Trees flashed past me, animals, boulders, flowers. All of it.
I dashed across the village and down the hill where a woodland began. Tall elegant pine trees closing in on each other the deeper you went, sky being clouded by branches, specks of sun flickering on the ground.
The sound of the creek drew near the further I came, I could hear the rush of the water crashing against the rocks. Forest drawing in closer around, as chattering surfaced up ahead.
The caves chattering. I was close.
I ran toward the sound, nearing closer and closer, diving into the depths of the forest as the sun slowly rose from behind the surrounding mountains. I began counting down the time I had left, 10, 50 metres, 9, 45 metres, 8, 39, 7, 33 metres, 6, 25, 5, 18, 4, 11, 3, 56metres, 2, 1 metre, 1. Safe. I made it. By a mere second, I had survived.
"Orchid! oh my god, you could've died! Don't ever do that again," Elana shouted while I caught my breath. "It's fine, even if I were trapped out there I would have survived. Qid does it all the time, I'm also fast and crafty, there's no way I would die after a singular measly day," I bluffed. "Well you arn't Qid are you? It's not like you have 'powers' like us. You're just a normal kid."
Powers. An unatrual ability only a select few recive. Elana was a sorcerer, someone who could cast spells through incantations, where Stella was a seer, and a powerful one at that. She could see glimpses of the future with visions, guiding the village safely through the seasons, mother was also a seer. Yet I, I'm just a nobody with an amazing family that I could never compare too.
"Are you even listening to me!?" I heard Elana shout once more. Snapping out of my daydreams, I looked back up at Elana, then I looked at everyone else in the room. They were all staring at me.
"While you weren't paying attention we all agreed that you would do the water run today." Me? The water run!? I shook my head in disbelief, I had to do tonights most dangerous task, and beat Elanas record? I nearly just died! "Sinse you just risked your life being careless, we thoughf you wouldn't mind saving us the trouble of risking our lives." "Fine," I said while mumbling insults.
I placed down the light stoppers and picked up two metal pails in their place, then I continued too walk toward the entrance to an endless hole of black. I readied my self and thought, 7 minutes, you just have to be back by 7 minutes and you win.
I waited and waited, silence. 3, 2, 1, a loud bash. I ran, into the depths of the emptiness.
