Chapter 14 - CHAPTER 14

014: "Everything Listens" Calm Mind Method

For individuals descended from psychic lineages or those confident in their own latent potential it is often unclear whether their abilities are dominant or recessive. This uncertainty motivates many to engage in training, both before and after the critical age of 10, in hopes of awakening their psychic gifts.

Those with dominant psychic genes tend to awaken their abilities naturally, often prior to their tenth birthday. In contrast, individuals with recessive potential must work consciously to stimulate and unlock their powers.

According to scholarly notes from the Kanto Psychic Association an academic and regulatory body with historical ties to Saffron Gym and the Pokémon League there are three primary methods recognized for cultivating Psychic ability:

1. Physical Conditioning: Enhancing the body improves aura flow and boosts the receptivity of the nervous system, a method often employed by apprentices at Saffron Gym.

2. Mental Discipline (Calm Mind): Refining mental strength through meditation, mindfulness, and inner focus, modeled after classical meditative techniques passed down by Sabrina and her predecessors.

3. Extreme Emotional Stimuli: Triggering latent abilities through strong external events grief, terror, euphoria, desperation sometimes used by wartime mediums or in dangerous field missions.

Ash, who still lacked concrete methods to activate the Aura and Perdition energies coursing through him, felt a spark of hope after reviewing these findings.

"Hm… the third method relies on intense external stimulation basically trauma." His lips curled in dry amusement. "That's a hard pass. I'm trying to awaken Psychic abilities, not open the Kaleidoscope Sharingan."

He shifted his focus to the other two methods highlighted on his screen.

"The first and second are more practical… physical exercise and Calm Mind meditation. Much safer, much more sustainable."

Still seated at his desk, Ash moved his mouse to circle the two options in a digital notebook he'd created. The electric whir of his PC filled the room as he pulled up additional search queries: 'Physical conditioning for preadolescent psychic development', 'Calm Mind protocols for children under 10', and 'Kanto Psychic Association guidelines on youth meditation'.

In the Pokémon world, science was extraordinarily advanced sometimes even surpassing Ash's previous world. While space exploration remained underdeveloped due to legendary Pokémon like Rayquaza and Deoxys occupying the stratosphere and exosphere, other branches like bioengineering, psychology, and internet science had progressed dramatically.

Especially in the fields of human enhancement and Pokémon partnership science, the Kanto-League regions boasted well-funded research centers, most notably Silph Co. and Saffron's Psychic Association.

Ash opened a blank document and began aggregating advice from multiple forums: Saffron Gym alumni blogs, peer-reviewed PDFs hosted on the League's open-data portal, and crowd-sourced databases of Calm Mind techniques used by psychics and aura users alike.

After several hours of compiling and filtering the most credible strategies, he constructed a structured routine tailored to his six-year-old physique and mental capacity.

"This'll do for now," he muttered, nodding in satisfaction. "I'll tweak the routine if anything feels off later."

With this dual-track plan early Pokémon bonding and psychic awakening now crystal clear in his mind, Ash finally felt like he had direction.

"Tomorrow, I'll start with the physical exercise regimen. But today… I can try Calm Mind meditation right here."

He hung a wooden Noctowl sign on the outside of his bedroom door, hand-painted with the word "Napping" to ward off interruptions from Delia. Then, locking the door gently, Ash sat cross-legged on his bed, removed his shoes, and initiated his first Calm Mind trial.

From his research, he'd learned that Calm Mind methods varied in structure, but shared core principles: relaxation, emotional release, mental stillness, and sensory expansion.

One method, in particular, caught his eye.

It was frequently cited in ancient Saffron scrolls, now digitized by the Association, and still practiced by Sabrina's inner circle of elite acolytes: "The Everything Listens" Method.

Ash remembered the instructions clearly:

> "Empty the mind. Let thoughts fall like rain into the soil. Then… listen not with ears, but with being. Everything speaks. Everything listens."

He inhaled slowly, closed his eyes, and allowed himself to exhale fully letting go of the stray thoughts clinging to his awareness.

Ash was no ordinary six-year-old. Though still in a child's body, his soul bore the weight of a past life along with the maturity, concentration, and introspection that came with it.

Almost immediately, his mind slipped into a serene stillness. His breath softened. His heartbeat slowed. His thoughts scattered like leaves across a still lake.

Unknowingly, Ash had achieved something extraordinary.

Within the internal logs of the Psychic Association, there existed a comparative metric for initial Calm Mind access latency a record of how long it took a first-time practitioner to enter the state of mental clarity necessary for psychic cultivation.

For six-year-olds, the fastest recorded entry time was seven minutes. That record belonged to a child from Saffron City one of Sabrina's earliest disciples and a direct descendant of psychic nobility.

Ash shattered that record without even knowing it achieving the Calm Mind Contest Condition in under sixty seconds.

If a League psychic were present, they would have been stunned into silence.

But Ash, already deep in samadhi, remained unaware of the milestone he'd just set.

The meditation pulled his consciousness inward, then outward.

The world faded into gray. Time softened. His awareness hovered in a mental space that resembled the one he'd drifted through during the limbo between his two lives before his rebirth into this world.

Unlike the cold, dark void of that earlier state, this Calm Mind space was warm and luminous filled with ambient gray light. His soul, hovering mid-air in that psychic dimension, glowed like a sun.

Despite the reduction in physical sensory input, his spiritual senses sharpened. No matter how wild or tangential his thoughts became, he found he could maintain the Calm Mind state without disruption.

He felt caged and liberated at once. His body, still and dormant on the bed, became a shell. His true awareness floated, radiant and free.

But Ash remained focused on his goal.

He recalled the next phase of the "Everything Listens" method: reach beyond the inner self listen to the world.

With a slow, mental pivot, he extended his perception.

At first, there was silence.

Then, faintly he heard the wind. It brushed the grass in the yard, whistled through the white-painted shutters, stirred the petals of Delia's garden flowers. Each creak of wood, each flutter of leaf, sang in delicate harmony.

It was beautiful.

And Ash understood: the world truly did speak.

All he had to do… was listen.
