After witnessing a wedding, the memories it brought her were so heavy she wanted to do something to get it off her mind, so she went back to the palace to look for Ling'er. She floated to the palace as she knew for sure seeing Ling'er would make her feel better.
Once she reached the palace, she couldn't find linger, so she had a bad premonition and a sense of dread settled in the pits of her stomach. The only thing that came to her mind was the pregnant consort, so she immediately rushed to Consort Bai's palace.
She reached there and couldn't find the consort so she started frantically looking for her something told her the consort and her baby were at risk She went to every palace looking for the pregnant consort as she was rushing to the final palace which was the empress palace and she numbed into Linger who was heading the same direction.
The two looked at each and the look on Mei's face scared Ling'er she tried calming her down asking what happened but before Mei answered she smelled a very foul smell and dark energy which reeked of vengeance surrounding them and that was all the signal Mei needed she floated to the palace within Ling'er right behind her despite the air which was unpleasantly hot and heavy which created a sense of oppressive heat and discomfort.
The sight they encountered when they entered dropped their non-existent heart to their stomach. Seated there were all the women in the emperor's harem. They looked uncomfortable, and some were unable to breathe, fanning themselves as thick black air surrounded them. Mei followed the source of the air and her eyes settled on Consort Bai's stomach.
The look on the consort's face was very pale, and she looked like she was in a lot of pain and about to pass out the source of all this was a malicious ghost which curled itself around the consort's stomach as it looked like it was strangling the life out of the baby in the consort's stomach.
Mei's despair was so intense her bulging eye would terrify anyone who looked at her at that moment and the only thought Mei was the baby being hurt, which felt like it would drive her to the edge.
Without thinking, she hurled herself toward the ghost, yanking its hair; it let a deep growl; it looked very annoyed and rammed into Mei, sending her crushing the wall.
Mei was out of the way. The evil spirit rushed to Consort Bai, trying to coil around her stomach. Ling'er, seeing her friend thrown to the wall, got very heat and the air surrounding her was thick with furry. She rushed to the evil spirit, jabbed her fingers into its eyes, and threw it to the wall like she did with Mei.
Mei was shocked by the sight; she was embarrassed that Ling'er so easily handled the ghost while Mei herself was thrown against the wall like a paper doll, but happy to now have the upper hand, she went to Ling'er's side to help.
The evil ghost not expecting to be thrown to her wall by a small ghost realised more dark energy in the air and Mei sensing the change in the air looked around to find some concubines visibly struggling to breathe she looked the consort to find her breathing heavy and she knew they had to get the ghost out as early as possible or the lives of people would be in danger.
She looked around and found Ling'er jabbing her fingers into the ghost's eye while dragging it outside the Empress's palace. Mei wanted to follow Ling'er, but she could hear the commotion and saw that the Consort had passed out, creating chaos among the ladies in the room.
Determined, she followed Ling'er and overheard the ghost howling that no baby would be born alive in the palace, while Ling'er continued to drag it away.
Ling'er noticed her friends caring for the pregnant concubine these few days. She didn't know why, but she was willing to support her, so she instructed Mei to go back and promised to handle the evil ghost by herself and come.
Mei, grateful for her friend's support, immediately floated to the palace to find the emperor lifting the concubine into his palanquin, instructing his eunuch to call a physician fast as she instructed the attendants to carry him to the consort palace.
Mei floated after the palanquin, praying, hoping for the baby to be okay she had built a connection with the baby, and she felt as if that was her own baby, and she was willing to do anything for it.
After reaching the consort palace, the emperor lifted her to the bed while the imperial physician called to come to take the consort's pulse. Mei, looking at his face, could see the physician's face scrunching, and she knew it was bad news.
The thought of anything happening to the baby scared her. The feeling she felt the last time she lost her baby rushed through her memories, which left her in a panic, expecting her hand to pass through her stomach as it usually did with mortals. To her surprise, she felt a hard surface and could touch it. She felt moved to tears as she felt a human's warmth for the first time in three months, and the cold dissipated from her hands.
She couldn't feel the baby move and she could see the sweat on the physician's forehead so she remembered the baby always kicked when she spoke so she lowered her face talking to the baby and she felt a small flutter like a kick and she continued every word she uttered increasing the intensity of the kick and her heart finally settled.
The physician mentioned that he didn't feel any pulse for the baby at first, fearing the worst, but he felt it now, and it was strong. The only worry was the mother. She was too weak, and she needed to wake up before. If not, the consort and the baby would both be at severe risk.
