Chapter 61 - Sincere Mercenary

Anna ran to her room. This couldn't be happening. She remembered Adam's words perfectly. He would kill the baby, and maybe her too. He rejected the idea of having a child with a human and she didn't want one from him either.

She went into the bathroom of her bedroom and opened the drawers looking for something that even she didn't know what it could be, until she found a pair of scissors. She paused, staring at the scissors thoughtfully. What if she ended it all at that moment? She could kill herself. She looked at the bathtub and on an impulse, turned on the tap and stood in it, as if in a trance, watching the water fill the tub, while she held the scissors. Once the tub was full, she got into it, with the clothes she was wearing, slit her wrists, and after seeing the blood running down the bathroom floor, she sat down in the tub, closed her eyes, and went to sleep.

Anna was awoken by jolts in her arm and looked startled at Jenna, who was smiling.

"Adam needs to let you sleep properly! You've been on your honeymoon for two months now. I think you both deserve this happiness, but it's already getting in the way of your activities..."

Anna stopped listening to Jenna when she looked at her wrist and it was intact. Not even a slight scar. She would have believed she had imagined it all, if the scissors hadn't been lying bloodstained at Jenna's feet, who followed her gaze and after a second of confusion, looked indignantly at Anna.

 "Anna! What have you done?"

"No, Jenna. Tell me how Adam turns you into werewolves?"

"I don't know. I wasn't turned... I was born that way... Anna! Do you think he turned you?"

"What are... Ah! I need to talk to Genevieve."

 Jenna became suspicious.

"All right, but it'll have to wait a few months, she's gone, on another mission for the boss..."

"I don't have months, Jenna." Anna said and stood up from the bath in front of Jenna's inquisitive gaze.

"Why did you get into the bath with your clothes on? Did you try to kill yourself? What does the blood on the scissors mean?"

 "Jenna... I need your help."

 "Of course."

 "Take me to a pharmacy."

 "Why? Don't you feel well?"

Anna couldn't talk to Jenna. Adam could see her, could read her lips.

"Uh... I want to buy some tampons. I saw it on TV and thought it was interesting."

"Anna, you're very strange. You have class after lunch and you don't need to worry about these things. I'll have them bought for you..."

 Anna gave a forced smile.

"Jenna... I want to go." Anna didn't think she needed to explain further. Jenna was a good friend, but she was also loyal to her Alpha.

 "What..."

"Don't worry about it anymore. I'll sort it out later. I'm sorry I bothered you."

"Calm down, Anna. I didn't mean to..."

"It's okay, Jenna. Can you leave me alone so I can change?"

Jenna gave her a hurt look and left.

Anna took a few dollars from her purse after changing out of her wet clothes and realized that she only had two hundred dollars. That money was leftover, which she had hidden from Adam, from the money he left her to buy whatever she wanted. It would come in handy so that she could pay for a pregnancy test. She still didn't know what she would do if Genevieve was right, or if Adam had turned her into a hairy monster, but she needed to know and a laboratory would tell her that.

After lunch, which she pretended was fine, she got permission from Adam to go to the pharmacy, as long as one of the men in the black suit went with her.

Anna didn't mind, because the pharmacy she was pretending to go to was opposite a hospital.

She got out of the car when they arrived at the pharmacy and without knowing what she was doing, she went back and leaned out of the car window and the man in the black suit turned to her.

"I need you to go to that supermarket and buy some leeks, potatoes, chicken stock and butter for me to make for dinner and buy some Old Parr too."

 He looked at her doubtfully.

"The boss won't like it if I leave you alone. Buy what you need at the pharmacy, and then we'll go to the supermarket together."

"I'm sure Adam won't mind. I don't want to go into a supermarket right now."

 "I'm sorry, ma'am."

Anna stood up defeated. She would have to find another way. She leaned back on the glass.

 "I need money."

He immediately reached into his wallet and pulled out four hundred-dollar bills and handed them to her.

Anna entered the pharmacy and waited anxiously to be left alone with the clerk.

 "I need your help."

"What's wrong?" The old man on the other side asked, thinking she was too young.

"I need to know if I'm pregnant, but my father has sent an escort and if he finds out, he'll throw me out of the house."

"That's not my problem." The man said indifferently.

Anna showed him the four hundred dollars.

 "Please?"

The man took the money, took a deep breath and took out a urine container from a drawer and handed it to her.

"Go to the bathroom and urinate into this pot, and I'll take it to the hospital. Tomorrow you'll come back with another four hundred dollars and I'll give you the results of the test."

"I don't have any more money!"

 "That's not my problem."

Anna snatched the pot out of his hand and headed for the bathroom in a rage. She handed the jar of urine to the man.

"Don't talk to anyone about this."

The man looked at her appraisingly.

"Young lady, I don't know you and I don't know who would be interested in your information, but if you don't pay me, you'll never get any answers from me."

Anna still stared at him angrily. He was a mercenary and made no secret of the fact that he would sell his mother for a mint. But maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. He was sincere. For a good price.

When she got into the car, he told her to drive straight home. She wouldn't make dinner that night. She didn't have the strength.
