Chapter 2 - Family

The maid walked out of the bathroom, she stood at the door, "Young Master Astral, your bath is ready. Your father said to inform you that your sword lessons will begin today, so you should get ready quick," she said, looking at him on the ground.

Astral heard her words, he remembered those exact words. Today was the day, the day that he began sword training, the day that set him up for life, the day he learned that his path was the path of the sword.

He got up from the floor and walked to the bed, he took off his clothes and neatly placed them on the bed. The maid saw this and quickly rushed to his side.

"Young master, please stop," she said, grabbing his hands and pulling him away from the clothes. "It is not your job to do that, please, let me do it for you," she said.

"Mabel, it's fine, it's just a little bit of folding, I can handle it," he said and pried his hands from her grasp. He folded the clothes neatly and walked to the bathroom in his underwear.

He remembered that she also bathed him daily, so as he reached the door, he stopped and turned back. "Mabel, I'll be bathing myself from today, you can rest," he said.

"Young master, that's not possible, your father, the Baron, has asked that I take care of you. Please," she replied.

"I'll speak to my father later, and I'll inform him of this, so don't worry," he said and walked in, shutting the door behind him.

The wooden bath was already filled with steamy warm water, so he slipped out of his underwear and into the water. The warm water immediately calmed his body, he let out a deep breath as he sunk deeper into it.

He couldn't recall when last he had a bath like this. The path of becoming a sword master was gritty and painful, he was never at a period where he could relax, and even after all that sacrifice, it took him close to thirty years to become a sword master.

He grabbed the yellow bar of soap that was at the edge of the bath and used it to wash his body inside the bath, making sure he got into every crevice of his body.

When he was done, he stood up. There was a bucket of water beside the bath, so he picked it up and doused himself in it, washing off any excess soap.

He got out of the bath, taking out the rough towel that was hanging inside the bathroom. He cleaned himself and used it around his waist to cover his body.

He walked out of the bathroom feeling completely refreshed and energized. Mabel had already arranged clothes for him to wear as soon as he stepped out: a simple white shirt, black trousers, and black boots.

He changed into the clothes very quickly and headed out of the room while Mabel stayed behind to clean. Immediately she stepped out of the door, he felt nervous.

It had been years since he had seen his family—his two elder brothers, and his little sister, his father and his mother as well.

He took in a deep breath and walked down the hallway leading to the stairs. He went down the flight of stairs and immediately headed into the dining room.

As he got to the door, he froze. His eyes rested on all his family, seated at the table and eating. It felt too good to be true, his emotions immediately began welling up.

His father, a middle-aged man with jet-black hair and a neatly trimmed beard, turned to look at Astral as he stood there. "What's the good up, Astral? Come and eat, you begin practice today," his father said, and then turned his attention back to the food he was eating.

Astral snapped back to reality after his father spoke. He walked into the dining room, first to his father, he gave a firm ninety-degree bow to his father as a sign of respect. His father was a little shocked but tried to not show it.

After greeting his father, he walked to the other end of the table and bowed to his mother. She was a stunning beauty, one that would pull attention wherever she went.

Astral got his crimson hair and eyes from her, and so did his little sister. The rest of his siblings took after their father.

"What's got you acting so courteous today, Astral?" his mother said with a chuckle.

"I'm just happy I'm here today," Astral said, and walked over to his seat. He pulled his chair out and sat immediately opposite his eldest brother, Maxwell Von Miller.

Maxwell was a sixteen-year-old young man, the heir to the family. He was smart, good-looking, and very well-mannered. He was also the only person in the family that had an affinity to become a mage.

But he couldn't go to any academy because he had to take over the family soon, and had to be around their father.

The second son was Ronald Von Miller. He was a free-spirited person, he was fourteen, two years younger than Maxwell. He did what he wanted when he wanted, though that character always landed him in trouble, yet he never stopped.

He was average with the sword, though he never wanted to pursue the sword.

Astral felt his heart ache as he recalled all this about his family, and also the fact that he had a hand in the falling apart of the family several years after his father died.

'This time will be different,' he thought to himself, picking up the fork to dig in.

As he ate, the screen came up again all of a sudden with a lot of information.
