Chapter 5 - Ch 5 - Preparation

Kai silently sat on the pure white pristine floor while his eyes drifted from one direction to another, almost as if they were looking for something.

"Found it." His eyes sparkled with a sense of accomplishment while a confident smile took over his face.

Since the very first time he had been forcefully teleported to this place—Kai felt as if this was a completely different space that extended to infinity.

No matter how much he walked or ran, he never saw anything like an end to this realm.

All it looked like was an infinitely expanded realm made of nothing but something white and pristine.

Yet every time he'd take any chance to rest, he'd feel as if he had never walked an inch in the first place.

Thus, he decided to see for himself.

What was true, and what was not?

For 2 hours, Kai silently sat in one place and did not move at all. He kept scanning through the entire vicinity, and finally, after what seemed like an eternity—he saw something that wasn't white.

He saw various lines running through the 'infinite' space in a rather systematic manner. The lines connected to each other, forming a giant rectangular shape.

Yet a single question remained unsolved in his mind.

"If the space isn't infinite... How does it keep going on even if I try to walk for hours?" Kai couldn't help but ponder about it again and again.

*Ding!*

Just as he was wondering about it, he heard a soft, alerting sound that instantly piqued his attention.

He raised his eyes as a System window materialized right in front of him.

---

[Congratulations! You have successfully met the hidden conditions and became the First to have ever done so.]

[Special Rewards are being generated...]

[Congratulations! You have obtained a Training Weapon Selection Box]

[Congratulations! You have obtained a "Unique" Grade Item - Subspace (1-item)]

---

The rewards that were given to him were astounding, Yet his face grew dull and blank.

"Hidden quests and unique rewards? Why?" Kai muttered to himself, his voice barely above a whisper.

Kai was not used to seeing such a thing happening.

Because even in the game—The Seven Calamities—The system sure existed but never gave out anything as such rewards.

It was a fair and square gaming system where growth could only be achieved with one's own sheer efforts.

Yet obtaining something like a Unique Grade item, felt like cheating to him.

"But I can't throw myself in the face of death just for the sake of some false dignity."

A deep, reluctant sigh escaped his lips.

He looked at the system window once again, but his gaze had changed.

His eyes had become much more calm and decisive.

"System, can you tell me about the rewards I just obtained?" He asked out aloud, his voice echoing through the seemingly infinite space.

The content of the system window changed immediately.

---

[Training Weapon Selection Box]

[Grade - Special]

[Description - A Special Reward item that gives the user a weapon of their choice to train before the tutorial begins.]

***

[Subspace (1 Item)]

[Grade - Unique]

[Description - A soul-bound Unique item that gives its user a small subspace of their own. *Cannot be traded*]

[Limit - 1 use left.]

---

Kai raised his eyebrow as he fell into a deep contemplation.

'For a special grade, hidden quest reward to be something related to getting used to combat... Now I'm 100% sure... My life is at risk...' His expression became tensed just at the mere mention of such a thought.

At this point, it wasn't about just being cool but about his survival.

"System, how much time is left?" He asked bluntly.

---

[Time Remaining - 7 hours.]

---

The content of the screen changed almost instantly.

"7 hours huh... Fine... Give me the Weapon Selection Box." His voice became more direct and authoritative. His face, his eyes... Everything had changed within a matter of seconds.

Just as words came out of his mouth, a wave of light pulsed through the system window from its center.

A small cubical wooden box materialized above the screen out of thin air and began to hover while the content on the System window changed again.

---

[State your desired weapons.]

---

Kai thought for a while, and with a smile on his face—he said aloud, "Give me a Sturdy staff, Twin daggers, and a long sword."

The box churned with light as it started to revolve around itself. Soon, Its speed increased tremendously as it started to slowly turn into a glowing orb of light.

A blinding flash erupted from the orb, splitting it into three glowing silhouettes. Moments later, the light faded, revealing three weapons clattering onto the floor before him.

A sharp longsword whose edge shimmered in a slight glow.

A pair of twin daggers, which weren't anything extravagant yet, looked sturdy enough to be a good weapon.

And at last, a sturdy staff made of nothing but wood.

Kai's lips curled into a smile as he picked his weapons up.

Even though he was touching such weapons for the first time in his real life, he had already slain countless with the help of the same—although, in-game.

He had techniques that he crafted himself, what he lacked was experience. He lacked the experience of handling such weapons in real life.

And thus, he began to train with his weapons one after another.

Time slipped through his fingers like sand.

In an unknown realm, with an uncertain future, Kai trained with all his might with just one thing in his mind.

He had to survive at all costs... Because what awaited him wasn't a tutorial—it was a battlefield.
