Everyone in the hall gazed at him with their faces filled with joy and anticipation. Harold was beaming.
"Yes, this is the homunculus that I was talking about. His potential is as high as warmonger's."
All of the people started to gather around and introduce themselves to Edoran.
'They are treating me like I am a celebrity.'
Edoran felt a smile creep up his face. He felt both happy and embarrassed at the same time.
"Now, let's move on to the main part of the event." Aria clapped her hands to bring everyone's attention.
Harold cleared his throat.
"Ahem. I, Harold Faulkner, am proud to announce the launch of Star Wraith Industries, a company created to manage savages more effectively to date."
"Our parent company, Nova Star Industries is the leading company in hunting savages in our country. Together, we will push the boundaries of what humanity has achieved and lead us to a better life."
Everyone clapped. Harold took a knife and cut the cake in front of him shaped like a laboratory.
Music started and everyone was either eating or dancing.
Edoran stood in a corner, perturbed by the party. Aria came and stood next to him.
"Harold is a good boy. I hope you support him properly. If you make him get hurt somehow, I will hunt you down."
Edoran took a step away from her upon hearing that. He looked at Harold on the stage dancing with a young woman.
He helped himself to some cake and juice. His body had already completely recovered from the fight.
After the party, Harold asked a maid to arrange an unused room for Edoran.
"We will be leaving for the city capital tomorrow where our company headquarters will be located."
Edoran had a dreamless and quiet night of sleep.
The next day, they left for the HQ in Greenglow's capital city, Verdantia.
It was as green as the outskirts but the technology and modernity of the city amazed Edoran.
A massive green building stood proudly with the letters, Nova Star Corps emblazoned on the top.
They drove past it towards a much smaller three-storey building painted in a dull grey.
"Don't worry, the place is much better than how it looks."
Jake flashed his teeth while saying that. Harold parked the vehicle and they entered the building. No one was inside yet.
They got onto the elevator inside and reached the basement floor.
"Both of you are too weak to fight any savages yet but your cores need to be activated."
Each core had to be activated by attunement or else they will be unstable and lose their power if used often.
"That is why I have bought some savages alive, fresh off Nova Star ."
Harold showed them cages with light blue transparent walls.
Abominations waited inside ready to tear apart anything organic or inorganic.
"Jake, you go first. You have been training for two weeks already. Show some spirit and kill one."
Jake stepped forward and gulped. Even though he was not directly fighting it and was in a safe environment, fear crept into him seeing the savages.
He saw a creature with black and red flesh in patches. It had no hair and had a dog's face. It had six arms with black claws on its fingers.
A creepy grin was affixed on its face as it clawed at its cage walls. A metal collar was around its neck.
It was of the Chimeraborn class. It was called a dog wraith. Rancid creatures are born when two or more organisms turn into a savage at the same time nearby.
Jake took a saber and held it up high. Its orange blade blazed with radiant glory. Harold opened the cage for the creature to come out.
As it crawled out of the cage similar to a cockroach with crazed glee but whimpered and screamed as the collar shocked it.
It could not leave the cage. It tried to pry it off its neck but couldn't break the strong vice of the collar.
Jake yelled and charged at the dog wraith plunging the long blade into its neck. It gave an unholy scream and tried to bite down on Jake's back.
Jake fell back barely missing its maw.
Its focus shifted to the blade on its neck when Jake stealthily moved behind it and tugged at the saber pulling it down and the dog wraith split into two cleanly.
Its core burned brightly one last time as its energy entered the nearby core that belonged to Jake. His red core glowed brightly as he smiled at his victory.
This meant that it was Edoran's turn now. He was not scared in the slightest.
He tied his long white hair into a ponytail and was about to choose a savage next to the dog wraith which was already terrified seeing the condition of the former.
Lights went out in the basement. No one could see anything.
Harold whipped out a flashlight as the emergency power came back on when he saw that the dog wraith's cage had a hole.
It had been cut through cleanly.
Harold's eyes scrambled around the room trying to find what had escaped.
The building suddenly shuddered as the lights flickered again.
Emergency city sirens blared throughout the building.
"ATTENTION! ATTENTION! BLAZING WHALE, A TIER-3 SAVAGE, IS ATTACKING THE CITY. THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY MUST NOT LEAVE THEIR HOMES AND ARE TO AVOID LOOKING INTO ITS EYES."
"Impossible, a greater savage was not detected before it started attacking!" Harold said while panicking a bit.
A small screech came into the room. The three looked at the source of the noise.
A pink bunny sat in the middle of the room with its red eyes glaring at Edoran.
"Don't move. That thing is a tier-2 savage, the Gorehop. It will slice you up if you make any sudden movements.
The Gorehop began making its way towards Edoran casually and he gulped.
'Shit, why me?'
The building shuddered again and tilted a little as a cage slipped and came between the rabbit and Edoran.
It opened its mouth wider than imaginable and 4 long tendrils lashed out of its mouth covered in metallic teeth like daggers.
The cage was cut along with the savage easily. The rabbit started gobbling the savage corpse.
"Jake. Use the ability you got from the dog wraith and get us the hell out of here!"
Whenever a savage was killed, its energy was transferred to the nearby core. This energy can grant a one-time use ability.
'I don't have enough core output to save both of them and stop the gorehop at the same time.'
Jake gritted his teeth and prepared the ability.
The gorehop had finished eating the savage and walked towards Edoran with blood dripping down its mouth.
A punch sent the gorehop flying and Edoran saw Jake standing there well over 7 feet.
Patches of flesh similar to the dog wraith's covered his skin while Harold was held under one of his six arms. He lifted Edoran by his shirt and jumped to the gate leading outside the basement.
The rabbit was in a frenzy and charged at Jake.
He held the four tendrils in his hands but he was no match for the rabbit as his body was soon riddled with scratches and lacerations.
Harold took a cannon next to the gate and aimed it at the rabbit. He shot an energy blast which the gorehop barely avoided while Jake was holding it.
Jake took this opportunity as he pulled one of the tendrils out. Dark red blood gushed through the room as the rabbit screamed.
Harold aimed another shot at the rabbit but another tendril quickly swatted the cannon away to Edoran's direction.
Jake tried to pull another tendril but his ability's effect already finished as he had turned back.
'Fuck.'
The rabbit's tendril cut Jake's arm and another swung to chop his head off when the tendril just dropped down motionlessly.
The rabbit's head was gone, replaced by a hole that Edoran had made using the cannon.
Jake laughed and fell unconscious from the blood loss. Harold put one of Jack's arms over his shoulder and carried him while Edoran looked around for safety.
"Nice work, Edoran. Let's head up. One of the cages has had an anomaly. This is not normal. Someone had to have caused this."
As they left, they saw a scene of flames outside the building.
"I will go get help. You stay here and tend to Jake." Edoran shouted over the noises outside."
"No. It is too dangerous. Let us just wait here till the blazing whale is dealt with."
"What! You want Jake to bleed to death. God knows how long it is going to take for them to finish that thing off."
Harold frowned and was about to retort but just sighed.
"Be careful. Do not look at the whale directly. Run fast to the nearest med bay. I have a first aid kit for Jake."
Edoran grinned and left the building.
