Chapter 4 - Edelmundr

Momentary silence enveloped the room as Lohran struggled to process the information.

"Huh? What do you mean there are no mornings?!" he asked in bewilderment.

The hell did this lass mean?

"L-Like I said, young master Lohran… The Zorra is impossible to see anymore."

Milly fidgeted, struggling to explain.

She hadn't finished her schooling and wasn't the best with words.

"Zorra? You mean the sun? And why is it impossible to see?" Lohran pressed, eager to understand this strange phenomenon.

"W-Well, I'm not too versed in the matters of Dawnchasers, but from what is known to the public…" Milly hesitated before continuing.

"The Zoraphim, lord of the Zoraphs, is apparently responsible for everything. When it arrived in our world, it brought with it a veil of darkness that covered the entire sky, blocking the Zorra's light and warmth from reaching us. Oh! But I heard a rumor that if one flies high enough, they might catch a glimpse of the Zorra!"

Lohran frowned at the information.

'Zoraphim? What a bastard… Why the hell would you block sunlight for everyone unless you were an absolute scumbag?' he thought, his cold silence making Milly nervous.

Ever since her young master had woken up, he had acted nothing like a child.

He seemed more than ten years her senior!

Unbeknownst to the maid, her intuition was spot on, as Lohran was already in his early thirties when he left his original world for this one after being defeated by a truck driver, according to him.

"I see…" Lohran responded.

It didn't seem like he would get good answers from the young woman beside him, so Lohran decided to just research the damned Zorphlings, Zoraphs, and that asshole Zoraphim.

'Stealing my dawns from me… I swear, if I get my hands on that shithead…'

This world seemed about as technologically advanced as his former one, so looking up public information shouldn't be too difficult.

Even his room felt sleek and modern.

"Do we have a more portable version of that thing over there?" Lohran asked, drawing both his and Milly's attention to the computer setup a few meters from his bed.

Naturally, he was referring to a smartphone—something he could use to quickly look up whatever he needed.

'Oh? Maybe they even have AI assistants? That would be handy…' Lohran mused.

"Ahh, if you mean a digital handscreen, then yes." Milly momentarily froze before responding, bringing a smile to the red runt's face, though that smile was short-lived.

"But you are not allowed to touch one until you're eighteen years old, as per Lord Garwin's instructions…"

Lohran exploded in utter frustration.

"What?! Why is he forbidding me from such useful stuff?! That's so stupid! Am I really supposed to read a book to learn everything? Dumb!" he snapped, fuming.

What was he, a child?!

A moment later, Lohran took a deep breath and calmed down, remembering that he was, in fact, a child.

Maybe banning kids from using phones at such a young age wasn't such a bad idea after all.

"Ahem. Fine then. Give me books with the basic knowledge I need about this world."

Milly was flabbergasted by his furious outburst—only for him to switch, just as suddenly, into a calm and understanding son.

Her young master was indeed a little unhinged and mentally unstable, just as the physician had said…

The maid brushed away the tears welling in her eyes, then smiled and nodded at her young master before quickly retrieving a few books from a bookshelf across the room.

Lohran watched her with mild displeasure.

He couldn't shake the feeling that he had just been unintentionally insulted.

'The hell was she crying about?'

A few minutes later, Milly returned, carrying a few books of varying sizes and thickness with her.

Lohran could feel his head throb just by looking at the nerdy paraphernalia.

He absolutely abhorred books.

But what other choice did he have but to read them?

He was frustratingly injured, barely allowed to move, and wasn't even permitted to use the computer or digital smartscreen without his parents' supervision.

If there was one thing Lohran had learned from decades of fighting in the octagon, it was to follow the doctor's advice to a T—unless he wanted to suffer later.

The physician had told him to rest for seven days, so that was exactly what he would do.

'Time to read these damned books then…'

Grabbing the smallest, green-colored book titled "The World of Edelmundr", Lohran opened it and began reading.

He could understand everything with surprising ease, despite the entire text being written in a strange, unfamiliar language.

Then, not even five seconds later…

'Oh, look, a fly!'

He was already spacing out. His stomach, too, began to protest.

'Well, can't read on an empty stomach, can we?'

"Milly, can you bring me food? I'm hungry."

"Hm? R-Right away, young master!"

With a smile, the short, pink-haired maid bolted off, seemingly excited to serve him a meal.

'What a weird girl…'

Shaking his head, Lohran shifted his attention back to the book, trying to face what he hated the most.

His reading habits weren't exactly the best, but they still allowed him to learn a few things.

Obviously, based on the book's title, the world he was in was called Edelmundr, and humans here were known as…

'Endrans? Psh, what a lame-ass name,' Lohran mused, flipping to the next page.

He read on, learning about the world's continents and their rulers.

Apparently, he was in the Yuragarde Continent, which was currently under the rule of the High Republic of Kairindor.

'Hoh, Four Grand Houses, Eight Great Houses, and Thirty-Two Minor Aristocratic Houses, huh?'

Based on what the four-eyed physician and his father had discussed earlier, he was born into one of the Thirty-Two Minor Aristocratic Houses.

Sure enough, as he continued reading, he saw the name of his house at the bottom-most part of the page.

'Minor Aristocratic House of Neyvaris'

Lohran was about to flip the page again when the door suddenly burst open. His mother, Celina, rushed in, giving him a light hug while frantically urging Milly to push the food cart faster.

'Boy, does that smell freakin' good or what?!'

And so, the red-haired runt temporarily set the book aside.

He would have plenty of time to read later.

For now, he would savor the…prime-grade ribeye steak in front of him.
