IRIS
A moan slipped out of me as I became conscious and tried to move my body. The action caused me a great deal of pain as another moan escaped my lips.
Adjusting my eyes to the sudden brightness of the room, I looked around wondering where the hell I was. My throat felt tight and dry, as if I had been out for days.
"Easy, your body is still very much fragile." A soothing motherly voice said, causing me to twist my head in her direction.
I didn't recognize the woman in front of me which caused me to ask the same question that has been bugging me the minute I became conscious. "Where am I?" I asked her, hoping she would provide me with an answer.
"Oh, You're in Shadows-wolf's pack. Our Alpha found you on the beach shore and brought you back here, I'm the pack healer and you're currently in the pack guest room receiving treatment." She explained which was more than I hoped for.
"Shadows-wolf's pack?" I repeated the name, it didn't ring any bells. I closed my eyes, having a quick flash back of the events that probably led me here. "Has anyone reported me missing yet?" I asked, trying to mask my fear.
Talking was costing me another great deal of pain, my throat felt restricted with each syllable of words I pronounced. "Can I get a glass of water please? And how long was I out?"
"Four days? Five?" She pushed my hand away when I tried to take the cup from her. Instead she fed it to me. "You were in a very bad shape when our Alpha brought you in. He has been waiting for you to awaken, I better go inform him now." She dropped the glass cup and went away.
Once she left, I closed my eyes, allowing the tears to streamed down my face. How could the two people I love most end up betraying me? Despite signing my inheritance to them, and promising to let me live, they still went ahead to try and kill me.
How did I survive? I shivered recalling the pain of being stabbed multiple times by Annika. Alec did nothing to stop her, he stood there and watched as I collapsed on the floor. Whatever happened next, I had no memories of it until now.
I quickly wiped my tears away when I heard the door open, the healer was back but this time with a tall dark gentleman. His catlike eyes caught my attention as he approached the bed.
He looked at me as if I were a puzzle before turning toward the healer, he made some hand gestures I didn't quite understand.
"Just a few minutes ago." She said, "This is Alpha Xander, the Alpha of Shadow-wolf pack, he's the one who saved you."
I tried to sit up but my body protested. "Thank you so much, I owe you my life." Which was true even though I didn't know what to do with that life now.
I didn't want to think about it for now but one thing was certain, I thought as anger flared within me. I'll get every penny they took from me and make them pay for what they did to me! I don't know how yet but that was my intention.
The Alpha lingered, listening to the healer explain my current health and stuff. I might have been a fool once but I wasn't foolish enough to think he cared that much.
He probably wants me out of his house and pack, which I understood. As soon as I was healed enough I was getting the hell out of here and finding ways to get back at the people who took everything from me.
It took weeks for me to make a recovery and I wasn't talking about a full recovery because the healer told me that would take about a month. But my body was healing and that was good news.
She had tried to get closer to me these past few weeks but I kept her at arm length, I was done with people! No matter how kind they seem because looks can be deceiving, Alec taught me that and I'd die again before trusting another human being.
The healer had informed me that their Alpha wished to have a word with me. Something I had been anticipating for a while, plus I was strong enough to move around on my own for a few minutes before my muscles grow weak and I need help again.
I sat down at the edge of the bed, eagerly looking at the door. I didn't have to wait long because soon, he walked through the door, a man trailing behind him.
I masked the fear inside me as he sat opposite me, even sitting down he was huge, far bigger than me. Making me feel smaller than I already do, I hated that.
Feeling small was a sign of helplessness and I refused to feel that way even though my current condition wasn't making it easy for me. "Thank you again, for your hospitality." I will pay you back one day, I wanted to add.
"Hello, I'm Tint. Here, to translate for Alpha." I didn't understand what she meant until the Alpha started to sign.
"I'm glad you're feeling okay, according to what madam Hilda told me you're expected to make a full recovery within a month." Tint, the translator interprets the signs, it was then I finally understood.
"I wished it was sooner, so I can get out of your hair." I responded so he knows I'm not planning to overstay my welcome.
He signs and Tint quote. "Now that you are well enough, I have some questions I would like you to answer, starting from who are you? My best spy was only able to come up with a fraction of information about you."
I liked the fact that he didn't try to hide it from me. I would have done the same thing, maybe not before but now. "You were the one who saved me, what do you think my story is?"
Tint quotes him again after he finished signing. "You are hesitant." and then he launched into a story of his sister who died in the very similar situation I was in, only that I was lucky to have been alive.
By the time he finished, my eyes were wide with shock. "Alpha Alec of Crescent Moon Pack? He was my mate as well, he and my half sister did that to me." I declared, my hesitation forgotten.
He tensed at my declaration, his eyes narrowing to a slit in a very frightening manner. He didn't sign anything but the expression on his face told me more than words could.
Tint suddenly left but returned with a pen and paper, he left again leaving us alone. For about five minutes, he wrote on the paper and once he was done, he handed it to me and stood up, walking toward the window.
The note read; "I'm sorry for what happened to you, although my sister was not as lucky as you. I knew there was more to her death but I had no proof. I think the moon goddess sent you to my pack for a purpose because I want the man responsible for my sister's death to pay."
I also stood up. "You're right about that, in order to make sure I get my inheritance back, to make sure no woman becomes his victim again...I will make him pay as well." I told him.
He looked at me, visibly shocked by my response. He probably didn't think I would agree right away but then he had no idea the dept of anger and pain coursing through me.
"But how do you suggest we do that? Alec is a powerful man, an Alpha for that matter it will take more to bring him down and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes."
He took the paper from me and wrote something down again before passing it to me.
It says and I quote. "To bring an Alpha down, you need the help of another Alpha... and a Luna…"
