[Quest Complete: Kill the future Exalted Theo Maldres]
[Computing rewards now...]
[Quantum Energy increased by 15. Qi increased by 15]
Adam marveled at this first reward as the next one chimed in his face. As far as he knew, it was impossible to increase your Qi. He knew the system had said he could, but he never really believed that.
However, blatant proof was staring right at him. For most, their Qi was basically a limiter of potential. The most that they could do was train the 5 categories to their max within that potential. This evidently wasn't the case for Adam though.
Excited, he eagerly waited for his next reward.

[Generating new quest...]
'New quest? Already!' Adam thought, wondering if the system was going to turn him into a full time murderer.
When he was killing the scum of the earth, not only was it fine but it was enjoyable. But how many people could really be considered scum?
Adam's eyebrows twitched as he waited for the system's message, his heart pounding in his chest.

"Stat Points?" Adam murmured aloud as he looked over the new quest. Although it was sure to be a grueling—and for some reason familiar—workout, it definitely beat killing people left and right.
As the rewards were obtained Adam felt a rush of energy surge into him, increasing his strength. Flexing his now slightly more toned muscles, he realized that the system actually worked.
Somehow, it had even boosted the 5 aspects of Qi, which usually could only be done via training and meditating.
Additionally, his Qi had actually increased as promised. Furthermore, if he wanted he could use Quantum Cores to further boost his Qi.
Or, of course, he could choose to wait and boost his artifact. The difference was simple yet stark.
When facing other heroes, they would be unable to effectively combat his artifact. Therefore, if he leveled it up far which, then even a high tier Exalted's nigh indomitable constitution would crumble instantly. However, Adam himself also wouldn't have much defense against Qi.
Basically, every interaction he had would boil down to kill first, ask questions later. As far as he understood, anyway.
Since he wasn't entirely sure about how to use the Quantum Cores, Adam set those aside in his mind for now. Then he went to the locked basement door, unlocked it, and left.
He was sure the girls would find their way out, and he didn't want them to see him for 2 simple reasons: the system might view them as evidence, or one of them could tell law enforcement about him.
Although he could easily take down a task force due to having Qi, he really wasn't keen on killing innocent cops doing their job.
...
As he approached the woods, Adam still couldn't believe how good the system was at covering his tracks, rendering his own efforts meaningless.
His useless plastic bag filled with clothes laid at the base of a tree. Beside it was a pitcher of water he had prepared to wash off any apparent blood.
It was a very rudimentary method of cleaning up. However, it wasn't like he had too much experience of being a murderer. Not yet, anyway.
Adam sighed, wrinkling the bag as he gripped it with an iron fist. Inside was a Vendor—a small, rectangular box fitted with a tracking device, identity checker, and any amount of credit that was transferred to it.
Basically, because he was too young to have a bank account connected to his hand, this was the only form of money kids like him had.
With his Vendor in hand, Adam made way to the local laundromat, so that when his parents asked him what he was doing he could show them his cleaned clothes and a snack.
...
When Adam walked through the door, he had half expected the news to be on and talking about a 'missing' Theo. However, his mom was simply watching some soap opera.
Adam offered a quick hello and then walked up to his room. Noticing that he was wearing a suit and had actually cleaned some clothes— even if out was only one pair— his mom murmured, "Hmm. Maybe he's finally growing up."
A soft smile crept on her face as she returned to the world of her show.
When Adam walked into his room, he quickly tossed the clothes on his bed and then grabbed his phone from his desk. Turning it on, he checked every news source he could find— which was pretty much just social media anymore.
However, there wasn't even a single post about the dead man.
Adam was perplexed for a second before realizing that it did make sense.
After all, the man had just been killed. Not only that, but to outsiders it would seem like a simple disappearance. Thousands of people disappeared every year, so the only interesting part about Theo's was the fact he was rich. Of course, maybe one of the girls would eventually talk about his disappearance to the cops, though Adam doubted it.
"Hey, tomorrow is your first day back to school. Do you need help with anything?" His father called from the bottom of the steps.
'School?' Adam thought, realizing he had forgotten all about it. Looking down at his hand, he thought about his family and Faye. About the person he might become in order to protect them.
He sighed as he hoped they would understand when they inevitably found out.
