Chapter 13 - 13- The mud bed

The doubt and strangeness hung in the air like a thick fog, refusing to lift. It was absurd to think that Annet Lee, the CEO of a prominent New York enterprise, would be interested in extracting their dreams. They were just three ordinary friends, after all, with no connections to the world of dream extraction or corporate espionage.

As they sat there, trying to make sense of it all, they couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over them. This was their last night in Hawaii, a place that had been filled with tarot cards, white crystal gloves, and other strange occurrences. Tomorrow, they would be back in New York, surrounded by the familiar sounds and smells of the city. They would be chasing deadlines, crunching numbers, and living their ordinary lives, far removed from the bizarre world of dream extraction.

Gabriel stood up, stretching his arms over his head. "You know what? I'm done thinking about this. It's our last night in Hawaii, and I want to enjoy it."

Alex and Ryan nodded in agreement, and the three friends clinked their beers together in a toast. "To our last night in Hawaii," Gabriel said, smiling. "May it be dream-free."

The seaside party had been the perfect antidote to the strange occurrences of the past few days. The soft glow of lanterns, the sweet taste of coconut water, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore had all combined to create a magical atmosphere.

As the night wore on, Gabriel, Alex, and Ryan had let loose, laughing and joking together like they used to. They had forgotten all about the tarot cards, the dream extraction, and the mysterious Annet Lee.

Now, as they settled into their cozy hotel room, they felt grateful for the relaxing night. The white bed, covered in plush pillows and comforters, beckoned to them, promising a restful night's sleep.

Gabriel yawned, feeling the exhaustion of the past few days catch up with him. "I'm so glad we did that," he said, snuggling into the bed. "I needed a night to forget about all the craziness."

Alex nodded in agreement, already drifting off to sleep. "Me too, man. Me too."

Ryan smiled, turning off the lights. "Goodnight, guys. Sweet dreams."

The clock in the room froze at 2:04 AM, its ticking silenced as if time itself had stopped. The lanterns outside flickered wildly, casting eerie shadows on the walls as the wild seaside breeze howled through the corridors, attacking the glass windows like a frenzied beast.

One of the glass vases, adorned with a cheerful Nemo painting, teetered on the edge of the table before crashing to the floor, shattering the silence. Gabriel, Alex, and Ryan jolted awake, their hearts racing in unison.

As they sat up, they were met with a sight that made their blood run cold. The one-eyed robot stood in their room, its gaze fixed on them with an unblinking stare. The faint moonlight cast an eerie glow on its metallic body, making it seem like a harbinger of doom.

And then, the impossible happened. Their white bed, once a haven of comfort, transformed before their eyes. The sheets turned a deep brown, like the rich soil of a forest floor. But it wasn't just the color that changed – the texture did too. The bed felt like mud, cold and clammy, sucking them in like quicksand.

The more they struggled to free themselves, the deeper they sank into the muddy abyss. It was as if their bed had become a portal to a nightmare world, one where they were trapped, helpless and sinking fast.

The words froze in their throats, unable to escape as the mud closed in around them. Their final scream was a silent one, trapped in their minds as they were pulled down, down, down into the depths of the muddy abyss.

The world around them dissolved into a swirling vortex of coppery black dust, the air thick with the acrid scent of decay. The dust devils danced around them, drawing them deeper into the heart of Eldrida.

As they sank, the darkness closed in, a suffocating shroud that extinguished the last vestiges of light. The mud gave way to a desolate landscape, a barren wasteland that stretched out before them like an eternal grave.

And in that moment, Gabriel, Alex, and Ryan knew they were trapped in a realm beyond their wildest nightmares, a realm where the laws of reality no longer applied. They were prisoners of Eldrida, forever bound to the whims of the mysterious Dreamwalker, Annet Lee.
