Kate walked through the garden nave of Adam's mansion, which had been prepared for the occasion.
She was happy and sad at the same time. She didn't know why he hadn't allowed any of her relatives or friends to attend her wedding. She only saw strange people, and Adam's armed men everywhere. Werewolves. Nameless faces and strangers who smiled at her as she walked to meet Adam, who, like her, had chosen to get married in a white dress, was wearing a white tuxedo. She was forced to agree not to invite anyone, as he had made this a condition of the wedding.
However, he let her choose her dress, without worrying about the price. And she chose the most beautiful dress she had ever worn. She imagined him unbuttoning each of the hundred little pearl buttons on the back of the dress. She knew she looked beautiful. The look in everyone's eyes was like her own when she saw herself in the mirror, after she was completely ready.
The justice of the peace was quick with his words, as if he was in a hurry to get this part of the wedding over with. He seemed uncomfortable with the situation. But Kate didn't mind when she saw the delicate, tasteful gold ring that Adam slipped onto her finger.
She turned to the guests after the last words, and they were already serving themselves with the banquet that had been prepared there too. No one came to greet them.
Adam accompanied her to the table reserved for them, and they were soon served.
Kate looked at him suspiciously. He didn't seem eager to take her to bed. She wondered if the five thousand dollars she had paid Sarah to make him feel pleasure only with her again would have any effect.
Her conversation with Sarah, the day she left Adam's office, practically engaged to him, came back to her.
"I want him to desire only me. I want him to feel pleasure only with me."
"That will be expensive. I know someone who can help me do that, but she won't do it for cheap."
Kate stared at her in mockery. She knew she would do the job herself.
"How much would 'she' ask for?"
"This is a double job. One is to get Adam to enjoy women again, and the other is to get him to enjoy only you. That's not easy. If he were human, I wouldn't have much trouble, but he's the most powerful of the werewolves, so..."
Kate stared at her impatiently.
"When's the job?"
"Give me five thousand dollars, and I'll take my cut."
"That's quite a high price. Is it guaranteed?"
"Yes. If you follow all the steps, you'll have Adam all to yourself, forever."
Kate looked at her thoughtfully.
"Why didn't you turn this spell to your advantage? I know you've always wanted to be Adam's wife."
Sarah smiled.
"I would need him to ask me to marry him and unlike you, I have nothing to blackmail him with to make him beg me to marry him."
Kate looked suspiciously at Sarah.
"I'll give you the payment today. I need urgency on this job."
"There's something you need to know before you order that job."
"Tell me."
"You'll be condemning your soul to hell if you go down this road."
"That doesn't seem to frighten you."
"I'll be welcomed in hell. I sold my soul years ago."
"I don't care what happens to my soul after I die." Kate said and walked away.
Sarah smiled. She knew that Kate would regret that choice when it was too late.
What neither of them realized was that Alexander was hiding, listening to their every word. And he wouldn't allow his boss to be bewitched by the shrew, so he concentrated on calling the Alpha in his mind and told him everything he had heard.
Kate looked once more at the guests, who were more interested in all the food than they had been at the wedding. And as she wandered her eyes over the strange faces, she found one staring at her with a fiery glow and it excited her. It was Caricature. She would probably make him her lover. Something about him exuded virility, and she felt drawn to him, knowing that he wanted her and hated her at the same time.
She raised her glass to him in a toast, with a seductive smile, and laughed when he turned his back on her, without returning the toast, and went into the crowd, where her eyes couldn't reach him.
Then Kate turned to her husband and found him staring at her with exaggerated attention. She wondered if he had seen the glance she had cast in the direction of one of her werewolves.
Adam looked very comfortable and calm. If he had, he would have humiliated her so that everyone there would look down on her.
After she had put the spell Sarah had given her into his werewolf drink, Adam had shown himself to be more patient and even affectionate with her. Which led her to believe that the spell had worked.
She smiled at him as if she was grateful for the wedding, but in truth, she wasn't. She wished she'd gotten married in a church. She wished she'd gotten married in a church and had chosen groomsmen from among her friends. But on the other hand, someone she wanted very much would find out about her wedding. Jenna was at the party and would probably tell Anna. She believed that the girl had already been married by then, but she wanted her to know that the only children Adam would recognize as legitimate heirs, because she had no doubt that Adam could have children with other women, would be the ones she would give him, as soon as he wanted them, because when she talked about it with him, Adam said that he wanted to enjoy her only for himself, for the time being, and that he would only think about children in the future. She didn't mind, because she didn't want to be a mother either. That would require dedication on her part, which she didn't want for herself at the moment.
