"Mom! I'm back from picking the crops." Shouted out a female voice, her voice tomboyish and bratty. A girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes, a small stature.

A tall woman with long brown hair and blue eyes stood up and turned from where she had been bending over.

"Liaus, welcome back," she had a small smile on her face. "Did you get the items I asked for?" I looked over at her and then spoke, my blue eyes meeting hers.

"I did, the old man down the rode kept nagging me like usual," I groaned, recalling how the guy attempted to capture my attention to talk about some useless things.

"Oh honey, he's just looking out for you. After all he probably sees his late daughter in you… you both had this sort of… stand-offish attitude…" My mother took the bag of ingredients and began washing the men in a bucket filled with water from the hose. I remained silent, not bothering to comment further, taking a knife and sitting beside her, taking the vegetables and beginning to cut them.

The evening came fairly fast, we've already eaten and now we're preparing for bed.

"Goodnight Ali."

"Good night Liaus."

I blew out the torch, snuggling in my floor bed. The small house was left illuminated by the moonlight that shone through the window. Laying down I watched Ali sleeping. Even though Ali was human and I was an elf, she has always been my only parent. My mother, my caretaker, my protector. I love her, my mom.

When I opened my eyes back up I was being shook, feeling slim fingers rock my body back and forth. Trying to open my eyes, everything in a blur.

"—————, Lia—! Liaus! Wake up the house is on fire."

I felt Ali's arms lift my body upwards and into her arms running outside. By the time I opened my eyes, I could see the chaos from all over. The entire town was on fire, our house, the neighbor down the road, the old man's. I could hear the screams of people and the sickening sounds of blades slicing through people. The disgustingly sloshing sound in my ears echoed. The crunch of breaking bones, followed by excruciating screams.

Ali had ran far through the town, with urgency. And then suddenly a blade had pierced through her stomach, Collapsing to the ground she had dropped me.

"Ugh!" she crouched down holding her stomach as the coughed up blood from on top of me. Splattering on my face. The individual who had stabbed her looked from behind, pulling out his blade. He began slashing at her back. I watched frozen in horror, the more blood she coughed out onto my face the harder it got to make sense of the situation. My eyes were wide as I looked into her eyes with fear, my vision slowly getting blurred.

She closed her eyes for a moment, giving me a smile.

"Run…"

The last words I ever heard from her, before she could collapse on to me I scrambled to move from underneath her and began running. Looking back one last time at her now dead body, looking at her go limp. The life, her soul, her essence leaving her body… I wanted to scream. I wanted to shout. Don't go… Don't leave me!

But I ran. I ran just like she told me too, wherever my feet had taken me.

I arrived at the old man's house which was made out of stone, compared to the other houses inflammable. As I walked in and shut the door, the sight I saw was disturbing.

Words can't describe what I saw. The old man… he was… mutilated… beyond recognition… the gore, blood, guts…

"Bleugh-" was the sound I made as the food from earlier was evicted from within. As my stomach emptied itself, I held my neck in my arms, my body down on the floor. I felt weak everywhere, my throat hurt. Everything hurts. My eyes began tearing up, sobbing quietly.

Why…? Why…? Why. Why. Why! Why! Why!

Why?

These were the words that rang in my head, my eyes wide as if they were out of my skull. Hyperventilating heavily and shakily, my vision slowed fading into black. Black dots in my vision slowly spreading until there was only darkness.
