Chapter 6 - Kill, Chase

The blade itself was a marvel of craftsmanship, forged from a metal not of this world. It shimmered with a shifting hue—deep sapphire one moment, molten gold the next—resembling the scales of a dragon basking in the sun.

Along its fuller, a faint glow pulsed in time with an unseen heartbeat, as though the soul of a slumbering beast lay trapped within.

At times, it almost seemed as if the blade exhaled a fine mist, like the breath of a dragon stirred from its eternal rest.

This was no ordinary sword and it deserved a suitable wielder. Deciding that the said wielder was himself, he made his way towards Reign across the battlefield. He mercilessly cut down an enemy soldier in his way, giving no quarter at all.

His bodyguards kept pace a few steps away, watching their charge like a hawk. If he got so much as a scratch their liege lord was bound to have them for supper.

Reign felt someone watching him, it was a quirk he'd gained from the pure essence sharpening and strengthening his mental energy. He traced the sensation and saw a kid in armor making his way towards him.

It occurred to him that his state of mind was strange; here he was, on a battlefield, with people spilling each other's guts across the land. Yet he felt somehow unbothered, as if that was concern for another time.

The young man arrived before Reign and ordered arrogantly, " Give me that sword tierless peasant, you don't deserve to wield such a fine weapon. Only a noble such as me is worthy of it"

Reign gawked at him in astonishment, just how far up their ass did someone's head have to be for them to say such a thing.

The kid seeing that Reign didn't respond got angry, he didn't bother with more words. He brandished his sword and swung it vigorously towards Reign, it's metallic edge glowing with a cold glow.

Reign instinctively reacted and swung his own, brandishing it and expecting a clash and splatter of sparks.

Reigns sword cleaved through the opponents sword as if through mud, it followed its trajectory and hit the young man, bisecting him in half amid his stunned eyes.

His torso dropped to the ground in a macabre display, and Reign's nonchalant state of mind shattered. That had just been a kid he murdered.

The young man' guards were still shell shocked, stunned and in disbelief at the sudden switch of affairs.

Unprecedented fear and horror rose up in the hearts of the young man's guards. They knew they were done for, they could only kill or capture Reign to seek for a chance of survival for their families. They approached Reign with red eyes and deadly intent.

The voice in his head urged, "You have to run now. They are second tier warriors. You won't be able to resist them even with that sword. You don't have the combat skills necessary. Run, now."

Reign agreed with her with all his heart, those guys looked fierce as hell, yet a fierce and proud feeling rose in him, telling him that fleeing was contemptuous. Reign stopped and turned. The voice in his head panicked, "STOP! They are too strong for you."

Reign ignored her, the first guard arrived before Reign at an extremely fast speed, Reign swung his sword fiercely, he half expected the guard to block the sword, however the guard had seen what had happened to the young man, he effortlessly evaded the swing and swung his leg at Reign.

Reign's body shot out like a cannon ball. He flew through the air in a nice arc and finally collided with another soldier, interrupting their fight as they all sprawled to the ground. Reign felt as if he had been hit by a truck, he wanted to call 911 and have the guy arrested.

He came to his senses and heard the voice in his head, "wake up, wake up if you don't want to die."

Reign woke up groggily and looked at the soldier menacingly approaching him, the soldier looked a bit surprised he was still alive.

He drew his sword, seemingly ready to make sure. Reign stumbled up and heard the voice again.

Reign didn't even stop to listen twice, he turned around and sped off, almost stumbling at the sheer speed he burst out with. The voice in his head urged him, "The dragon essence strengthened your body to the first tier, now run if you don't want your head on a pike."

The image spurred him on and he didn't even look behind. He discovered the use of heightened mental strength at the moment as he adjusted to his strength quickly and calculated the best exit from the battlefield.

His strengthened senses and instincts weaved through fighting soldiers, feeling the stares of the two soldiers behind him. They too burst with amazing speed, faster than him as the pursued.

They tried to shout that he be caught but in the chaos of the battlefield no one paid attention. Reign weaved frantically through the battlefield, avoiding catching any attention at all.

He discovered something amazing; he seeded to have a certain faint deterrence in him. It matched that of the dragon.

The soldiers would automatically not choose him to fight as they fought.

The voice in his head popped up, "its dragon might, you don't have a lot of it but at this juncture the soldiers' survival instinct is heightened in the thick of war. They won't know why but as long as you don't attack them they will instinctively not attack you. "

This advantage gave Reign a head start as he finally made his way out of the battlefield, he looked around and spotted a forest in the distance.

"Make for the forest" the voice urged.

He didn't look back and made for the woods. He totally agreed with the voice, he didn't fancy his chances in open terrain against those guys.

Suddenly, he heard the voice in his head "duck" he didn't even think and dropped to the ground.

A whoosh flew over his head before striking the ground with a thud, an arrow poked out of the ground, trembling with the remnant force.
