Cherreads

Chapter 6 - Chapter 6.

"Is it okay if Nyx sleeps in the small room tonight then?"Ellis packed out the utility room in his tutor's quarters and inclined his head to question Nyx, who was sitting off to the side fiddling with his collection of spell books.Nyx looked around the room and he gave a strangely insulted look, "Ellis, what is this?A cell?"He touched the academy's uniform dark gray bedding and plain dark wood single bed,, rummaged through the empty closet in the corner, picked up the stationery and magic lamps on the table and put them down again, one by one, read the books on the shelves one by one by name and then threw them on the floor, and finally sat down on the bed disheveled."Are you misunderstanding something?I'm not an academic graduate student at your college. This looks like it's for some curmudgeonly, knowledge-obsessed, goofy nerd!"

Ellis glanced at him faintly, "So what do you want?"

"Velvet draperies, carved furniture, a soft king-sized bed, the most popular new magical lamps from the Abyss, an ornate fireplace and lots and lots of my little collection and other things that are important to me."Nyx glumly turned on and off the magic lamp on the table.

Ellis listened and replied with a grimace, "Then adjust yourself and will be fine for the night."He reached down and rescued the poor magic lamp from Nyx's hands, placing it in a farther away place, and the books on the floor that Nyx had thrown everywhere he used levitation magic on, sifting through one by one to find the ones suitable for a demon of Nyx's age to read.

Nyx ran to Ellis's room, Ellis's room was simple in style, with intricate magical arrays and astrological charts hanging on the walls, the books in the room were nicely arranged according to their categories on large shelves that stood a full side, there was a display case packed with various implements, ancient books and notes for research. The bed of black carved wood was covered with dark blue velvet bedding, clean and tidy, with little personal adornment; the whole room was more like a calm and restrained study. The only place with a hint of life was probably the chair by the window, with a cup of tea spiked with thermostatic magic sitting on the coffee table next to it.

"Wow, Ellis, your room has a huge bay window!"Nyx uphanded the table and chairs, planning on setting up a small, soft couch.

"Don't mess with my stuff, Nyx."Ellis came back from taking care of the matter at hand to see Nyx reaching out his guilty hand to try and move his furniture.

"I said, Ellis."Nyx withdrew his hand resentfully and replaced it with that smile that was definitely not good, "You don't want to work until you die, do you?Ellis, are you really not going to get depressed? If this room of yours smelled any more like rust, I'd think I'd been put in some kind of magical prison, and you'd be the cellmate who'd been put in there because you were too obsessed with knowledge, and I'd be the jailer who'd come to keep an eye on you, doesn't that seem like it to you?"

"That's because you don't understand the beauty of simplicity."Ellis pulled the copy of the Key to the Abyss out of his bag, carefully placed it back on the shelf, and started working on his room again.

Nyx bristled and snorted, "No, it's barren beauty."With that said, he wagged his tail in triumph and walked away.

The next morning, the early morning sun poured in through the window, its golden glow reflecting off the parchment and half-open scrolls on the desk.Ellis sat in the living room with a cup of fresh tea, his gaze falling on the closed bedroom door with a bemused expression.

Nyx had tossed and turned until I don't know what time last night, and was probably still in bed refusing to get up.Ellis walked to the door and knocked, "Nyx is up."No one answered.Ellis waited a few seconds and knocked again, "I don't want to say it a second time."However, there was still no response from the room.He pushed open the bedroom door directly after a moment of silence and went to wake up a certain sleepy demon, his footsteps faltered slightly, the room that was so simple last night had been completely drastically changed, which should be preferred by a trend-following new-age demon, right?Obsidian carved furniture, dark red velvet draperies, translucent black gauze curtains gently draped down, the walls are embedded with magic lamps unique to the Abyss, emitting an eerie dark purple light. The bed was impossibly large, soft and luxurious, Nyx's entire demon almost sunk into it, the black and gold satin bedding and pile of pillows almost burying him, revealing only strands of long black hair and a pale wrist curled slightly under the corner of the covers. The wall, originally empty, was replaced with a mural depicting a view of the abyss, with flames and darkness intertwined. On the desk, next to the originally neatly arranged magic tome was an additional ornately decorated dark golden candlestick, emitting a mysterious blue flame.

"Nyx, get up."Ellis stood in the doorway and scanned the room, silent for a few seconds before slowly approaching the bed.
