Chapter 57: Oh, Mortal!
Lin Yuan had discovered the effect of the Hurricane skill some time ago when he and Captain America went to travel to Rabbit's home.
After they came out of the mountain city from eating hotpot that day, both were sweating profusely. Startled, T'Challa slammed on the brakes, but the spark moved too fast for him to dodge. He had to rely on the high defense of his Black Panther suit and take the hit directly!
The spark struck T'Challa, causing him to fall to the ground with a thud.
He touched the spot where he was hit but felt nothing.
"Brother, what does your spell do?"
"I don't know! Maybe 'a single spark can start a prairie fire'?" Lin Yuan quoted, unsure.
The three of them squatted down, carefully observing the spark on the ground.
It continued to burn for a full ten minutes before finally disappearing, leaving only a small scorch mark.
"That's it?" T'Challa and Shuri asked Lin Yuan, bewildered.
Lin Yuan smiled awkwardly. "It seems so!"
Damn this system! The skill description was literally true again this time! But seeing how long the spark lasted, at least he wouldn't have to worry about starting a fire when surviving in the wild. He could even use it to light cigarettes! Lin Yuan tried desperately to console himself.
T'Challa was speechless looking at this bizarre spell. Some of his brother's abilities were incredibly powerful, while others seemed utterly useless!
"Brother, do you have any other magic? Why don't you try them all? Let me see what else you can do!"
"There are still a few I haven't tested! Let's try them!"
Lin Yuan cast Thorns and Nature's Grasp on himself. Since both were passively triggered effects, he decided to test them together. Then he said to T'Challa, "Brother, hit me and see!"
"Oh? You're asking for it! Then here I come!" T'Challa looked excited and threw a punch!
The moment his fist connected with Lin Yuan, it was blocked by a Wild Shield (another passive skill, apparently), and Lin Yuan felt nothing.
However, T'Challa felt a sharp pain in his fist, as if he had punched a board covered in needles! Then, his feet felt constricted as vines erupted from the ground, wrapping around him again – the effect of Nature's Grasp. Since he wasn't running this time, he didn't fall, but he was entangled and unable to move.
"Hiss— my fist hurts so much! I can feel the stinging pain even through the battle suit! My hand isn't injured, but it really hurts!" T'Challa took off his glove and examined his fist. There was no sign of injury.
"Well," Lin Yuan began to summarize, "that's called Thorns. It seems the effect is purely to cause pain to whoever attacks me. The harder the enemy hits, the more intense the pain. And it seems to ignore armor! The downside is that it only causes pain, no actual damage."
Overall, it seemed like a decent auxiliary skill. Severe pain could deter enemies or make them hesitate. But it probably has no effect on enemies with extremely strong willpower or those who don't feel pain!
Of the skills available to him now, only Starfall remained untested. This skill should have been Lin Yuan's coolest ability, but after being modified by the system, it could probably only be used to impress girls.

The three returned to the laboratory. Shuri set up the equipment and signaled Lin Yuan to begin.
Lin Yuan pointed towards the ceiling (simulating the sky) and cast Starfall.
Three seconds later, the first meteor streaked across the lab's sky-simulating display, followed by a second, a third... until ten meteors had passed.
Shuri looked at the instrument readings, surprised. "Brother Lin Yuan, there were ten meteors in total. They all appeared out of thin air, flew across the observation field, and then disappeared just as suddenly! The light we saw wasn't from atmospheric friction; it came from the meteors themselves. They're energy bodies, not solid objects!"
Lin Yuan suddenly became curious and asked Shuri, "What if a plane happened to fly through their path? Would it be shot down?"
"No," Shuri replied, "because airplanes can't fly that high. These meteors manifested and traveled through what corresponds to outer space altitudes. If you were talking about a satellite, perhaps."
"Alas~" Lin Yuan sighed internally. I guess the system changed the flight path of the Starfall meteors! Just as I thought, it can only be used to impress girls! What a waste of such a cool skill, damn system!
Lin Yuan felt disheartened that such a potentially awesome skill had been altered.
"Alright, alright, no more playing! That's enough testing for today!"
"Brother Lin Yuan, are these all your magic spells?" Shuri asked, still curious.
"Besides the ones you've seen, I also have healing spells and support spells!"
"I want to see! I want to see!" Shuri tugged at Lin Yuan's arm, pleading playfully.

Lin Yuan puffed out his chest slightly, explaining, "This is called Rejuvenation. It continuously restores your physical stamina, mental energy, and vitality, and can quickly heal minor wounds!"
"Wow, this spell is amazing!" Shuri's eyes lit up. "If I had this spell active every day, could I stay up all night inventing things?"
Lin Yuan felt imaginary black lines forming on his forehead. How could her first thought be exactly the same as Tony's? Is this a common trait among geniuses? It's terrifying that their first reaction to such a beneficial skill is figuring out how to use it for overtime!
Lin Yuan gently knocked Shuri on the head.
"You won't grow taller if you don't sleep! This spell isn't meant for pulling all-nighters working."
Shuri pouted, holding her head, and looked at Lin Yuan with a wronged expression. "Then tell me, what is this spell used for?"
"Of course," Lin Yuan declared, his eyes gleaming, "it's used for playing video games all night long!"
Shuri stared at him for a moment, then sighed dramatically.
"Oh... mortal!"
