Nate
We got home around the time the overcast of the sun was clearly visible. I paid the taxi man handsomely as he drove with precision like a speed racer to get us home in a nick of time. His eyes widened in joy as he counted the dollar notes.
"Thank You so much Sir, have a nice day." He slightly bowed as we exited the car. I nodded in approval as he zoomed off. I held Evie's luggage as she glanced around the neighbourhood with a puzzled look. I signaled her to enter into the house as I saw Nate opening the door.
"Welcome to my home, this is Detective Rhymes." I said to Evie. She respectfully bowed to him as we entered. Rhyme shot a concerned glare to me, I gestured to him there was no setback.
Her eyes widened in joy when she glanced at Lila on the living room sofa. They both ran to each other and embraced themselves in an emotional hug. Tears streamed down their eyes to their cheeks. I let out a relaxed sigh as a wave of joy washed over me. Both Rhymes and I nodded in sync as we were happy to help the ladies before it was too late.
Several minutes later, they both sat down on the sofa. They cleaned the tears on their cheeks.
"I'm so glad you're safe Evie, I already thought the worst-" Lila paused while glancing at Evie. They both held each other hands with a triumph expression.
"We need to bring Victor down, but before we can do that, we need to know the information you stole from him." Lila asked in gentle tone. Evie scanned the room as if to make sure we were the only ones in the house before she spilled out the secret.
" I stumbled on a highly encrypted document that was hidden in his secured network. At first I thought it was scandalous pictures..but after I finally cracked it open, I found confidential information about his company and other illegal activities. I downloaded what I can before I was logged out. The download was small but enough to get a huge portion of his business operations like hidden shipping routes, shell accounts and so on-"
Lila eye's widened hearing the content of the document sent to her. "That's why Victor wants us gone." Evie nodded in approval.
Rhymes also listening to their conversation chimed in. "With this, we have more than enough to put Victor away for a very long time." His tone was enthusiastic. However, I felt a thud on my throat.
"This evidence was acquired illegally, plus for someone like him. This is too easy. You have to take everything that matters to him first: money, power, influence. To completely isolate him, then you put him away. It will be a fate worse than death to him." I curved my lips slightly. The air in the room became tensed as the remaining people turned pale in grim.
I could feel their piercing gaze, so I decided to head out. " I have to report back to Victor's people or they will get suspicious. I should be back by nightfall." I said in a stern voice as I stepped out of the house.
I arrived at the back club, later in the evening. They all looked at me with puzzled look and confused expressions. I remained unfazed as I strode over to Dom.
"Well..is it done?" He asked in a panic state. They all remained anxious as they got no feedback on the targets mission.
"Yes, I took care of the lady and fed her to the fishes." I twisted my lips like a maniac. Dom shuddered but he snapped back quickly.
"What of the men you went it?"
"After I was finished, we all scattered ourselves to avoid getting caught." I replied with a confident tone. Dom gazed at me deeply like he was scanning for the truth in my eyes. He let out a weary sigh as he slumped on the leather seat.
"You're the only one who came back from all the missions that were done today." Dom replied in a depleted tone.
I stylishly grinned at the corner of my lips. The joy of watching Dom shrouded in anguish was too irresistible to ignore.
