Chapter 3 - A Journey 1

Taking in the sight of the world around me, I feel a sense of pleasure. Not the kind where you, you know. More so, gratitude.

It is a hard to describe it, maybe its not meant to be explained. Just a feeling you want to last forever.

Sitting up, I feel my hand touch the grass and dirt I laid on.

What a lovely feeling.

Looking at my body, I notice my clothing changed too. Leather armor, a tethered blue cloak hanging from the back of my shoulders and a iron sword.

''This... uh.. feels weird.'' Maybe this is one of those isekai. My brother had been an avid fan of them, explaining their stories and sometimes watching a few episodes when he visited.

I hope he is doing well. The news of my death probably shook him. Rick, please name one of your children after me.

If I did get reincarnated, maybe I have a gift. Tapping a gloved finger on my chin, a two options came to me. Either I have a system, or I don't.

''Status!'' I call out, hoping a game like interface would appear. But, nothing. I don't have a system.

Deflating a bit, I remember Rick always telling me systems where the best thing to reincarnate with.

''Doesn't matter. I got a second chance, thats whats important.''

Standing up, I barely feel the iron sword weigh me down. It seems this body is strong. Doing some exercises, my new body doesn't feel any different.

''I'm a lucky girl.'' I then decide to test my sword skills.

Pulling out my sword from my left, something akin to an emotional connection starts building. 'Are you my new master?'

It talks? I ask myself, standing still in surprise. Is this my gift from the heavens?

'Are you my new master?' The sword says(?) again. Should I say yes? Probably, I did take a leap of faith with opening my eyes. Another wouldn't hurt.

After a bit of back and forth I ready myself. ''I am your new master!'' I declare to the sword.

'Very well.' I hear it say(?) in my mind before turning quiet.

Suddenly the connection between me and the sword changes, as if it is becoming part of me.

With the same randomness as the sword talking, a thought emerged in my mind. 'Head north to Orario!'

Orario? I think I know that name. I know it is from a anime Rick told me about, but.. argh. I don't remember. After a few minutes of rummaging through my mind, I came to a conclusion. I don't remember. Cursed you Rick, I will forget this.

''More importantly, I need to figure out where north is.''

Moving out from under the tree, I see the sun glowing brightly at the top of the sky. And after a bit of thinking, I decided to follow my gut and go in the opposite direction as the sun.

Maybe this world is different and I am heading south. But I don't care, as long as I reach Orario eventually, I am fine with that.

...

Walking through a forest with the light of the sun still shining through, I stop to listen to nature. The whistling of birds, animals running through the bushes and a small river flowing, its water splashing against a few rocks.

''This is beautiful.'' I mutter to myself, I noticed it before, but the voice of this body is soft and calming, even to myself. I wonder who was this person before I came?

After a few more moments of listening to the forest, I start walking towards the river. My thirst ever growing, but I didn't notice any issues with hunger.

Stepping through the foliage, a small river glistening in the few ray of sunlight greats me. I notice a few small animals like squirrels, rabbits and birds drinking for the river already.

Noticing me, they all run or fly off away to get to safety.

Kneeling down at the edge of the river, I take off the glove on my left and for a bowl with my hands.

Putting my hands into the river, I feel how cold it is, even with the heat around me.

Taking a sip of the cold river water, its coldness coursing through my body, I feel my thirst lessening.

Repeating it a few more times, my thirst finally quenched, I stand back up and notice a large boar looking at me from the other side of the river.

''Aren't you afraid of me?'' I ask it, hoping it talks like the sword. Which has been quiet ever since it assimilated with me.

*Grunt

*Grunt

''Seems not.'' Turning my head north, I stand up and continue my way.

*Squeak

I hear the boar squeak just in time for me to pull out my sword and block its charge.

Roaring, it tries to attack me again, but my body moved on its own. Slicing through its neck, with its head and body falling to the ground.

Seeing its decapitated head, the urge to vomit overcomes me before being replace with a dulling sensation. Another gift?

'Put it in your pouch!' A thought emerged in my mind. Maybe another gift? Last time I got a great sword for me to use.

Feeling the pouch under my belt emanating a desire of longing, I take it out and hold and start putting in the head of my first kill. To my surprise, the head fit inside and it didn't grow in size at all.

Putting the rest of the body inside, I continue my journey north.
