Chapter 22 - The Light in His Eyes

She was happy.

Asia reflected on how happy she was with her life since meeting Naruto, and now living with him. She compared the happiness she felt when she was a saint of the church, to the happiness she felt as just a woman who lived with Naruto, and she couldn't say that she was less happy. She still had God, and she still faithfully prayed every night and every morning. Yet, her life seemed more fulfilled since Naruto became a part of her life.

She had always been surrounded by smiles and praise.

Only Naruto smiled for her, not for her abilities as Saint, but because he was genuinely happy to spend time with her. That alone might be where her happiness came from.

He was different.

The more she learned about him, the deeper his mystery seemed to go. At first he seemed to be a person who was solely focused on creating potions and monsters because they seemed fun to her, but that wasn't something that could inspire such a great passion in people. The light in his eyes was the light of a man who had such a strong goal that they fueled his passion, and the strength of that goal shined as brightly as the sun to her.

She did not know his goal, because while he loved making money, he didn't seem to care about what he spent that money on either. He was just as happy with money as he was without money, so that could not be his driving force.

'He stays up later than I do every night, I don't think I've ever seen him sleep in a bed... he always falls asleep while working on something.' Asia opened her eyes and looked up at the window, seeing the full moon peeking out at her. Even laying in bed, it's gentle light bathed her room with it's glow and allowed her to see things.

Asia, saw a faint glow and some movement out of the corner of her eye.

One of Naruto's experiments might be running around the apartment, and the faint glow the light gave off as something with golden hair passed by her door made her look towards the door. Just as the figure passed by her door.

Sly looked up from the floor at the door and whimpered a little.

"Naruto?" Asia asked, and she looked towards the alarm clock, and saw that it was 3 in the morning. She must have woken up on her own, and just not paid attention to when she fell asleep. Naruto was almost never awake at this hour, he would have usually fallen asleep on the couch by now. "I'll go tell him to go to sleep." Asia pat Sly on the head as she got out of her bed, and she wrapped a blanket around herself.

It was kind of cold tonight, despite it being around Spring.

She left the bedroom, and she saw the blond hair go into the living room. She tilted her head when she got a brief glimpse of the figure, and she noted that wasn't the same musclular build that Naruto had, more petite. She had to wonder if Naruto changed his body for the sake of an experient. She went towards the living room, and she saw that Naruto was sleeping on the floor in a sitting position, his head in his arms as he used the coffee table to elevate himself.

He had his notes all around him.

"Na-"

Asia stopped when she felt a cool breeze behind her, pass through her, as a warm chill went down her spine. For a brief second her vision was filled with nothing but red, until she took a step back and saw a pale woman walking towards Naruto. She could see through the woman slightly, and the woman just sat down next to Naruto on the ground. She looked at Naruto with a proud smile, and she imitated him and put her head in her arms, and pretended to rest her head on the coffee table, but her arms phased through the table just slightly.

She saw the blond figure looking towards her.

He had a finger in front of his lips, and she noticed that she could see through his body as well. His lips moved, but he made no sound at all. He walked over towards the couch, and he sat down next to the woman after he tried and failed to lift a blanket off the couch.

They looked like Naruto.

He put his arms around the woman, who just seemed to take comfort in his arms around her. Their glow started to get more dim.

"Ah..." Asia walked over to the couch and she grabbed the blanket that the man couldn't grab, and she sat down on Naruto's other side. She leaned up against him and wrapped the two of them in the blanket.

I've made progress!

I've made a humanoid monster that is stable from scratch, something I've never done before. It has a soul, so it can't be used for my goal.

I've almost figured out all the secrets of my DNA, but for some reason, my DNA is a little different than their DNA.

I know every measurement of their bodies, I've unlocked all the secrets of their bodies, but for some reason my own DNA can't be used to recreate them. I still need to find a way to recreate their DNA from scratch. I'm a step closer, but I still used my DNA and Rias' to make Sair. I need to be able to make a body from scratch without DNA.

*Sketch of a Woman's Body*

*Sketch of a Man's Body*

I can still draw them from memory, from the pictures I've seen, I will never forget what they look like. I don't know what I'm missing though.

Ever monster I make that has a humanoid form, brings me a step closer to being able to talk to them, to see them alive.

Why is my DNA different?

With each experiment, I only have more and more questions for them about how I was born, how they died. The more I learn, the less I realize I knew to begin with. Was I even their son, or just some experient they created and that's way my DNA is different than their DNA is?

I want to see them, even if it is only for a minute, and look them in the eye. For that, I need to remind myself with every experiment I do, and every monster I make, that I am getting one step closer to them. Slimes and Tentacles, the creatures that have the ultimate compatibility with the human form, able to perfectly recreate human DNA inside of them and use it to reproduce with humanity, I still haven't unlocked all the secrets these creatures have, but when I do, I know that I will have taken a giant leap towards getting you back.

I don't even know where they are buried, if only I knew and could get their ashes or bones, then I could recreate their bodies. I have nothing to work with but a few pictures, so it will have to do. There were no graves for my parents in Vatican city either, one of the places that father studied, but I know my mother studied monsters in Kuoh.

I need to perfect the Anti-Magic potion, so I can create a body with no soul inside of it, only then will I be able to create bodies that my parent's souls can use as vessels. Magic and the Soul are connected, so if I learn the secrets of magic, I will learn the secrets of the soul as well. For that, I need to study the one clan of demons who have the special ability to be skilled in magical control. Once I have all the data I can possibly gather on Rias Gremory, I will be yet another step closer.

The closer I get to reviving them, the further away the goal seems to get.

I need to know the answer, if I only get one question, then I need to know it for certain. I will not forget what my goal is.

I need to know if they loved me.

Asia looked at the latest entry in Naruto's notebook, his personal notebook that was filled with more notes than any of his other books. She looked towards the two ghostly figures on Naruto's other side with growing shock in her green eyes. They grew more wide when she realized that she was looking at genuine ghosts that were haunting the living.

The woman started to fade away first, tears in her eyes as she gave a wordless cry.

The man looked at Asia, and he spoke words she could not hear. His eyes were filled with the same tears as the woman's eyes were, but as he followed after her, he placed his finger back up to his lips, telling her to be silent.

-The Morning-

"I'm... in bed?" Asia asked when she first woke up, remembering going to sleep next to Naruto in the living room. She looked at herself as she sat up, and she saw that she had the blanket from the couch on her as well as her own.

She quickly got up and rushed towards the living room.

There was Naruto with a wild grin on his face.

"Morning, have a bad dream last night? I feel more rested and ready to work than ever. I've almost finished programming Sair's brain, and then I'm going to unleash him on Rias. After that, I'll see what I can't collect from her. Rias has some pretty awesome stuff I can work with, ooooooh the monsters I can create using her." Naruto grinned a pure hearted grin.

This was it.

This was how Naruto's heart was so pure, despite the fact he created such perverted monsters. After last night, Asia could understand why Naruto seemed to never lose the purity in his eyes. The glimmer of love in them, and his passion for his projects. He truly was fueled by more than just a perverted desire.

Naruto was a boy who didn't even know if his parent's love him.

He was driven by a desire for love.
