Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The New Unfettered

When Lind spoke, Axel and the others immediately showed interest and expressed their desire to go with him.

"Boss, you should bring Lyle and Wright along. The two brothers used to be shipwrights," Rex, who rarely spoke, suddenly suggested.

"Hahaha, that's a great idea!" Lind's eyes lit up when he heard Rex's words. While he trusted the craftsmanship of the shipbuilders, having two professionals from his crew accompanying him could only be beneficial.

"We can't leave the base unattended. So, Liana, Rex, you two, along with Lyle and Wright, will come with me in the afternoon," Lind decided after some thought. "Axel, Calvin, and Allison, you three will stay behind to manage the base. If anything happens, just contact me via Den Den Mushi."

After lunch, Lind and his group headed straight to the shipyard in the eastern part of Hachinosu.

The shipbuilders there had been recruited from all over the world by Rocks. While they might not match the level of craftsmanship in Water 7, their skills were still impressive. With hundreds of ships within the Rocks Pirates requiring construction, maintenance, and repairs, this shipyard was one of the most important shipbuilding hubs in the New World.

Of course, whether building a new ship or modifying an old one, everything cost money.

Even though Lind was a division captain, he couldn't transform the Unfettered into a massive warship like the Saber of Xebec or the Moby Dick without funds. And as a newcomer who had only been in the game for a few months, money was precisely what he lacked.

Left with no choice, Lind borrowed tens of millions of Berries from Whitebeard and Shiki to fund the modifications. At the very least, he needed Free to be a ship that regular crew members could operate and sail through the New World without relying solely on his telekinetic abilities.

Fortunately, when he first built Free, Lind followed the philosophy that "bigger is better." The ship's foundation was solid—it was a full 80 meters long, which was quite large for a wooden warship in this era.

Moreover, The Unfettered was made from the best hardwoods that Lind had personally selected, meaning it only needed structural modifications and basic facility upgrades to serve as his primary vessel in the early days of his journey.

When Lind and his group arrived at the shipyard, they were greeted by Master Yorl, the shipwright in charge, who had been waiting for them.

As one of the few division captains under Rocks, Lind's commission was highly valued by the shipyard. The Unfettered project was personally overseen by Yorl, the most skilled shipwright in the facility.

"Master Yorl, I appreciate your hard work," Lind greeted him warmly.

"Hahaha, it's my pleasure, Captain Lind! This afternoon, I'll personally introduce you to the modifications on the Unfettered," the towering three-meter-tall shipwright replied with a hearty laugh.

"Captain Lind, and esteemed guests, please follow me to take a look at the Unfettered! I must say, the materials you used for this ship are truly excellent. While they may not be as rare as the Treasure Tree Adam, they're still among the best types of wood available!"

"Where did you get them? Do you still have any left?" Yorl asked curiously as they walked toward the shipyard's interior.

"Hahaha, if you're interested, I can give you some seeds. I found these trees on a remote island," Lind replied enthusiastically. "All the mature trees were used to build Free, but if you'd like, you can try growing some yourself."

"Now that's an offer I can't refuse! Captain Lind, you've got yourself a deal—I'll give you a 20% discount on the modifications!" Yorl laughed heartily. Though he was a bit disappointed that the wood wasn't available in bulk, obtaining the seeds was still a great opportunity.

Even if he couldn't grow them successfully, at least he could try.

"We're here! Captain Lind, this is the new Unfettered!" Yorl announced proudly. "We've completed most of the structural modifications. Now, we just need to install the cannons and finalize the interior layout."

Standing before the newly enhanced Unfettered, Lind was thoroughly impressed.

The ship had been modified into a three-masted vessel with a streamlined hull that exuded both elegance and power. The massive roc figurehead at the bow looked especially formidable.

Even though the sails hadn't been raised yet, the ship's potential was already evident.

Lind had to admit—Yorl's technical skill and aesthetic sense were impeccable.

The Unfettered perfectly matched his vision of a warship. He could already picture himself at the helm, unfurling the sails, and sailing across the vast ocean.

After admiring the exterior, Yorl led them aboard for a more detailed tour.

"Captain Lind, the modified Unfettered is now 90 meters long and 25 meters wide. Including the masts, its total height is 45 meters," Yorl explained.

"As per your request, the ship has a three-story superstructure. The second and third floors contain the captain's quarters and crew accommodations, with over fifty rooms in total."

"The first floor is a multifunctional area, including a banquet hall, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and medical bay."

"It's fully equipped to support the daily life and needs of your entire crew."

"The deck has three levels: the upper deck is an entertainment and relaxation area, the middle deck is a training zone, and the lower deck is for storage."

Lind wasn't particularly knowledgeable about ship construction, so he left the technical details of the hull, masts, and weaponry to Yorl's expertise. His main concern was whether all the functional areas he had requested were in place.

From what he could see, Yorl had delivered everything he asked for.

"Hahaha! Thank you, Master Yorl. I'm very satisfied!" Lind said happily. "Liana, Rex, Lyle, Wright—what do you guys think? Any concerns?"

"Heh, Boss, this ship is absolutely perfect for me!" Rex grinned, nodding enthusiastically.

As a rough-and-tumble fighter, he had never experienced such a well-equipped and well-designed warship before.

"No complaints here, Boss. But… can I have the cabin next to the captain's quarters?" Allison chimed in, making Lind rub his forehead in exasperation.

"This is top-tier craftsmanship, Master Yorl! No doubt one of the finest ship designs on the seas!" Lyle and Wright, the shipwrights in the group, were full of admiration.

"Master Yorl, would it be possible to add a fourth level to the superstructure? I'd like the top floor to be the captain's quarters, while the second and third floors would house the officers and crew," Lind inquired.

"How long would that take to complete?"

Although Lind wasn't necessarily opposed to Allison staying near his cabin, he figured that separating the captain's quarters onto a private floor would help maintain order within the crew.

"Rest assured, Captain Lind! Our shipyard has devoted a considerable amount of manpower to Unfettered," Yorl reassured him.

"Adding a fourth level isn't difficult. In twenty days, you can come pick up your ship!"

"Hahaha, that's fantastic! Drinks are on me next time!" Lind laughed.
