The new year of 2010 has just begun in Kyushu, Japan. The city of Kitakyushu is especially bright and bustling today with all the fireworks and the overcrowd of people in the shrines to get the first blessing of the year.
January 1st, can be enticing for many but still remain bittersweet for some. Standing in front of god, dropping a coin into saisen box, wishing for her days to be filled with joy, it all started with her. She was only 13, dreaming of what every 13 year old would dream of, being a pop star. Nothing else mattered, because her love for being loved was so strong. But the truth was that she wasn't the pretty one, nor did she have the voice for it. She was the definition of helpless, being bullied for who she was, or rather who she wanted to be, as she saw it. Her only light in the dark was her childhood best friend, Tamaki, who was round and chubby with glasses, a textbook definition of a loser. He would always stay by her side when she got bullied, always stay to treat her wounds, both physically and mentally.
It was any other day in their middle school, both her and Tamaki were on their way to their classrooms, when the bulletin board caught her eye. The usually dull board now had a colorful poster with the letters "singing competition" written on it. Her eyes gleamed up, she instantly knew what she had to do. An opportunity had presented itself in front of her, all she had to do was just grab it.
