Chapter 177 - The Man in the Toga

As soon as she left, Ian looked at his father seriously.

"Did your son come with you?"

Adam exchanged an astonished glance with his son's grandfather. He paid attention to details, which is unusual for children his age.

"Actually, he was already here when I arrived... We'll talk about it over lunch tomorrow." Adam said, not wanting to start his relationship with his son with lies.

"Did you like this woman, Ian?"

"No. She's garbage." The boy said and got down from his chair and ran to his grandfather, taking his hand and leading him to sit where Bonnie had been sitting, and turned to Adam. "Shall we make Grandpa a guinea pig?"

 Adam smiled and stood up.

"Sure." He said and took the cake that the two of them had made out of the oven.

As they ate, with a cup of coffee that the cook had made, after their entrance into the kitchen had been admitted again by Ian, between one mild conversation and another, Anna's father said so quickly, and so covertly between one sentence and another that Ian couldn't understand.

"You'll be followed on your date tonight." He said smiling, and put a piece of cake in his grandson's mouth.

Adam knew then that Henry must have cloned Anna's cell phone. He understood the message and didn't bother to reply. He didn't mind being followed, as he had no intention of hurting Anna. As well as being the mother of his child, she was the woman he loved.

...

Bonnie locked the bedroom door and sat crying on the bed.

"You're going to flood the apartment." The seductive, quiet voice reached Bonnie's ears and she jumped.

 "Genevieve!"

Genevieve started looking at her freshly painted nails.

"They're beautiful, don't you think?" She said and held out her hand for Bonnie to look at and then took it back again. "I've just painted them. It would be a shame if they were damaged or chipped."

Bonnie crossed her arms and looked at her defiantly.

"I think Adam will deliver you into my hands. He knows, Genevieve. E... Your nails will be the least of your problems when I start... Negotiate with you." She said menacingly.

Genevieve took another look at her nails.

"Yes. I'll be very upset if you give me a reason to come in here again." She said softly.

Bonnie looked around to see if anyone else was hiding in the room and when she turned back to Genevieve, she had disappeared.

Bonnie put her hands to her head. Was she going mad? Either she was seeing and perceiving things that weren't there, or... She was living among creatures that posed as humans, but were monsters. And the more she thought about it, the second option began to make a lot of sense.

 ...

Anna would never tire of admiring her husband's beauty and feeling aroused when she saw him in his judge's robe.

He was just too sexy. It was so natural that she felt he was born for the job.

Maxwell saw Anna staring at him from the last row of chairs in the courtroom. He felt like smiling because he could see so much love in those beautiful eyes. But he remained firm and serious. He needed to concentrate on the case he was trying. It happened to be one of his father-in-law's men. He would decide the fate of that man, who was involved with the mafia. He knew from his father-in-law that the boy wasn't really a mobster. He was just a trusted man who had been caught with heavy weapons on a tip-off. He himself had issued the confiscation order for the boy's house. He wasn't going to convict him, since he hadn't killed anyone or stolen anything. But he had to let the lawyers speak and he had to listen to the prosecution.

As soon as the trial was over, and the boy left with a debt of one hundred thousand dollars to answer for, Maxwell left and went to change his robe. He found Anna waiting for him in the corridor. She approached him and kissed him softly, but he grabbed her, pulling her to him, and kissed her savagely. He could feel his cock hardening and her breathing becoming heavy. He released her, before his instincts made him rip off that dress she was wearing and fuck her right there. She stared at him with a promise in her eyes. A promise that said that tonight he would be rewarded for behaving.

They left hugging and Maxwell took her to a nearby restaurant, where most of the customers were lawyers, judges and prosecutors. They avoided the subject that was eating them up during the meal. They knew that afterwards they wouldn't have the appetite for anything else. They wanted to enjoy each other's company before problems got between them.

"So far, Ian hasn't called me." Anna observed. "I don't think he misses me anymore."

"He hasn't called me either, as is his wont. I'm afraid of the conclusion he's reached in my heart."

"You're experienced, Max. Do you know if Adam has a chance of winning a court battle for custody of Ian?"

"I'll be honest, Anna. As much as it pains me to admit it, he has every chance. The courts will rule in favor of Adam, and we can appeal, but we'd be dragging Ian into a battle that could last years, and which will probably be in Adam's favor in the end. No judge will leave custody of Ian to us after Adam has presented his evidence. I adopted a child, circumventing the law, lying that I was the biological father, and... you're my accomplice. Ian would live with Adam until the end of the process. I don't know what Ian will think of that. He's very intelligent, and I'm afraid that a battle like this would drive him away from us."

"So the solution would be to let Adam take him?" Anna was shocked by Maxwell's attitude, even though she knew he was right, she had expected a little resistance from him.

"No. Never!" Maxwell said with conviction. "I'm thinking of running away with our family, to a country where they wouldn't be able to find us. We'd change our name. And that would have to be done while Adam still hasn't filed for paternity or custody of Ian."

 "Dad won't accept that..."

"We'd have to leave him behind too, Anna." He said regretfully.
