Chapter Five
Ping sat stiffly on the massive bed, her hands clenched into fists. She had lost her only weapon—the ridiculous silver spoon—but she still wasn't ready to let her guard down.
Ling, standing a few feet away, watched her in silence. His golden eyes flickered with something unreadable.
"You truly believe I eat people?" he asked, voice calm yet laced with amusement.
Ping swallowed hard. "Everyone says so… They say you killed your own parents. That you rule over a cursed kingdom. That anyone who enters Mora never returns."
Ling tilted his head slightly. "And yet, you still pointed a spoon at me."
She stiffened, realizing how foolish she must have looked. But she wasn't going to admit that.
Ling let out a small sigh. "You're my wife now, Ping. Whether you like it or not, you belong here."
Belong? The word sent a shiver down her spine.
Ling turned towards the door, pausing before he left. "I'll have food sent to your chambers. Eat. Rest. We'll talk tomorrow."
Ping didn't reply. She simply watched as he disappeared through the door, his long white hair swaying behind him.
The moment he was gone, she exhaled heavily.
Her nightmare had only just begun.
