Chapter 5 - Despair

"BOOM!!" There was another explosion. Ada and Otis ran out of the building and saw the wall with a big hole in one side where monsters kept pouring in. There were mummies, zombies, creatures with overly pale skin and elongated limbs, and more.

"How can this be? It's daytime!" Ada exclaimed. The monsters seen in this area could not walk under the sun and could only do so in the night. At least that's what Otis thought until now.

"Ada, let's go." Otis began charging at the oncoming flow of monsters. They were currently engaged in a battle with the soldiers. He saw Alina and Yul in the distance; they were petrified. "Alina, Kid, hide somewhere safe!" Otis screamed.

He made sure that he was heard by looking at both of them scrambling away to hide. Otis arrived at the battlefield and immediately began chanting. Finishing his chant, a huge lightning bolt tore through the skies and landed on the swarm of monsters.

They were completely destroyed, but the swarm outside seemed to never end. He saw Sultan appear beside him and hold the defenses along with everyone else. "Sultan, do you know what caused the explosion?" he quickly asked.

A grim expression formed on Sultan's face. "No, I didn't see what caused it, but I'm sure there's a mana user among the monsters."

'This is bad,' Otis thought with a frown forming on his face. It only deepened once he heard an explosion go off behind him.

"BOOM!"

"Sultan, defend this position; I'm going to take a look at what's causing the explosions." While he ran towards the explosion, a serious expression formed on Ada. She followed Otis's movements with her gaze before keeping an eye on the situation.

Otis's eyes widened as he was running. The explosion came from where Alina had run off to. He quickened his pace, and when he arrived, he saw the destroyed wall. Monsters started to rapidly pour in.

The guards stationed in that area moved fast to defend the area. Otis joined them and fought the monsters while keeping an eye open in case he saw the mana user.

"Quick, hurry up! Let's go inside my house." Yul held Alina's hand and dragged her to his home. Once they entered, he closed the door and went to his room, which was on the second floor.

"Will we be okay?" Alina asked with worry.

"Don't worry, my room is the safest place in here." Though he was trying to act tough, Alina could see that he was slightly trembling from fear. They remained in silence. The battle outside didn't seem to be quieting down; it only became stronger and louder.

"Taking a little look outside won't hurt, right?" Yul stepped closer to the window, ignoring Alina's pleas to not do it. He took hold of the window covers and set them aside just enough to see the situation.

The monsters seemed to have grown in number from last time. He hid his face from Alina so she couldn't see his worry. Looking down at the outside of his house, he froze. There was a tall, long-limbed, bald-headed white monster looking at him.

It was standing on both feet and was looking at him without emotion. Yul couldn't move a single muscle from fear. Alina noticed this, and curiosity took hold of her. Looking outside, she saw the monster; it gave them a toothless grin with a perverted expression.

Panic coursed through their bodies as they saw the tall figure entering the house effortlessly.

Yul closed the window cover before whispering in a hurry, "Quickly! Go under the bed." Both of them rapidly hid under it. The sound of footsteps inside the house was freaking them out. They had traversed through the bottom floor and could now be heard slowly going up the stairs.

Each step seemed deliberate and loud enough for both of them to hear. It was as if the monster wanted to cause as much fear as possible.

Yul looked at Alina; she had closed her eyes and joined her hands together. Murmurs were repeatedly heard coming out of her mouth. Yul touched her shoulder, and she immediately stopped but continued in her mind.

They could both now feel that the monster was just outside their door. "Creak!" It opened slowly, causing a high-pitched creak that freaked him out. Stepping inside the room, the monster's eyes looked directly under the bed before smiling widely.

It started looking everywhere except there, taking its time to scare the kids. They held their breath as the monster stepped out of the room. Some hope was starting to become present in their hearts.

This hope shattered when, at lightning-fast speeds, the monster closed the distance between the door and the bed and took hold of Yul's arm.

"Aahhh!" He thrashed around in a desperate attempt to free himself from its grasp.

It was useless; the monster didn't even flinch and only looked at Yul with his iconic perverted smile. It opened its mouth wider than normal before raising Yul high into the air with his elongated limbs.

"Bam!" Its smile quickly froze. Alina had thrown a small chair at him. Throwing the kid to the side, it lunged at Alina before quickly piercing her stomach with its sharp claws.

"Drip," blood flowed heavily from her wound, and she fell to the floor without strength. She couldn't move or talk; the only thing she could do was pray. The monster then changed his focus to the screaming kid.

"Alina!" He screamed, charging at the monster; his weak assault was stopped instantly by him. Grabbing the kid again, it twisted his leg until it broke and the bones were showing in weird angles.

"Aghh!!" Yul screamed before his leg was violently ripped off, causing pleasure to the monster. Just as he fainted from shock, his expression darkened. Opening his mouth widely, it brought Yul closer to him; the distance shortened by the second.

"Crack!" The window leading to the room was broken, and inside came a glowing golden spear that embedded itself in the monster's chest. Otis entered through the window, and when he saw the situation, extreme rage overcame his person.

He chanted and made a golden sword that hovered above him. It swiftly decapitated the monster before he tended to both of them. Noticing that he couldn't do anything to save them, despair filled his heart.

"Alina!" He crouched beside her, and tears started spilling from his eyes. "I'm so sorry," he kept repeating like a broken recorder. He could see that the life in her eyes was diminishing. Just then, he remembered something.

He placed his hands together and pleaded to the skies, "Almighty creator Varan, please save these kids, I beg of you." He closed his eyes and fervently prayed for salvation.

His cries of pain were heard by the creator.

A golden light pierced the heavens and landed on both kids; their injuries healed at an exceptional pace. Yul gained consciousness while Alina started standing up. Otis hugged her tightly, and she did the same.

"I-I thought I was going to die," she said with tears spilling from her eyes. "You're safe now," he whispered before letting the girl calm down in his embrace. While hugging him, she saw Yul, who was starting to stand up. She broke the hug with Otis and rushed to his side.

A big frown appeared on Otis's face. 'I should've never asked for this kid to be healed.' He angrily thought. After making sure that Yul was okay, she asked, "How did you know that we needed help?"

With a smile on his face, Otis said, "I heard the voice of the creator talking to me; it said that you were in trouble." Hearing this, the girl quickly thanked the creator with overwhelming gratitude.

Otis looked outside the window at Ada; thoughts started forming in his head. She hadn't helped since the beginning of the battle, even though the situation didn't look favorable for them. All he saw her do was look around the place at the explosions.

"Wait a second… Please don't tell me that it's true." Alina and Yul looked at him with confusion. He stared at Ada until he noticed her turning her eyes to a point in the wall; at the next second, that part exploded, and she looked away.

"Why?"
