Chapter 4 - set up

Kiara's pov*

---

I sat beneath my favorite tree, the leaves rustling gently in the warm breeze. It was my escape, a peaceful spot where I could daydream and let my worries drift away. But today was different. My friend Mia approached with an excited gleam in her eyes.

"Hey! You have to come with me! I want to show you something!" she exclaimed, practically bouncing on her feet.

Curiosity piqued, I followed her as she led the way through the familiar paths of our neighborhood, but unease began to settle in my stomach. When we reached the backyard of an abandoned house—far from our usual hangout spots—my heart raced with apprehension.

"Mia, where are we?" I asked, glancing around nervously.

Mia turned to face me with a grin that felt off. "Just trust me! It's going to be fun!"

But as we stepped into the open space, my breath caught in my throat. There, standing in a semi-circle under the shadow of the old oak tree, were Bianca and a group of boys—some I recognized from school, others were strangers. They were holding weapons—baseball bats and something that looked suspiciously like a crowbar.

My heart sank as I realized I had been set up. I looked at Mia, betrayal flooding my chest. "You… you brought me here? Why?" I spat out, anger and disbelief swirling within me.

Mia shifted uncomfortably under my fiery gaze but didn't respond. Instead, I turned my attention to Bianca, who stepped forward with a smug smile plastered on her face.

"Surprise! Did you really think I'd let you get close to Kyle without consequences?" Bianca taunted, flicking her hair back dramatically.

"Bianca," I said slowly, trying to keep my voice steady despite the storm brewing inside me. "This is ridiculous. What do you think this will accomplish?"

Bianca's smile faded slightly as she crossed her arms defiantly. "Let's cut to the chase," she said coldly. "BEAT HER"

I felt a chill run down my spine as I faced the boys, the fear creeping in like a shadow. The boy with the baseball bat stepped forward, his eyes filled with a dangerous glint. My heart raced as he raised the bat, ready to swing it at me with all his might.

Just as I braced myself for the impact, someone threw their arms around me from behind. It was Kyle! He hugged me tightly just as the bat came crashing down. The sound of wood splintering echoed through the yard, and I gasped when I realized the bat had shattered against his back.

Kyle turned around slowly, a fierce determination burning in his eyes. The boy who had swung the bat stood there, stunned and wide-eyed at what had just happened. "You think you can bully her like that?" Kyle challenged, stepping protectively in front of me.

I could hardly believe what I was witnessing. Kyle wasn't hurt; he stood tall and unyielding, ready to confront whoever dared to threaten me. My heart swelled with gratitude and something deeper—this was more than just friendship; it was bravery.

The tension in the air shifted as Kyle's presence seemed to embolden me. I took a deep breath, feeling a surge of confidence. "You don't get to treat people like this," I said, my voice stronger than before.

The boy with the broken bat hesitated, glancing between Kyle and me. "how.. how did this happen "he said looking at his broken bat

As the boys advanced, Kyle's expression hardened. He was ready to fight, but he knew he had to keep his true identity hidden. With a swift motion, he stepped forward, positioning himself between me and the threat

The first boy charged at him, swinging the bat with reckless abandon. Kyle sidestepped effortlessly, using the boy's momentum against him. In a fluid motion, he grabbed the boy's arm and twisted it behind his back with a sickening crack. The boy cried out in pain as Kyle released him, sending him stumbling to the ground.

The second boy, seeing his friend fall, rushed in with a wild swing of his fists. Kyle ducked low, dodging the punch before delivering a powerful uppercut that connected with the boy's chin. The impact echoed through the air, and I watched as the boy's head snapped back violently. He crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

The remaining two boys exchanged nervous glances, realizing they were in over their heads. But they weren't done yet. One lunged at from his back he used a crowbar to hit his head but to the boy's surprise the crowbar bent

"HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE" the boy said being afraid, Kyle was not even hurt. This guy is full of surprises.

. Kyle looked at him and gave him a evil smile. With incredible strength, he lifted the boy off his feet and slammed him onto the pavement, hearing a sickening crunch as he felt something give beneath him.

Now only one remained—the leader of this ragtag group. He was visibly shaken but still attempted to put on a brave face. "You think you can take all of us?" he spat defiantly.

Kyle's eyes narrowed as he stepped forward with an intimidating calmness. "You should have thought twice before picking a fight," he replied coolly.

The leader charged in desperation, swinging wildly. But Kyle was faster; he sidestepped again and grabbed the boy by the neck with one hand. In one swift motion, he twisted sharply, feeling bone snap beneath his grip as he brought the boy down with a sickening thud.

With all four boys incapacitated around him—two groaning on the ground clutching their arms, one lying still with an unnatural angle to his neck, and the last struggling to breathe—Kyle turned back to me. His breathing was steady; there was no sign of exertion on his face despite what had just happened.

But his victory wasn't complete yet; there was still a lingering threat in their eyes that needed addressing. As I watched in awe and disbelief, Kyle moved toward the last conscious boy who had been too frightened to get up.

With a swift motion that seemed almost too fast for human eyes to follow, Kyle struck at the boy's face—just enough force to blind him temporarily without causing permanent damage. The boy screamed and stumbled back into darkness as agony washed over him.

As silence settled around us like a heavy fog, Kyle turned toward me with an intense gaze that softened slightly when our eyes met. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly.

My heart raced not just from fear but from admiration for what I had just witnessed—the strength and skill that lay hidden beneath his calm exterior.

"I… I'm fine," I stammered, unsure how to process everything that had just happened.

Kyle nodded slowly but kept his distance for now; he knew this moment needed time to sink in for both of us.

As the dust settled from the brutal confrontation, Kyle's focus shifted. His eyes locked onto Bianca, who stood frozen in shock at the chaos that had just unfolded. He walked toward her with an unsettling calmness, a predatory glint in his gaze that sent a shiver down my spine.

"What are you doing?" I called out, but my voice barely broke through the tension in the air.

Before I could react, Kyle reached Bianca and grabbed her by the throat, lifting her off the ground with an overwhelming strength. Her eyes widened in fear as she struggled to breathe, flailing helplessly against his grip.

"Stop!" I shouted, rushing forward, but Kyle's gaze remained fixed on Bianca. It was as if he was lost in a moment of darkness.

Just then, the sharp sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway. The principal's voice boomed, "What is going on here?"

Kyle's grip loosened just as he heard the authoritative call. With a swift motion, he dropped Bianca to the floor. She gasped for air, coughing violently as she tried to regain her composure.

"Everyone to my office!" the principal commanded again, his tone leaving no room for disobedience. The sound of students murmuring and shuffling filled the hall as they began to gather their things and head toward the office.

I rushed to Bianca's side, helping her sit up as she struggled to catch her breath. "Are you okay?" I asked anxiously.

"DON'T TOUCH ME," she shouted between coughs, her eyes darting between me and Kyle, who stood still as a statue.

The principal approached Kyle with a stern expression. "And you—what on earth were you thinking?" he demanded.

Kyle's demeanor shifted slightly; he straightened up and cast a glance back at me before responding. "They were provoking me," he said coolly, almost dismissively.

"Provoking you? That doesn't justify violence!" the principal replied sharply.

As we all began moving toward the office, I couldn't shake off the unease settling in my stomach. What had just happened? And why did Kyle look so unfazed by it all?

Inside the principal's office, we were met with an atmosphere thick with tension. The principal directed us to take our seats while he prepared to address each of us individually about what had transpired.

I glanced at Kyle; his expression was unreadable. Did he realize how close he had come to crossing a line?

Bianca shot him a glare filled with both fear and anger. "You could have really hurt me," she said hoarsely.

Kyle merely shrugged, his gaze unwavering. "It was just a warning."

The principal cleared his throat and began his inquiries about what had happened outside—how it escalated so quickly and why it had come to this point at all.

As we sat there waiting for our fates to be decided, I couldn't help but feel that this was only the beginning of something much more complicated than any of us had anticipated.

"Now tell me , what really happened"

"Bianca is the Master mind in this, she planned everything"I said

"I was the victim I was the being strangled not you"she said rudely .

(I won't lie but I think she's making a point wait a minute why am I thinking this)

"All of you should bring your parents including you ruby"the principal said harshly.
