"Mommy, don't worry. If you lose, I'll pay for you. And if Daddy wins, I'll kiss him on your behalf." As she was fretting, Dean leaned over and whispered softly into her ear, so only the two of them could hear.
Claire couldn't help but laugh, his idea wasn't half bad. Not wanting to dampen his spirits, she reluctantly agreed.
Dean was in high spirits, already looking much better. He shouted excitedly, "Daddy, Auntie, since you're both grown-ups and I'm just a kid, you have to listen to me today, no cheating allowed!"
"Alright," Claire agreed cheerfully.
Gilbert narrowed his eyes, watching the pair, one big, one small. He had no idea what kind of game they were playing, but it sure felt like they were scheming something against him.
Claire deliberately teased, "What's wrong, Mr. Watson? Afraid of losing?"
Gilbert's face darkened. A woman and a five-year-old? Why would he be afraid of losing to them?
"Fine."
Gilbert went to the hospital shop and came back with a deck of cards.
