Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Uchiha Downfall

Second-year studies aren't much different from first year. The academic subjects are the same, just at a higher difficulty. And in the afternoons, there's no more basic PE, since by now everyone who hasn't been asked to leave has successfully extracted chakra.

As long as they keep their heads down and finish the six-year curriculum, they'll either gain recognition from a Jonin and become important new Genin for the village, or they'll join some other department. The chance of spending six years only to go back to being an ordinary civilian is slim.

Over the next five years, they'll be taught skills in information gathering and assassination. None of that poses the slightest challenge for Izayoi—in fact, he finds it boring. After just a few days, he couldn't stick to his initial plan (which was to attend classes in person) and sent a shadow clone to school instead. Meanwhile, the real Izayoi stayed at home to train.

Though he can't practice the standard Five-Element Ninjutsu at home, he can work on developing new jutsu. Normally, crafting a jutsu requires a strong foundation in nature transformation or shape transformation, but Izayoi, as a transmigrant, knows there's one technique that doesn't need either—only a hefty dose of chakra: the Rasengan.

The Fourth Hokage got the idea from the Tailed Beast Bomb and spent several years creating this A-rank, no-element, no-hand-seal technique. It's also Naruto Uzumaki's signature move, used throughout the original story in all kinds of variations. It's the only jutsu in canon whose entire training process was explicitly shown. Anyone who watched Naruto closely would remember that training arc. Izayoi, of course, still has it fresh in his mind.

However, Izayoi isn't learning the Rasengan to use it as his ace-in-the-hole. Rather, he wants to do exactly what he described: develop a new jutsu. Rasengan is a no-hand-sign jutsu invented by the Fourth Hokage; in Konoha, it carries special significance. Other than the Fourth, only his teacher and his students have mastered it. If Izayoi suddenly started using Rasengan one day, he would undoubtedly draw the attention of the village's higher-ups. Without a good explanation, a lot of suspicion could arise—something he doesn't want.

Hence, he hopes to use the Rasengan as a base to create a different no-hand-sign technique: "Super Typhoon Serial Spheres." This technique, also called "Multiple Giant Rasengan," appeared in the TV anime, where Asura Otsutsuki used it against Indra Otsutsuki. It works similarly to Naruto's Planetary Rasengan.

First, you generate an energy sphere slightly smaller than the Giant Rasengan, then add five smaller Rasengan-like spheres inside it, each one spinning independently. Like the Rasen Shuriken, you can throw or launch it; once it detonates, you get six consecutive explosions. If the main orb is destroyed prematurely, the five smaller ones scatter out to attack.

As with Naruto's habit of mixing different chakra natures into his Rasengan, you could potentially inject five-elemental chakra into this jutsu—or even combine all five at once, similar to the Third Hokage's "Five Release Great Combo Technique," creating a cataclysmic level of destructive power.

Without his Red-tier Otsutsuki Bloodline and Purple-tier All-Attribute Constitution, Izayoi wouldn't dare attempt this. Mastering the standard Rasengan alone would be enough for most. But thanks to his "no-seal casting" gift from the Otsutsuki bloodline, along with Purple-tier Chakra Control, Izayoi has the foundation to turn this anime-original jutsu into reality.

His strong chakra control let him learn the Rasengan in just a week. Next, he needs to keep injecting chakra, growing the Rasengan to roughly basketball-size without letting it blow up, and then try to form smaller energy spheres inside. Obviously, that's too dangerous to practice at home. If it blew up, the consequences would be unthinkable. So, he decided to bide his time, waiting for the Uchiha Clan's downfall.

May 15th arrived, and the fated day finally came. Typically, there were only two or three afternoon classes, followed by survival training every few weeks to check student progress. Even then, classes ended around 5:00 p.m. But today, Second Year, Class A unexpectedly had four afternoon periods. Their final survival exercise lasted until dusk.

The Uchiha District, near the Naka River, is basically on the outskirts of the village. If you don't use the Body Flicker to travel, it's almost nightfall by the time Sasuke gets home. Indeed, night had already fallen, and the moon was out—round and tinted red by the evening glow, looking almost like blood.

Izayoi's shadow clone watched Sasuke leave the Academy gates and jog home. He knew that after tonight, the somewhat mild-tempered, unconcerned-about-grades version of Sasuke would vanish completely.

In his place would be a cold avenger, obsessed with proving himself and easily triggered by the slightest provocation. Izayoi, in spite of the tragedy, found himself anticipating this transformation—it was what he'd waited a whole year for.

The next day, a piece of news shook Konoha to its core and quickly spread beyond.

Through clandestine spy networks, it was soon all over the ninja world: after the Senju's decline, the Uchiha clan had become the most prominent family in Konoha—arguably the top ninja clan worldwide, owners of a Kekkei Genkai famed for its prowess in one-on-one combat, copying jutsu, and powerful illusions. Yet it had been wiped out.

And the culprit wasn't the Hyuga Clan or Konoha's leadership or even some rival village. It was Itachi Uchiha, the clan leader's 13-year-old eldest son. Overnight, he annihilated the Uchiha. Within days, Itachi became known throughout the shinobi world as Konoha's youngest-ever S-rank missing-nin.

When Izayoi left home that morning, practically everyone in the village was talking about it. It was a massive event, on par with the Nine-Tails' attack seven years earlier.

In such a short span, Konoha had lost its Fourth Hokage couple, a number of other powerful shinobi, and now its foremost ninja clan. Clearly, it had entered the weakest phase since the village was founded.

In the past, Konoha's legion of Kage-level fighters could challenge four enemy villages at once. Now only the aging Third Hokage remained. After the Nine-Tails attack, Kumogakure had already tried to exploit Konoha's situation.

In theory, losing the top clan should only invite more outside aggression. Yet, for the next few years, Konoha remained unexpectedly calm. Clearly, the other villages sensed something was off.
