Chapter 1 - The Beginning

His name is Liam.

He is your average teenager.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

He was just two days away from finishing high school and taking his final exam.

This exam determines his future.

If he passes, he can enter a college and build a good foundation for a future job.

And if he gets high remarks, he might be able to enter the top universities as well.

This was just wishful thinking though, "I knew I was never a genius, I was just smart enough to get by", Liam thought.

He didn't let this affect him though.

He has been up for the past 3 days and nights studying for this exam.

"I will pass this exam mother, Ill do it for you", Liam said to himself. He then got up from his chair and made his way towards his bed.

He was too exhausted to even think before he slowly faded away into a deep sleep.

The next day.

It was a regular day.

Liam got up, went to school, came home.

Tomorrow was the exams and his nerves were at a all time high.

But what Liam saw when he arrived home.

It was anything but regular.

His entire house was engulfed in flames, including the nearby houses as well.

His ears starting to ring as he was frozen in disbelief.

Liam was quickly brought back to his senses after he heard a scream.

It came from inside the house.

And this voice, It was all too familiar.

It was his mothers.

Liam instantly ran towards the house and called.

"Mother" "Mother, where are you".

The heat started to intensify as he neared the engulfed house.

Each breath started to become more and more difficult.

Nonetheless he continued his search for his mother, she was all Liam had left.

Liam's father left before he was born, this forced his mother to be worked to the bone taking on multiple jobs just to support them.

He was not going to lose her.

Then as Liam was caught up in his thought he saw a small opening in the wood.

Through this opening he can barely see into the house.

Just as he was about to look through the opening he felt a cold chill run down his spine, his hairs started to stick up, Liam was afraid.

At the time he didn't know what these emotions were and he just dismissed it as a side effect of adrenaline, But that was far from the truth.

As Liam looked through, he saw it.

He seen his mother.

She was dead.

Her lifeless body didn't move a muscle.

Liam didn't believe it.

He didn't want to believe it.

He then looked up and saw something completely unnatural.

There was something standing above her lifeless body.

It was a creature.

This creature was hunching and crouching down but he could tell it was at least 4 meters tall, it had a slim build, Its skin as red as the fire surrounding it.

Liam's eyes continued up.

He then realized he wasn't the only one analyzing.

When he met the creatures dark, lifeless eyes, his whole entire body locked up, it was as if he was a deer Infront of a pair of headlights, just waiting for the inevitable.

Liam then heard the same familiar voice.

It said, "Help, Help me".

This was his mothers voice.

But how, Her lifeless body is right Infront of him.

He then realized the voice wasn't coming from his mother but instead it was the creature.

When Liam realized this his entire brain shut off .

Currently his entire body was running on sheer instinct.

It was just a couple seconds, but it was a eternity for Liam.

He felt every negative emotion imaginable.

He felt anger, sadness. regret, anxiety.

But a single emotion dwarfed the rest.

He felt fear.

His entire existence felt like it was being consumed by this fear.

He couldn't think, He couldn't move.

Just as Liam was about to be consumed by his emotions he heard a single heavy step on the weak wooden floor.

"CREAK"

The creature was moving towards him, one slow step after another.

"CREAK,CREAK,CREAK"

Liam driven by instinct took a single step back.

That is all.

That is all he could do.

he felt so utterly helpless and pathetic.

The creature punched through the wood the was between Liam and it.

Only then could Liam see the creatures true form.

He knew he had no chance against such a creature.

Liam accepted his death.

But then by a sudden stroke of luck, the creature stopped moving and turned its gaze elsewhere.

Liam knew this chance would never come again, He had to capitalize off this sudden distraction.

But he couldn't.

No matter how hard he tried.

He could not move an inch.

Then there was a sudden explosion.

Liam's sight was instantly consumed by bright flames, but weirdly, he didn't feel a single ounce of pain.

Liam's vision then went pitch black.

He could finally think.

His first thought was, "I am alive".

Liam went to feel his face for injury's but something weird happened.

His arms didn't move, They couldn't move.

He then tried to stand but something else happened.

His legs wouldn't move.

He then realized he couldn't feel anything.

Liam gathered all the strength left in his body for a last attempt of survival.

He opened a single eyelid.

Then he saw it.

He saw the sky.

Not the bright blue sky covered with white clouds he is used to seeing, He saw something completely different.

The sky was red.

In place of the beautiful white clouds were these giant purple swirls, they looked like small tornados, or maybe even portals.

"Portals?" Liam thought to himself, what am i living in a novel.

Then again that creature he saw.

It was not from Earth.

Liam then refocused his sights on the sky.

Hundreds of entity's poured out of these portals.

It was only then Liam realized he hasn't survived, he has just prolonged his death.

Liam's vision started to darken once again.

He knew these were his final moment, so he had one last thought.

"Why?".

"Why am i so powerless".

[You have died]
