Chapter 6 - 6- Divination

The air was electric with the thrum of music and the hum of conversation. Gabriel, Alex, and Ryan stood at the edge of the party, surveying the surreal scene before them. They had been warned that the party would be unusual, but nothing could have prepared them for this.

To their left, a group of people dressed in traditional Hawaiian garb were performing a ritual dance, their movements hypnotic and precise. Nearby, a woman with long, flowing hair and a white dress that seemed to glow in the lantern light was playing a haunting melody on a flute.

The soft glow of the crystal moons illuminated the beach, casting an ethereal light on the Hawaiian women as they worked their mystical crafts. The air was thick with the scent of incense and the sound of soft chanting, creating a hypnotic atmosphere that drew Gabriel, Alex, and Ryan in.

One of the women, her braid adorned with a particularly vibrant violet flower, beckoned Gabriel over to her desk. She smiled, her eyes sparkling with warmth, and began to shuffle a deck of tarot cards.

"Would you like a reading, young one?" she asked, her voice like a gentle breeze.

Gabriel hesitated, feeling a thrill of excitement mixed with a dash of skepticism. But something about the woman's warm smile put him at ease, and he nodded, taking a seat across from her.

As she laid out the cards, Gabriel noticed a woman watching from across the way, her eyes fixed intently on him. He felt a shiver run down his spine, but the Hawaiian woman's gentle humming and the soft rustle of the cards distracted him.

The woman's eyes widened as she studied the cards, her expression growing more serious with each passing moment. Finally, she looked up at Gabriel, her eyes locked on his.

"You are at a crossroads, young one," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "The path ahead is fraught with danger, but also great opportunity. You must listen to your heart and trust your instincts. "

Ryan's constipated expression deepened, his eyes squinting in skepticism. "Dude, this is some woo-woo stuff," he whispered, nodding toward the tarot card reader.

Alex snorted, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, because a few cards and some fancy words are going to reveal the secrets of the universe."

Gabriel shot them a warning glance, but his attention remained fixed on the woman in white. She seemed to be absorbing every detail of their exchange, her gaze never wavering.

As Ryan and Alex followed Gabriel's gaze, they felt a collective jolt of surprise. The woman's elegance and poise were mesmerizing, and for a moment, they forgot about the tarot cards and the mystical atmosphere.

"Whoa," Ryan breathed, his constipated expression forgotten. "Who is that?"

Alex's eyes narrowed, his gaze roving over the woman's slender frame and delicate features. "I have no idea, but she looks like she just stepped out of a Greek mythology textbook."

The woman's gaze never wavered, her eyes remaining fixed on Gabriel. He felt a shiver run down his spine as she began to move toward them, her golden heels clicking softly on the sand.

"Ah, Annet Lee," the tarot card reader said, her voice low and respectful. "Welcome."

Annet Lee's smile was enigmatic, her eyes glinting with a knowing light. "Thank you, Kahina," she said, her voice husky and confident. "I see you've met our young friend Gabriel."

Gabriel's heart skipped a beat as Annet Lee's gaze locked onto his. What did she want from him? And how did she know his name?

"Who are you?" Gabriel asked, his voice barely above a whisper. He hadn't meant to ask the question out loud, but something about Annet Lee's enigmatic smile had slipped past his defenses.

Annet Lee's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with amusement. But she didn't answer Gabriel's question. Instead, she seemed to savor the moment, her gaze locked onto his.

Alex and Ryan exchanged a nervous glance, their facial expressions screaming "creepy alert." They didn't like the way Annet Lee was smiling at Gabriel, or the way she seemed to be pulling him into some kind of mysterious orbit.

But before they could intervene, Annet Lee spoke up, her voice husky and confident.

"Hello, Gabriel," she said, her eyes never leaving his. "I overheard you and your friends talking. Sorry for being rude. I am Annet Lee."

Gabriel's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions. What had Annet Lee overheard? And how did she know his name?

Annet Lee's smile grew wider as she continued to speak. "I'm interested in divination and stuff, obviously," she said, her voice dripping with an otherworldly sweetness. "And Kahina here is a good friend of mine."

Kahina, the tarot card reader, nodded in agreement, her eyes sparkling with a knowing light. "Yes, Annet Lee and I go way back," she said, her voice low and mysterious.

Annet Lee's gaze finally shifted, her eyes locking onto Alex and Ryan. "Hello, Alex," she said, her voice husky and confident. "Hello, Ryan. "

Alex and Ryan exchanged a wary glance, their faces set in uneasy smiles. "Hey," Alex said, his voice cautious.

Ryan just nodded, his eyes fixed on Annet Lee's face. He didn't like the way she was smiling at them, or the way she seemed to be sizing them up.

As the group stood there, the music and laughter of the party swirling around them, Gabriel felt a growing sense of unease. Who was Annet Lee, really? And what did she want from him and his friends?
