Chapter 5: War, Shadows, and Power

Venator-Class Star Destroyer, High Orbit Over Ryloth

Another battle. Another victory.

The Separatists never stood a chance.

Standing on the bridge of my Venator, I watched as the last of the droid fleet burned in the upper atmosphere. The Republic had gained another key world, another strategic foothold in the war.

And yet, I was far from satisfied.

War should not be fought like this—slow, inefficient, bound by Jedi restraint.

I needed to change everything.

Captain Rex stepped up beside me, his helmet tucked under one arm.

"Another win, General," he said, voice laced with approval. "Troopers fought like hell, but we only lost a handful."

I nodded. A handful was still too many.

Rex studied me carefully. "Something on your mind?"

I exhaled. "We're fighting like we have time." I turned to face him. "But we don't. The longer this war drags on, the weaker the Republic becomes."

Rex frowned. "What are you thinking?"

I met his gaze. "I'm done playing by the Jedi's rules. If we're going to end this war, we need total dominance—crushing victories, rapid offensives, tactics that leave the enemy with no options."

Rex grinned. "I like the sound of that."

I smirked. Of course he did.

This war was about to change. Dramatically.

The Jedi Temple – Council Chambers

Mace Windu's face was a storm of disapproval.

"You want to change military doctrine?"

I met his gaze without flinching. "Yes."

The Council sat in tense silence, digesting my words.

Obi-Wan sighed. "Anakin, the Jedi are not conquerors."

I smiled. "No, Master. We are generals. And as generals, our goal should be efficiency. We've been dragging this war out, allowing the enemy to regroup, rearm, and bleed us slowly."

Plo Koon steepled his fingers. "You suggest… escalation?"

I nodded. "Rapid invasions. Preemptive strikes. Taking out leadership instead of fighting every battle like it's an endurance test."

Ki-Adi-Mundi frowned. "That is dangerously close to Sith thinking."

I scoffed. "Sith thinking? Tell me, Masters—if I ended this war in six months, would that be dark side tactics?"

Silence.

Yoda's ears twitched. "Victory at any cost, dangerous it is."

I exhaled. "Then let's stop talking about cost and start talking about results."

Obi-Wan rubbed his temple. "And what exactly do you propose?"

I smirked.

"Total war."

Coruscant – The Chancellor's Office

Palpatine listened with great interest as I laid out my plans.

The 501st and other elite Clone Legions would become the spearhead of a new war doctrine—one that prioritized overwhelming force, planetary invasions, and tactical assassinations of key Separatist leaders.

Palpatine's lips curled into a pleased smile.

"Ah, my boy," he said smoothly. "You are thinking like a true visionary."

I smirked. "I'm thinking like a winner."

The Sith Lord leaned forward. "And tell me, Anakin… how do the Jedi feel about this?"

I chuckled. "They're resisting. But they'll fall in line. They always do."

Palpatine's amusement deepened. "The Jedi Order… they will never truly understand power as you do."

I tilted my head. "Is that what you believe?"

He studied me. "Power is not a burden, my young friend. It is a gift. And you? You are its rightful wielder."

I smirked. Oh, I knew what he was doing. The subtle nudges, the carefully placed words. Trying to lure me to the dark side.

Too bad for him—I wasn't playing that game.

I would take my own path.

And I would win.

Dooku's Flagship – The Invisible Hand

Count Dooku stared at the latest battle reports, his expression unreadable.

"Skywalker… is evolving."

General Grievous loomed beside him, optics narrowing. "Then we should crush him before he becomes a true threat."

Dooku smirked. "Oh, Grievous… it is far too late for that."

The cyborg growled. "Then what do we do?"

Dooku's gaze darkened. "We adapt."

His eyes flickered toward the holoprojector, where Sidious' hooded form awaited.

"My Lord… I believe we have underestimated Anakin Skywalker."

A deep, raspy chuckle filled the chamber.

"Yes," Sidious mused. "We have."

Later That Night – Padmé's Apartment

Padmé's lips parted as I pressed her against the balcony railing, my hands firmly gripping her waist.

She gasped softly. "Anakin—"

I silenced her with a kiss, slow and dominating, claiming every breath she had left.

Her body melted into mine, her nightgown dangerously loose as my hands wandered.

When I pulled away, she was breathless.

"We shouldn't," she whispered.

I smirked. "Then tell me to stop."

She didn't.

Instead, she grabbed my collar and pulled me back in.

The galaxy could wait.

Tonight? She was mine.
