Chapter 5 - Chapter 005: Shirogane’s Worry—Pretty Girls Are a Distraction!

"Take your seats according to your assigned names. I am your homeroom teacher, Sakagami."

"At this school, you will stay in the same class until you graduate, and I will be your homeroom teacher until the end of your third year. My name is Sakagami Suma."

"This is my phone number. You can save it in your contacts."

In the first-year Class C classroom, a tall, thin male teacher with glasses introduced himself.

His face was well-defined, but his skin wasn't great. Some acne scars made him look older than he probably was.

Still, he gave off the impression of a strict and elite teacher.

Then, he quickly wrote a series of numbers on the board: 13455454XX. The students followed his instructions and saved the number.

Shirogane also picked up his phone.

After returning from the gymnasium, he had arrived at Class C. Each desk had a name tag, so everyone was able to find their seats without trouble.

A few minutes later, the homeroom teacher walked in.

Reading straight from the guidelines, he said,

"This school has a special system. Until you graduate, all students are required to live on campus…"

"On the first of each month, the school will deposit private points into your student ID account. These points can be used to buy anything on campus, so you can think of them as money… 1 private point is equal to 1 yen."

"The prices on campus are almost the same as those outside the school."

The students, already holding their phones, quickly opened the student ID app after hearing the teacher's explanation.

They checked their personal information.

Their name, student number, class, and then—

A special section.

Private Account.

And next to it, a number—100,000.

That's the 100,000 private points Sensei mentioned!

Each private point is equal to one yen, and since prices inside and outside the school are almost the same, that means everyone actually has 100,000 yen for living expenses!

100,000 yen!

For students who just moved up from middle school, their monthly allowance was only around 1,000 to 2,000 yen. But now, all of a sudden, it's 100,000! How could they not be excited?

"Surprised by the huge amount of points? This school evaluates students based on their abilities. The fact that you're here means you have significant value."

Sakagami-sensei continued.

But by now, the students were already caught up in the excitement of receiving so many points. Hardly anyone in the class was still paying close attention to what he was saying.

[The students around you are starting to get excited, but inside, you're feeling uneasy.]

[It's not just the student council president—now even the homeroom teacher is emphasizing that this is a school where strength matters above all else.]

[At this moment, you start looking around the classroom.]

[You notice the girl sitting in front of you. She turns her head and—look—she seems to be smiling a little. She's really cute.]

"..." Shirogane.

Shirogane had gotten used to hearing the narration in his head.

But right now, he had indeed put down his phone. Though the phone wasn't turned off—it was recording. He had opened the voice recorder and started recording Sakagami-sensei's speech.

Since there were important details in the student council president's speech, there might be key points in the homeroom teacher's speech as well.

Were all four homeroom teachers giving similar speeches?

He decided to record everything just in case.

The girl sitting in front of him seemed to sense something, turning her head slightly before giving him a polite smile.

Even though it was just a casual smile, Shirogane couldn't deny that this girl—Shiina Hiyori—who had the same silver hair as his little sister, was undeniably cute.

So that meant…

Why was the girl sitting in front of him the same Shiina he had met at the gym?

Judging by looks alone, Shiina seemed to be the prettiest girl in the class.

And even though she was sitting at a bit of a distance, he could still catch a faint, pleasant scent from her.

This was troubling.

Yeah.

For Shirogane, this was definitely a problem.

Because.

Wouldn't this make it easier for him to get distracted in class and affect his studies?

For someone who wanted to focus on learning, this was a huge challenge!

Of course.

Now wasn't the time to be worrying about that.

Shirogane had already confirmed that he was bound to this strange "narration system" that fed him commentary from time to time. Some parts of the narration seemed to be trying to provoke him, but others contained useful information.

So, what had just been revealed?

It said he started observing the classroom.

Hmm.

That meant there was something in the classroom worth paying attention to.

Shirogane noticed there were two cameras in the room—one at the front and one at the back.

And the indicator lights on them were on, meaning they were actively recording.

But why? It wasn't an exam—so why were the cameras running?

The homeroom period quickly came to an end. Sakagami-sensei assigned a few students to bring in textbooks. After they were distributed, he dismissed the class for the day.

Starting tomorrow, regular lessons would begin.

The school provided dorms for students. They could use their student ID to collect their dorm room key from the dorm manager on the first floor.

Students quickly got moving.

There were quite a few choices to make.

Since it was a boarding school, finding their dorm—the place they'd be living for the next three years—was important.

But the 100,000 points on their student ID, which was equal to 100,000 yen, was even more tempting. Instead of checking out their dorms, many students were more interested in confirming if the points could really be used as money. If they could, it would be a huge deal.

Most students headed in one of these two directions.

Shirogane Miyuki stood up.

"Shirogane-kun."

He noticed that Shiina Hiyori, the girl sitting in front of him, was also getting up.

"Are you taking your books back to the dorm?" Shirogane asked.

He saw that Shiina had placed five books on her desk.

The school required students to take nine different courses. Each subject had at least one textbook, sometimes even a matching workbook, which meant two books per subject.

Altogether, that was more than ten books—easily over ten kilograms.

For some reason, Shirogane suddenly thought of the girl he met at the infirmary. The one with the cane… no, Sakayanagi.

With this many books, carrying them back to the dorm must be tough for her.

"I really like reading," Shiina said. "Even though these are just textbooks, I'd still like to take them back to my room."

"But before that, I think I'll explore the school a bit."

"Getting 100,000 points all of a sudden makes me feel uneasy."

Uneasy, huh?

Yeah, that made sense.

For an average high schooler, 100,000 points was a huge amount of money.

For Miyuki, it was even more than that—it was two months' worth of rent for his family.

If the 100,000 points on the student ID really worked like 100,000 yen, then he already had an idea.

If he could save most of it and send it back home, that would be amazing.
