Chapter 23 - Volume 1 Chapter -19- New foe

Everyone grabbed their belongings and began exploring the island, searching for a cemetery. They scoured every corner, but found nothing—only a single, worn-down building. The group stood in front of it, silent.

Without hesitation, Hollie stepped forward and kicked down the door, revealing a run-down interior. Belial chuckled at her boldness.

"She really doesn't hold back," he muttered with a smirk.

As everyone entered the building, a clear sliding glass door at the back immediately caught their attention. Hollie sprinted toward it.

"Hollie, wait! Something's not right!" Azire shouted.

But being Hollie, she didn't hear—or didn't care. She reached for the door handle—and the world shifted in an instant.

The entire building transformed into a sterile, glowing white box.

"Well, well, well… Look what we have here," a strange voice echoed through the space.

"Who are you?!" Azire demanded, but there was no response. The group tensed, scanning the unfamiliar surroundings.

Maya turned sharply to Hollie, voice full of anger.

"Why didn't you just listen to Azire?! We wouldn't be stuck in here if it weren't for you, you irrational brat!"

"Oh please," Hollie snapped back. "All you care about is making Azire like you. Newsflash—he doesn't!"

Their shouting escalated until Belial stepped between them, firm and commanding.

"Enough! Look around—we're clearly in danger. Now's not the time to fight."

Both Hollie and Maya quieted, guilt settling over them as they realized he was right.

"Suna!" Azire called.

"I'm here," she responded quickly, alert.

"See if you can sense any magic."

Before she could react, a man suddenly appeared before them. His attire resembled that of the Hollow Star group: a robe, a wide-brimmed hat, and long brown hair that flowed past his shoulders. He extended his hand—and thick smoke exploded across the room like wildfire.

Hollie's sword glowed, forming a protective barrier around her. At the same moment, Cocobeal materialized, shifting into a mask that snapped onto Azire's face.

"Thank you," Azire murmured.

With Suna closest to him, Azire grabbed her and ordered, "Cocobeal—give her one too!"

Another mask formed and latched onto Suna just before the smoke overwhelmed the space.

As the haze cleared, Maya and Belial lay unconscious on the ground.

The stranger tilted his head.

"Huh. More of you than I expected."

Hollie dashed to Azire and Suna, sword drawn and ready.

"Well," she said with a grin, "our turn."

She leapt into the air. Azire thrust his hand downward, water flooding across the floor.

"Now, Suna!" he shouted.

Suna raised her hand, forming a glowing magic circle, then infused the water with electricity. The whole floor sparked violently.

The man launched himself to the ceiling—and there, clawed to the beams, was Hollie waiting for him. He charged toward her with supernatural speed.

Azire and Suna took to the air, wings outstretched, careful not to touch the electrified ground.

"Hollie!" Azire called out. "We can only support you with magic! We can't stay up there like you can!"

Hollie nodded, understanding. This was her fight now.
