Chapter 7 - Ying and yang

The following months saw Tian Chen delving deeper into the intricacies of the Omniversal Dao under Lia's patient guidance. She introduced him to the fundamental concepts of Yin and Yang, the opposing yet complementary forces that governed all aspects of existence. Lia explained how his Omniversal Dao allowed him to not only understand but also to harmonize and manipulate these forces in ways that were unique to his inherent talent.

One serene afternoon, they stood by the small waterfall that cascaded into the valley's stream. The sunlight dappled through the leaves of the Shenmu, creating an ethereal glow around them. Ling Hua, now a curious eight-year-old, sat on a moss-covered rock nearby, intently watching the flow of water. Baihu lay stretched out at the base of the waterfall, the rhythmic rush of water seeming to soothe him.

"Today, Tian Chen," Lia began, her gaze fixed on the flowing water, "we will explore the application of Yin and Yang within your combat techniques. Observe the water. It is yielding, yet it can carve through rock over time – the embodiment of Yin." She then gestured towards the sun, high in the sky. "And the sun, with its fierce heat and radiant energy, represents Yang."

Tian Chen focused his senses, contemplating the contrasting yet interconnected nature of water and sun. He could feel the subtle interplay of these forces within himself, a delicate balance that his Omniversal Dao instinctively sought to maintain.

"We will begin with the "Yin Flow Palm," a technique that emphasizes deflecting and redirecting force," Lia instructed. "Imagine your palm as the surface of still water, capable of absorbing and redirecting any incoming impact."

Tian Chen nodded, taking a stance. He closed his eyes, visualizing a tranquil pool. As he moved his palm in a slow, deliberate motion, a soft, almost invisible layer of energy formed around it, shimmering like the surface of water in the sunlight.

Lia launched a series of swift, controlled strikes towards Tian Chen's palm. With each strike, Tian Chen smoothly redirected the force, his movements fluid and effortless, like water flowing around an obstacle. The energy around his palm absorbed the impact, leaving him unfazed.

"Excellent, Tian Chen," Lia praised. "You grasp the yielding nature of Yin. Now, we will move to the "Yang Burst Fist." This technique focuses on unleashing a concentrated burst of pure Yang energy for offense. Think of the sun, its power erupting in a blinding flash."

Tian Chen focused his intent, drawing upon the Yang energy within his core. He could feel a heat building in his fist, the air around it shimmering with a faint golden light. He unleashed a powerful punch, and a concentrated burst of pure energy erupted from his fist, striking the water at the base of the waterfall with a resounding splash, momentarily parting the flow.

Ling Hua clapped her hands in delight, her violet eyes wide with fascination. Baihu lifted his head, his ears twitching at the sudden burst of energy.

"Very good, Tian Chen," Lia said, her expression pleased. "You are learning to tap into the raw power of Yang. Now, the true mastery lies in seamlessly transitioning between these opposing forces, in finding the perfect balance between Yin and Yang in your techniques."

For the remainder of the afternoon, Lia guided Tian Chen in combining the "Yin Flow Palm" and the "Yang Burst Fist," teaching him how to seamlessly transition from defense to offense, from yielding to explosive power. He practiced the "Yin-Yang Harmonious Strike," a technique where he would first deflect an incoming attack with the yielding force of Yin and then immediately retaliate with the explosive power of Yang.

Each attempt brought him closer to mastering the delicate balance, the dance of opposing forces flowing through him, guided by the wisdom of his Omniversal Dao and the patient teachings of Lia, his ethereal tutor. The path to invincibility was long, but with each lesson, each successful execution of a new technique, Tian Chen felt himself growing stronger, more capable, and more confident in the boundless potential that lay within him.
