Adam turned to Kate.
"You know we're on a farm, right? You know I have corrals with horses and I can put you to sleep with them." He said thoughtfully.
"And what will your werewolves think of you? The Alpha can't control his wife, so he makes her sleep in a corral?"
"Kate... I've killed a lot of people for doing a lot less than you're doing."
"You're in my hands, Adam. I've thought of everything. I've had time for this. You're not going to do anything to me."
"No, Kate. Actually, you haven't thought of anything." He said and turned to Caricature. "Get the package and take it to the living room." He ordered and as soon as Caricature stood up and left, he turned to Kate again. "I have three pieces of news to give you and a warning." He said, staring at Kate, his eyes dark.
"Then say it. Let's do the laundry."
"Kate, what reason would I have to marry you?"
"You have a thirst for power, Adam. I brought your father's will with me, and if you didn't marry me I'd take it back. You wanted my witnesses and they are safe, in a place that is well protected in my mind."
"No, Kate. You didn't give me that will. And as for the two witnesses who signed that document... Caricature infiltrated your friends and convinced them to talk about you. I think you're very forgetful. Apart from those two witnesses, there was the clerk himself, who left a record of the document in two other places, so apart from you, there were only three people who were loyal, but not even to you, but to your boss, Allister. And I killed them. Then Caricature can give you the details of how they were killed."
Kate knew he wasn't lying. She knew him well enough to know that. And also, there was no concern in his eyes. That bothered her a little. He had a card up his sleeve. That was clear as day.
"So why did you marry me?" She asked after a while.
"That's the first thing I have to tell you... I didn't get married."
"You're delusional." Kate said mockingly. Perhaps the letter he had kept hidden was to make her believe that she was crazy and had imagined the wedding.
"It was an act, Kate..."
"Why would you bother?"
"Boredom... Revenge for trying to make me only interested in you... Hate that you dared to blackmail me... you can choose a reason, if you must, but it was also to relieve the urge I had to take your life. I was dreaming of your death. Those were wonderful nights."
"So... That's why I didn't have any acquaintances at the party. That's why you didn't allow me to invite my friends. You didn't want any witnesses!" Kate said, suddenly understanding everything.
"I think I heard the sound of the plug falling there in your mind."
"Even so, I still have your father's will and also many witnesses to the fact that I lived with you as much more than a wife and... You can't erase the memory of the other people who witnessed the two of us together. Restaurants and parties. There are photos of us all over the place. If I accuse you of faking a marriage, you'll lose everything you have..."
"The second thing I have to tell you..." Adam said, ignoring what she had just said. "I'm not going to give in to your blackmail... And before you go on with this idea that we've been in a relationship for years, answer me something; have you forgotten that at the same time you were appearing with me in places, you were also appearing with your client, Allister? The same people who have photos of the two of us together have photos of you with your boss, too. And as for witnesses... You have yours, and I have mine. Even though we both know they're not important, because none of this will ever get to court."
Kate glared at him.
"And the third thing?"
Adam stood up and held out his hand to her.
"When you want to blackmail someone, be ready to present relevant content. I'm going to teach you how to blackmail, how to gather material to leave someone in the lurch, without having to kill them to do it."
"What do you want to show me?"
"It's in the room. Let's go." He said and turned to Ryan and Jenna, who were still at the table. "You're also invited to come with us."
Kate accepted the hand that helped her up and released it once she was on her feet, and they all walked into the living room, where Alexandre and Caricatura were sitting on the large sofa in front of the big television.
Jenna and Ryan came forward and sat next to Caricature, while Alexandre and Adam and Kate stood side by side.
Adam turned to Caricature.
"Give the package to Kate."
Caricatura stood up and picked up a suitcase that was on the coffee table in the living room and threw it to Kate, who caught it in the air, then sat down in her seat.
"Open it, Kate. Don't be shy now." Adam encouraged debauchedly. Maybe you'll recognize something in there..."
Kate opened it and all the documents, the will and its copies, photos and evidence that she had given to her lawyer were inside. There was also a USB stick on which she had placed the visual tortures that Adam had practiced. She recognized it, because there was her handwriting on the label, which said torture. She turned to Adam, more furious than she had ever thought possible.
"How did you get this?" She asked, finding it strange that the lawyer hadn't revealed anything to her when she talked to him that afternoon.
"As I said before, that was the third thing I had to tell you. Do you really think you'd be able to go through my things, or that you'd be free in my house, without any surveillance? Kate, I have cameras everywhere in this house. And I had my men follow you, and you led us to your lawyer. He didn't even have time to open the flash drive, or he'd be dead by now. You'd be responsible for his death, too. Don't you think a lot of people have already died because of you?"
"You think I don't have copies?" Kate asked wryly. "I'm not that stupid, Adam!"
"Now it's time for the warning. Let's watch a movie first." He said and showed her to the other sofa and after she had sat down, he sat down next to her and turned to Alexander. "You can turn on the TV."
Kate spent the next half hour, with her mouth open, watching a pornographic movie, heavy and explicit, where she was the protagonist. And she couldn't even deny it, or say she looked like someone else, because everyone she knew knew that she had those tattoos. She felt humiliated after Alexandre turned off the television. And she saw, with a little relief, that Jenna got up and left looking angry.
