Everything was strange. One moment, she was asleep, and the next, she was in the Apocalypse. There were zombies and monsters everywhere. She had awakened from fright when a zombie had started to chase her. When she went to sleep again she was at the same place as before. The only difference was that the zombie that chased her wasn't there.
"Hello," She shouted, wishing someone could hear her. Her brown eyes started to tear up."Is anyone here"? She shouted again. Her expression was that of fright, rightfully so.
"Who are you?" a voice came from behind her. She swiftly turned. The one before her was a senior from her school and also her best friend's brother.
"Daniel?"
"Amaya, what are you doing here?"
"I don't know. I went to sleep, and when I woke up, I was here."
"Come with me."
They started walking. Amaya recognized the house they entered as Daniella's—her best friend's— house. Daniel went downstairs as Amaya followed him.
The basement looked like a real-life base. There was a mini fridge and some canned food.
"This first happened to me like a month ago. As far as I understand, it's either the future or an alternate universe. I made the basement into a base in our world, and when I went to sleep, it was here."
"But how- I mean how is this even possible? Are there other people like us?"
"I have no explanation for this. One day, it suddenly happened. After my first dream, I subtly asked my friends and family. They didn't know anything. And as far as I know, there isn't anyone here who is like us."
"So there are other humans?"
"When I first came here, there was a man. I tried to ask him where I was and why the world looked like this. But he died before I could get an answer."
"This is so... weird. I don't know what to say or do."
"I was just like you when I first came here. I was so scared I didn't sleep for a day. When I fell asleep, I understood there was no way for me to escape. So I learned to survive."
"That's why you suddenly joined the track team!"
"Yes, I learned to outrun the zombies. But the other beings— the monsters— they are different. There are different kinds of them. I almost died because of a monster."
"But I'm bad at running. I'm bad at everything."
"Don't be disheartened, Amaya. My sister talks highly of you. And the little girl I remember never gives up, no matter the situation."
"Well, none of my skills will work on an apocalypse."
"This is your first time here. It's normal that you are scared- Amaya!" Daniel shouted suddenly as he threw himself at Amaya to shield her from the monster.
The monster struck Daniel's stomach. Amaya's hair was covered in blood. Mixing blonde and red.
"Amaya, run!" Daniel shouted.
And that was the last thing she heard before waking up.
'I'm at home again! But what about Daniel? Did he- No, I'm sure he is okay. He should be okay.'
Ding
Amaya looked at her phone. She had a new friend request.
'It's Daniel! That means he is okay. Amaya quickly accepted the friend request.
Brother Daniel
You okay?
I'm good
Is dying impossible there?
Don't know
Maybe only bruises heal
I'm sorry
Don't be
Wasn't your fault
I should have been more careful
It's okay
It wasn't anyone's fault.
I'm happy that there is someone I can finally talk with.
Are you still scared?
Always, but now I have a friend. I'm not all alone in a place I don't know.
Let's talk about this in school
