Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 ⭃ Before School Starts

In the days that followed, Kyle spent his time productively in his room, experimenting with various spells.

Despite coming from a wizarding family, he'd had few chances to use magic before starting school — extremely few, in fact.

His parents, Chris and Diana, treated their wands as extensions of themselves, so they couldn't simply let Kyle play with them. He only got to practice during Christmas and his birthday each year.

Kyle understood these limitations and stuck to simple spells like Lumos or Alohomora (Unlocking Charm) that wouldn't harm the wands even if cast incorrectly.

Then there was the matter of wand compatibility.

Though he was Chris and Diana's son, their wands clearly rejected Kyle — the feeling was unmistakable.

His mother's wand was particularly resistant, becoming little more than an ordinary stick in his hands, refusing to respond to any spell he attempted.

As a result, Kyle focused mainly on Quidditch, herbology, and magical creatures, rarely getting to practice actual spellwork.

Now, after eleven long years of waiting, he finally had his own wand and was determined to make the most of it.

Chris supported his enthusiasm, occasionally offering guidance and clearly enjoying the role of teacher. Soon, Kyle's room was alive with the flicker of various spells.

The first few days passed smoothly, as Kyle stuck to basic spells that wouldn't affect others.

But as he mastered more spells and grew bolder, problems began to emerge.

In the living room, Chris was drinking tea when the teacup across from him suddenly lifted off the table and began floating leisurely upstairs.

He seemed quite used to this occurrence, calmly pressing the teacup back onto the table and tapping it lightly with his wand.

After doing this, he called out, "Kyle, when casting the Summoning Charm (Accio), you must clearly visualize your target. And perhaps start with quills or parchment — at least those won't break if they fall."

"Yes, Dad."

His son responded, but Chris doubted he'd actually listened.

After all, similar incidents had happened several times today, and he'd cast more Reparo (Mending Charm) in one day than he had in the past ten years combined. He'd even been forced to place Anti-Summoning Charms on every breakable item in the house.

Whoosh—

Just as he was thinking this, a piece of bread zoomed over his head and stuck to the ceiling with a splat.

"..."

He had to admit, judging by the results, Kyle had made significant progress — at least this Summoning Charm was faster than the last one.

"Sigh!" Chris sighed, calmly waving his wand to send the bread back to the kitchen while inwardly marveling at his beautiful wife's wisdom and foresight.

Thanks to her confiscating Kyle's cauldron on the first day, the house remained somewhat intact.

Eleven-year-old wizards were indeed notorious nuisances — it was true for the Weasleys next door, and his family was no exception.

Fortunately, these days would soon be over — Hogwarts started tomorrow.

Now that was good news!

Chris lifted his tea and took a contented sip.

Evening came quickly.

Diana hadn't returned due to an assignment.

Chris, hopeless at cooking, gratefully accepted Molly's invitation and brought Kyle and some prepared ingredients to The Burrow for dinner.

Mrs. Weasley predictably disapproved of him bringing ingredients, considering it a slight against their friendship, and gave him quite a lecture.

Chris simply smiled, nodded, and tossed the ingredients into the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Kyle had already settled in comfortably with the Weasley children.

This was a familiar scene for him. Without a house-elf at home, whenever Diana was away on assignments, father and son would join the Weasleys for meals.

These little squabbles over brought ingredients had become part of their routine.

In a nearby clearing, Kyle joined the Weasleys in de-gnoming the garden.

Though they called it de-gnoming, it was more of a game.

One person would grab a gnome by its legs and toss it upward, while another would swing at it with a bat like a Bludger — whoever sent their gnome flying the farthest won a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.

{T/N: Bludger is the medium-sized ball in a Quidditch game.}

Chris had initially opposed this game, believing they should simply throw the gnomes out without the batting practice.

That changed when the gnomes destroyed his carefully cultivated Dittany — a year's work gone in an instant. After that, he never objected to Kyle's participation.

He even gifted his son a finely crafted bat for Christmas, complete with a Wimbourne Wasps Beater's signature. The bat had excellent feel and feedback, helping Kyle claim the championship five times running.

Today was no exception.

"This isn't fair." Ron glanced from Kyle's signed bat to the crude stick in his own hands, his expression sour, "The equipment gap is too big!"

"Equipment is secondary — what matters is having a winning mindset. I don't win because I have better gear, I win because I want it more than you do." Kyle said calmly, picking out a red bean and tossing it to Ron, "Besides, before you complain about equipment, you should at least try to beat Ginny — her bat is much smaller than yours."

Among the five players, Ron was in last place, with even Ginny's distance surpassing his by several meters.

Kyle's words made Ron's face flush bright red — losing to his sister was indeed embarrassing.

His attention quickly shifted to the Every Flavor Bean Kyle had tossed him.

It was bright red, beautiful, and the taste... raspberry!

As always, Kyle's beans were never disappointing.

Ron squinted with pleasure at the sweet taste, feeling a twinge of envy at his knack for picking out the best flavors.

His own luck was terrible — he usually got liver or spinach, and once even drew the dreaded dragon dung flavor. The memory of that rotten, putrid taste still made his stomach turn.
