Keifer's POV
I don't understand!
"H-how is this happening?" I asked Mr. Ryder.
I have millions—No! Billions of money that I never even knew about.
What I don't understand is that even my grandparents, who have long been dead, left me an inheritance. I wasn't even born into this world yet, and there was already money set aside for me.
"Let's just say that your grandparents didn't trust your dad. So, they took a gamble on their future grandchild." He explained to me.
"B-but... I... I..."
"Speechless? Then let me explain everything to you."
I looked at him as he took all the papers I was holding. He sat across from me.
"100% of your grandparents' assets and liabilities are all under your name. Your mother's assets and liabilities are also under your name and your brothers'..." He glanced at me briefly before continuing. "...Your dad has no right to any of this, nor to your properties or your brothers' as well."
My mind refused to accept everything he was saying. They left all of this to me?
"But..." He said, making me pause. "...You'll have full access to this."
He raised the papers. "...Once you reach the legal age of 18."
My head ached. This was an enormous amount of money. Where would I even use this? I wasn't even sure if I could handle such a massive amount.
"Keifer?" He called me.
"S-sorry... I just... I can't believe this," I said, brushing my hair with my hands. "...I don't know if I can manage this."
I looked at the other papers on the table. I froze when I saw what was written there.
"W-what is this?! A company? What company?! Why is this also under my name?!" I asked in shock.
What is this?! I can't take this anymore... I felt like my brain was about to explode from all this information.
"It looks like you're not ready for this," Mr. Ryder said as he organized the papers. "...I knew you were too young, but your mother insisted on this."
"My mom?"
He looked at me seriously. "Your mom was a friend of mine. Four years ago, on the exact date of your brother's birth—Keiren—she called me to discuss her last will and testament."
She did that? But why?
"...She was worried about you and your brothers. She knew that your dad would never take care of you once he got what he wanted."
That made me feel even worse.
All this time, Mom knew what might happen. Her life was at risk, and where was I? Outside the house, avoiding them.
I was useless. A worthless son. I let this happen to her, and in the end, I wasn't even able to help her.
"Mom..." I whispered.
He handed me a small piece of paper. "Call me when you're ready."
"Where is your father?!" I asked Keigan angrily.
"H-he's in his room. He has someone with him."
I held my temples. I knew what he meant. I walked quickly to the guest room, where he usually brought his visitors.
I didn't bother knocking and immediately opened the door. As expected, I caught them in an inappropriate scene.
"Keifer! Don't you know how to knock?!" he snapped at me.
The woman with him quickly covered herself with the blanket.
I raised an eyebrow. She looks so young. She barely looked eighteen—or even younger.
"You! Do you have no respect?! Mom hasn't even been buried for a month!" I shouted at him in anger.
"So? She's dead. She won't come back to life no matter what you do!"
Yeah! She's dead because of you!
I slammed the door shut in frustration. I ended up punching the wall in anger.
Why did Mom have to be the one taken from us? Why couldn't it have been him instead?!
It was infuriating! I couldn't take this anymore! I stormed into my room. I threw some of my things across the floor.
Why did he have to be my father?!
I collapsed on the floor beside my bed. I ran my hands through my hair multiple times in frustration.
Mom! I don't know what to do!
Then I remembered something—or should I say, someone. I immediately searched for the calling card he had left me. It wasn't hard to find since it was just on my study table. I quickly dialed the number.
["Hello?"] He answered from the other line.
"Mr. Ryder... It's me, Keifer."
["I guess you're ready."]
I'm not fvcking ready!
This is even more complicated than I thought. I feel like I'm going insane. I'm a teenager, but because of this information, I feel like I'm in my 30s.
"...Do you understand?" Mr. Ryder asked.
"Hmmm... Yes?"
Mr. Ryder let out a deep sigh. "Let's start all over again."
He gathered all the papers on the table, even the ones I was holding. He placed one document in front of me.
"This is your total asset and liabilities."
He then placed another document down.
"...This is the monthly earnings of Watson Enterprise. Even if you don't work, the company's profits will still go to you."
I understand this part now. Even if I do nothing, the company's income will still come to me.
He placed another document in front of me.
"This is the only amount you will receive every month since you don't have full access yet."
"Okay... Like an allowance," I said to him.
He nodded. "You can consider it as an allowance."
I looked at the last document he put down. My eyes widened.
Consider this an allowance? Is this a joke?
Who gets an allowance of 200k every month?!
I also checked Keigan and Keiren's amounts. Theirs were smaller, probably because they were younger.
But why was their money also coming to me?
"Why is their money still going to me?"
"Because they are under your care. Unless you plan to have someone else take care of your siblings, we will send the money directly to them instead."
I understand.
He explained many other things to me. I also learned that even though everything was under my name, there was still a chance that that monster could gain access to it—especially Keigan and Keiren's money.
But that wasn't the only thing I was concerned about.
"Do I have the right to kick someone out of this house?"
He looked at me, confused. "Yes... This house is under your name."
"Even him?"
He knew exactly who I was referring to.
I couldn't stand living in the same house as him any longer.
He disrespected my mom. Not even 40 days have passed, and he already brought another woman here.
"You do know that you're not of legal age yet. Under the law, you need a guardian," he explained.
I knew he was going to say that.
From the moment I called him, I had already been thinking about it.
"What if, in Mom's last will, she granted custody to someone else?"
"That wasn't in your mom's last will."
I looked at him seriously. "Are you sure?"
He sat up straight and cleared his throat. "I don't like what you're thinking."
"Nowadays, anything can be faked," I said, running my hand over the paper. "...Name it after one of my mom's most trusted maids or butlers."
"Keifer... You know—"
"I know. I also know that we could get sued." I smirked. "...But what's the use of the law when you have money?"
No one dared to question my mom's death because that monster had a lot of money.
He played dirty. So will I.
"...I need to fight back. If I can't beat him physically, I'll do it another way."
A last will and testament holds more power—it can even override certain laws.
Mr. Ryder took a deep breath. I knew that he understood my mom's suffering. He was my only hope. The only one who could help me now.
"As you wish, Mr. Watson." he answered.
This wasn't the method I wanted to use. But I had to.
For Mom. And for my siblings.
Kuya!" Keiren shouted.
I had just come home from school. I was confused when he ran toward me, crying.
"What happened?"
"Dad! He left... He took Keigan with him!"
I looked at one of the maids. "Is that true?!"
"Y-yes, sir... He took all of Keigan's things with him," he answered while looking down.
"And none of you did anything?!" I asked angrily.
I grabbed my hair in frustration. I immediately took out my phone and called Mr. Ryder.
["Keifer?"]
"He has Keigan! He took Keigan from me!" I shouted in frustration.
["Relax... Maybe they just went out of town or on a business trip."]
"No! You don't understand. He already knows he won't get anything from the inheritance! He kidnapped my brother!"
I was on the verge of tears as I spoke. I knew he had a plan. He had to.
What if he did something to Keigan?
["Take a deep breath, Keifer. I'm on my way."] He said before ending the call.
I glared at the maids and butlers.
"YOU'RE ALL USELESS! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!"
I turned to Keiren, who was still crying. I approached him and pulled him into a hug.
When will he stop making our lives miserable?
