Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Live Well

The next day, in the living room, Lin Qingqing sat cross - legged on the floor, looking at a medical record in her hand with mixed feelings: Lin Qingqing, female, 28 years old, diagnosed with advanced lymphoma.

This was her previous medical record. She had been taking medicine for three years and undergoing chemotherapy for two years because of this.

Looking at the large pile of anti - cancer drugs in the corner, Lin Qingqing couldn't help but feel a bit wistful.

Ever since she woke up that morning, she had felt different from before. In the past two days, she had clearly felt the changes in her body.

The previous pain and weakness had never returned since yesterday. Even after killing the zombie next door and moving so many things, she didn't feel tired. It was as if she had been given a new body, not strong, but very healthy.

Thinking about the zombies outside, Lin Qingqing made a bold speculation. Could this be another stage of human evolution? Those who failed turned into zombies, while those who succeeded, like her, had an excellent physique.

She didn't know what changes others might have, but considering that her weak body had become healthy, perhaps other normal people might become even stronger.

Associating this with the previous speculations about superpowers on the Internet, she began to have doubts about her performance in killing the zombie yesterday.

Lin Qingqing had always known that she wasn't very good at sports. Although she was calmer and more rational than others, it shouldn't have allowed her to quickly adjust her state the moment the zombie attacked and find the zombie's weakness to eliminate it in the shortest possible time.

Remembering that mysterious state at that time, every time she thought about it, she was fascinated.

"Could my superpower be the ability to calm myself down quickly and have an extremely strong combat consciousness?"

"This is too hard to figure out!"

She had never experienced such a situation before, but she had an intuition that this state was unusual and might be related to the so - called superpowers.

While doing physical exercises, Lin Qingqing was pondering those subtle differences in her mind. The space at home was limited, so for the time being, she could only do some strength - and endurance - enhancing training. She didn't know if it was a boon brought by the doomsday, but actions that were impossible to complete in the past could now be done easily.

Since she got the supplies from the neighbor's house, Lin Qingqing no longer had to stint on food and clothing. She was originally thin and kept exercising every day, so she was in urgent need of a large amount of nutrition.

"After all this, perhaps my body can really get rid of the disease."

Lin Qingqing prayed sincerely.

...

Doing basic physical training and learning all kinds of survival knowledge, such plain days lasted for more than ten days.

In a blink of an eye, half a month had passed since the doomsday arrived. Lin Qingqing's body was getting stronger at a visible rate, and her weight had increased from 88 pounds to 105 pounds.

Although she still looked thin, her physical condition had improved a lot, and her strength was on a par with that of an ordinary adult man before the doomsday.

It was not until today that Lin Qingqing was truly certain that she had completely broken free from the entanglement of the disease and became a healthy person.

She pinched her fingers excitedly. Although she was a bit regretful that she hadn't awakened any special abilities, she was quite satisfied that her body had become better.

During this period, Lin Qingqing stayed at home every day and didn't go anywhere. The community was also very peaceful. The network was interrupted on the fifth day of the doomsday, and since then, she had lost all news from the outside world.

As time went by, the government's promised rescue seemed to be nowhere in sight. Gradually, people lost their patience and began to stir restlessly.

Two weeks after the doomsday, the surviving residents in the community couldn't help but start going out of their homes one after another, trying to get in touch with the post - doomsday world.

Lin Qingqing saw a young man going downstairs with a kitchen knife to challenge a zombie. The two tussled for quite a while. In the end, the zombie lost its head, but the young man broke his arm.

She watched the whole process from upstairs. Although the young man was fast enough, his strength wasn't great, and the kitchen knife in his hand was too short, which forced him to choose a close - range fight.

However, although the zombies moved slowly, their bodies were very tough. If the weapon wasn't suitable or the angle wasn't right, it would be very difficult to kill them with one strike.

Apart from those who went to challenge the zombies, some survivors who lacked food began to have ideas about their neighbors' homes.

They went from door to door, picking locks to search for supplies. If they found an empty house, they ransacked it. If they happened to encounter someone at home, they would threaten and extort some supplies.

Fortunately, no one had deliberately killed anyone for the time being. Perhaps this was just the beginning, and all kinds of conflicts and crises were lurking beneath the surface, not having erupted yet.

Hearing the occasional commotion in the community, Lin Qingqing couldn't help but feel anxious. As a single woman, if someone with malicious intentions came to her door, what awaited her definitely wouldn't be a good outcome.

From then on, she became even more cautious. She tried not to make too much noise at home, packed and hid the supplies, and made the rice and flour into food that could be stored for a long time and was easy to carry.

She no longer turned on the lights at night, only wore simple and convenient clothes, and kept her weapon by her side at all times.

For now, she had nowhere to go. With sufficient supplies, staying put and lying low was the most correct choice.

Another five days passed like this. It was already the twentieth day after the doomsday, and still no news came from the outside. Some people in the community had already tried to escape from here, but Lin Qingqing suppressed her restless heart and continued to stay at home. She still had enough food for fifteen days, so there was no rush.

...

Today was "Great Cold". When she got up in the morning, heavy snow was falling outside.

Just after finishing her training, Lin Qingqing held a cup of hot water and leaned against the window, gazing absently at the snow outside.

Such beautiful snow was a rare sight in the southern winter. In normal times, people would probably have rushed out to take pictures, roll around in the snow, and post on Moments. Unfortunately, now they could only watch it and satisfy their eyes this way.

"Sigh~"

Coming back to her senses, Lin Qingqing subconsciously picked up the cup, wanting to take a sip of water, but found that the water in the cup had somehow cooled down completely, and a thin layer of ice flowers had formed on the water surface.

"Hmm? Is it really this cold today?"

Not only the water cup in her hand, but also a layer of frost flowers had condensed on the window glass she had just leaned against.

Since the start of the doomsday, she hadn't felt any obvious temperature change. There was no heating in the house, and she was only wearing a thick tracksuit.

People who had spent winters in the south knew that in the southern winter, it was often colder indoors than outdoors.

Lin Qingqing hadn't paid attention to these details before. She had always thought that it was because her body had gotten better and she did enough exercise every day, so she wasn't afraid of the cold.

But now she wasn't so sure. Leaving aside other things, the hot water in her hand was freshly boiled just now. She had only held it for no more than two minutes, and in the blink of an eye, it was about to freeze? This wasn't scientific!

And why was there frost only on the half of the glass she had leaned against?

Lin Qingqing couldn't figure it out. The only thing she was sure of was that she hadn't done anything just now.

"Can I even bring the snow into my house just by looking at the snow scene?"This was just too ridiculous!

Although she was rather confused, Lin Qingqing became very interested in this matter. She wanted to figure out why this was happening.

Over the next two days, under her careful observation, she discovered several more unbelievable things. Firstly, she, who often cooked, started to repel flames. As soon as she got close to an open fire, she felt uncomfortable.

Secondly, in the past two days, she had been having dreams every night about walking in a world of ice and snow.

Another thing was that she wasn't sure if it was because she had adapted to the doomsday life, but she found that her gaze towards zombies was becoming increasingly indifferent. Even when she occasionally witnessed tragic scenes elsewhere, she didn't feel any emotional stirrings in her heart.

These changes were all very strange. Lin Qingqing realized that perhaps it was herself who had been getting strange all along, rather than the surrounding environment.

However, these were just her observations. She simply couldn't make sense of them, nor could she prove anything.
