The classroom of U.A. High's Class 1-A was buzzing with energy. After surviving Aizawa's brutal Quirk Apprehension Test, most students were relieved. Some were excited.
Reiji?
He was bored.
Sitting at his desk, his golden eyes lazily scanned the room. The excitement of the entrance exam had faded. The test was a joke—just a way to filter out those who couldn't handle the pressure. But now, things needed to escalate.
He wasn't here to play the role of a student.
He was here to see just how far he could push himself.
And judging by the way Aizawa walked into the room, he had a feeling today would be more interesting.
"Alright, brats. Change into your hero costumes. We're heading to the battle training grounds."
The room erupted with excitement.
Reiji smirked. Finally.
The U.A. Training Grounds—or as it was officially called, Ground Beta—was an enormous urban combat simulation area. Skyscrapers, abandoned vehicles, and shattered roads stretched as far as the eye could see.
Reiji adjusted the custom black-and-red hero suit he had designed. It wasn't flashy—no capes, no unnecessary details. Just functionality.
The others were still admiring their costumes when All Might arrived, his booming voice echoing through the battlefield.
"I AM HERE! AS YOUR INSTRUCTOR!"
The students cheered. Even Reiji had to admit, the guy's presence was something else.
All Might clapped his hands together. "Today, you'll be divided into teams for battle training!"
The rules were simple:
Teams of two would be heroes.Another team of two would be villains, defending a "nuclear device."If the heroes captured the device or defeated the villains, they won.
Reiji's smirk widened. A real combat test. This was more like it.
The teams were announced.
His name was called.
"Kurobane Reiji and Yaoyorozu Momo—villain team."
Reiji raised an eyebrow. His partner was the wealthy, strategic prodigy. Interesting.
Then he heard his opponents' names.
"Midoriya Izuku and Uraraka Ochaco—hero team."
Reiji's golden eyes narrowed slightly.
Deku?
This would be fun.
Inside the simulated villain hideout, Reiji leaned against the wall, arms crossed, as Momo paced back and forth.
She was clearly trying to form a strategy, her expression focused.
"We have the advantage of terrain," she said. "If we—"
Reiji cut her off. "None of that matters."
Momo stopped, blinking at him. "Excuse me?"
Reiji pushed off the wall and stretched his arms. "They're coming in here expecting a normal battle. They're trained to fight heroes." His golden eyes glowed faintly. "I don't fight like a hero."
Momo frowned. "You mean…?"
Reiji cracked his knuckles. "I fight to break them."
Momo tensed. He wasn't joking.
But before she could respond, a loud crash echoed through the halls.
They were here.
Reiji grinned.
"Let's begin."
Deku and Uraraka moved cautiously through the building.
Uraraka whispered, "Should we go for the bomb first?"
Deku shook his head. "Reiji isn't the type to let us just walk in and take it. He's… different."
Uraraka frowned. "What do you mean?"
Deku clenched his fists. "I mean… he fights like a villain."
The moment the words left his mouth, a wave of Hellfire exploded from the hallway.
Uraraka screamed as they barely dodged the flames.
From the smoke, a voice echoed like a predator toying with its prey.
"Too slow, Midoriya."
Before Deku could react, a burning kunai shot forward, wrapping around his wrist.
Reiji yanked him forward.
Deku was ripped off his feet, crashing into a wall.
Uraraka gasped. "Deku!"
Reiji emerged from the smoke, eyes glowing like a demon in the dark.
He tilted his head, smirking. "Come on, 'hero.' Get up."
Deku groaned, struggling to his feet. He had barely seen the attack.
Reiji was fast. Too fast.
Uraraka charged in, activating her Zero Gravity. She touched a pile of debris and launched it toward him.
Reiji didn't even flinch.
With a flick of his wrist, the Hellfire intensified, burning through the debris before it could reach him.
Uraraka's eyes widened. "That's—"
Before she could finish, Reiji vanished.
She barely had time to react before he reappeared directly behind her.
A whisper in her ear. "Checkmate."
She turned—too late.
A sharp tap on her shoulder.
Reiji smirked. "You're out."
She blinked. A tag. He had physically touched her, eliminating her from the match without hurting her.
He was playing with them.
Deku gritted his teeth. Damn it.
Reiji turned toward him, cracking his knuckles. "Your turn, Midoriya."
Deku's heart pounded. He had seen what Reiji could do. His mind was screaming at him to retreat.
But he forced himself to stand his ground.
He clenched his fists. "I won't lose."
Reiji grinned. "Good."
In a burst of flames and lightning, they clashed.
Outside, All Might and Aizawa watched the battle unfold.
Aizawa's eyes were sharp. "That kid isn't fighting like a student. He's reading them, toying with them."
All Might frowned. "I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing."
Aizawa's voice was cold. "If he ever goes rogue… he's going to be a nightmare."
They continued watching as Deku and Reiji's battle reached its climax.
This was only the beginning.
End of Chapter 5.
