Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: How Liv Met Marvin

Before Liv officially joined St. George Higher Secondary School, she traveled there with her mother to take the entrance exam. Her favorite cousin, Blu, was also set to be her batchmate, and the two were filled with excitement at the thought of meeting new people and starting a fresh chapter in their lives.

Fate, however, had its own plans. The entrance exam day arrived on a gloomy, rainy February morning. It felt almost symbolic, as if the universe itself was hinting at the storm to come. But despite the heavy rain, Liv and Blu arrived at the school gate by autorickshaw. Blu stepped out first, opening her umbrella, and as Liv followed, raindrops still managed to soak them even under its cover.

Liv was dressed in a camouflage jacket, black jeans, and a pair of sleek black Jordans. In her middle school years, she had been innocently arrogant—blunt yet kind-hearted, never one to gossip or shift blame. She lacked common sense in many ways, yet her purity was undeniable. That day, as she stepped onto the unfamiliar campus, she felt countless eyes on her. In a small town where everyone knew each other, her face was a new sight—her striking features, pale skin, and long, flowing hair immediately set her apart. Even during the exam, she could feel the stares of curiosity and intrigue from those around her.

Little did she know that on that very day, a pair of eyes belonging to Marvin had found her—and they wouldn't look away.

When the first day of school arrived, Liv was excited and confident. She searched for her section, speaking English as she asked around, only to be met with laughter. It was the first sign that she was different. As months passed, her presence in the school only fueled jealousy among the girls. Rumors about her spread like wildfire—dating scandals, false accusations, outrageous lies. People fabricated stories about her, things she would never do in her lifetime, let alone five lifetimes.

Even before she started dating Marvin, the rumors swirled around her. And after she became his girlfriend, they only worsened. Marvin was a boy who lived for basketball, his friends, Liv, and his family—nothing else concerned him. He never realized how much Liv suffered in that unfamiliar town, a place where she was merely a guest. The bullying extended beyond school walls, creeping into the hostel where she lived. Her own hostel mates would spread gossip about her to the day scholars, twisting her words and actions. The isolation, the lies, the constant whispers—Liv, only fifteen at the time, could barely endure it. The weight of it all crushed her, manifesting in nightmares and sleep paralysis.

Few saw the truth of her struggles, but no one spoke up for her. At times, she wondered if it was all karma, punishment for the ruthless way she had dealt with bullies in middle school. "Maybe I deserve all of this," she thought.

She had a loyal boyfriend, yet she was never truly happy. Marvin, unaware of the depths of her suffering, could only protect her from what he saw—but he never saw enough. And when he finally did, what power did a boy have against relentless rumors?

Liv endured that personal hell for three years before she and Marvin transferred to a city school for their 12th grade. The change was a relief, a chance to breathe again.

After successfully completing their final year of high school, fate led them to the Elite University—a place that would alter the course of their lives forever. A place where Liv would undergo immense change. A place where she would meet Black Snowman.
