As the elevator doors opened, a female voice echoed through the corridor.
"My, oh my… it seems I didn't need to intervene after all. March, Dan Heng you've both been through quite a lot."
"Himeko!" March called out with a tired laugh. "You have no idea what we've been through."
Himeko chuckled at her response, then turned her attention to another familiar face.
"Are you alright, Arlan? Asta's been worried sick."
"I'm fine," Arlan replied with a nod. "Just need a quick patch-up. Thanks for asking. I'll report to Lead Researcher Asta right away. Bye."
As Arlan walked off, Himeko turned toward the newcomers with a warm smile.
"Hey, nice to meet you. I'm Himeko, navigator of the Astral Express."
The silver-haired girl looked her in the eyes, her tone flat. "Stelle." She gave a simple nod.
Himeko let out a soft laugh and turned to the imposing figure beside her.
"And you are?"
"I am Sepharos of the Ultramarines."
Himeko blinked, but kept her composure, nodding. "Got it."
She glanced at March, then back at the pair. "Has March been any trouble?"
"Yes," Stelle replied instantly.
Sepharos said nothing he just stood there, arms folded, completely still.
The group made their way to the command center, where Asta was busy directing the staff, her calm voice cutting through the tension as she coordinated the response to the earlier attack.
March stepped forward. "We're back!"
Dan Heng followed. "What's the station's status?"
"It's under control for now," Asta replied, eyes scanning her monitors. "But the researchers are still in distress after the Legion's sudden assault."
While the others moved to speak with the shaken researchers, Sepharos approached Asta.
"How did I get here?"
"Madam Herta picked you up," Asta replied. "Said your armor caught her eye. She was bored at the Time."
"And that room I woke up in?"
"You were trapped in a block of ice. Even Madam Herta couldn't melt or break it, so… she just left you there."
Sepharos stood silently for a moment before stepping away and settling into a corner. He processed the information, analyzing everything he had seen. Then he thought about the Doomsday Beast.
His conclusion?He'd just wing it.
Suddenly, alarms blared across the station.
"The Doomsday Beast is breaching the barrier!" someone shouted.
Asta's voice turned urgent. "Himeko, you need to take the Express and leave now."
The group hesitated.
"Wait, we can't just run!" March protested.
"We don't have a choice," Himeko said firmly. "We need to regroup. We'll only get in the way here."
They gathered quickly. Stelle and Sepharos were ushered along with the rest.
Dan Heng glanced at Himeko. "Are they really that important?"
"They might be the ones who can turn the tide," Himeko answered, her eyes steady. "Or I could be wrong… but I don't think I am."
Dan Heng gave a slight shrug. "If you say so."
"We need to head to the Supply Zone," Himeko said. "It's the quickest route to the nearest railway platform. We'll meet up with Welt there."
"Mr. Yang?!" March exclaimed. "He's here too? I thought he stayed on the Express!"
Dan Heng explained, "The Express always tracks our movements. If something went wrong, Mr. Yang would know."
They moved out quickly, making their way to the railway platform. As they approached the tracks, March ran ahead to scout.
"Wait! March!!" Dan Heng called after her.
March turned to look back just in time to see a massive shadow swoop down behind her. The Doomsday Beast roared, descending fast.
She raised her bow, aiming without hesitation. "Get down here."
The creature landed with a deafening crash, earth trembling beneath it.
The group readied their weapons.
Sepharos smirked as he stepped forward, drawing his blade.
"This should be interesting."
As the Doomsday Beast crashed down, the shockwave rippled through the platform. Dust and debris flew into the air, forcing the group to brace themselves.
Sepharos stepped forward, placing himself between the creature and the others. He drew his chainsword with a low hum and his Shield and turned his head slightly, speaking with sharp authority.
"March, Himeko stay behind us. Provide ranged cover. Focus fire when it's exposed."
March blinked. "Wait, are you giving orders now?"
"You want to win, don't you?" Sepharos said without looking back.
She grumbled, then notched an arrow. "Fine. But I'm not just sitting back!"
Sepharos pointed ahead with his sword. "Dan Heng, Stelle you're with me. We hit it head-on. Keep pressure, don't let it focus on any one of us."
Dan Heng nodded silently, spear already in hand.
Stelle props her bat on her shoulder, stepped forward, and simply said, "Let's do this."
The Doomsday Beast roared, shaking the metal beneath their feet. Its eyes locked onto them, glowing with malice.
"Now!" Sepharos shouted.
The trio charged.
Dan Heng dashed to the left in a blur, his spear slicing across one of the beast's limbs. Stelle came from the right, her bat glowing as she struck with strength and precision.
Sepharos went straight down the middle unyielding, relentless. His chainsword revved to life as it carved into the beast's hardened hide, sending sparks flying.
From the back, March loosed a barrage of arrows, freezing the ground beneath the creature's limbs, slowing its movements. Himeko stood beside her, unleashing bursts of fire that kept the Beast from fully regenerating.
The Doomsday Beast swung one massive claw at Sepharos, who blocked it with his Shield. He skidded back, boots grinding against the platform, but didn't fall.
"Keep moving!" he shouted. "Don't let it corner you!"
Dan Heng blinked behind the creature in a blur of motion, driving his spear into its left arm. Stelle followed up, landing a powerful strike to its core as it roared in pain.
The Beast reared back, then slammed both its arms into the ground, sending a shockwave outward.
"Brace!" Sepharos called.
He stood his ground, ice and flame swirling past him as March and Himeko attacked from the rear.
As the dust settled, the Beast's head lifted again, a glow building in its mouth.
"It's charging an attack!" Himeko shouted, her eyes wide with panic. "March! watch out!!"
The Doomsday Beast roared, releasing a blinding beam of destructive energy straight toward March.
Time seemed to slow.
March froze, eyes wide until a towering blue-and-gold figure stepped in front of her.
BOOM!
Sepharos raised his massive shield just in time, the energy crashing into it with immense force. The platform beneath his feet cracked as he was pushed back, gritting his teeth behind his helmet. The sheer pressure was overwhelming, but he held firm.
"Stay behind me!" he growled through clenched teeth.
The beam didn't let up.
With his free arm, Sepharos swung his boltgun from his back, bracing it against his side. He aimed straight at the Beast's head.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Explosive bolts tore through the air, slamming into the Doomsday Beast's face. The recoil echoed like thunder.
The creature faltered, roaring in pain as the blast weakened.
The beam stopped.
Sepharos lowered his shield and holstered the boltgun in one fluid motion.
Then, with fire in his eyes and fury in his soul, he roared, "For the Emperor!"
He broke into a sprint an unstoppable juggernaut his chainsword revving to life in one hand, and his energy blade crackling with power in the other.
With a single leap, he launched himself toward the Doomsday Beast. The monster reared up, but it was too slow.
Sepharos landed on its torso, both blades slashing deep into its metal armor.
He ripped and tore, piece by piece, unleashing a storm of fury.
Metal shrieked. Metals tore.
The Doomsday Beast flailed, howling in pain, but Sepharos clung on like a vengeful spirit of war.
"YOU WILL FALL!"
The chainsword tore through the creature's core on its chest, while the energy blade carved upward, bursting with light. Black ichor/oils splattered across the platform as the beast staggered back.
Then Stelle and Dan Heng struck in unison.
Dan Heng launched a piercing strike to its left arm while Stelle swung her bat through its right arm.
With a final scream, the Doomsday Beast collapsed, trembling... then fell silent.
A gust of wind blew through the wreckage.
Sepharos stood atop the defeated beast, his armor scorched, one knee down, both swords buried in its chest. He looked up, voice calm.
"Target eliminated."
March stood there, speechless. Then grinned.
"Okay… that was awesome."
