Jay shifted his gaze to his left wrist. The band strapped around it pulsed, flickering red like a warning beacon. Suddenly, a garbled, glitching voice broke the silence, its echoes warping and stretching in the eerie stillness.
The voice called out, "Jay... Jay... Jay. Are you alright?"
He blinked, his heart pounding. "I'm... fine. Who are you?"
The voice hesitated, then responded, tinged with something almost like disbelief. "You don't... remember me?"
Jay's brow furrowed, confusion creeping over him. "Remember you? What the hell are you talking about? Where are you speaking from? And where is the rest of the crew? What happened here?" His voice rose, frustration and panic clawing their way up.
He looked around, taking in the twisted, barren landscape. It was a wasteland—scarred with rubble, twisted metal, and shadows of what looked like shattered buildings. Everything was drenched in an eerie, unnatural silence, like the aftermath of some apocalyptic nightmare.
The voice softened. "Okay, Jay, calm down."
Jay's breath quickened as he turned in place, anxiety gripping him tighter. "What's... what's going on? Where am I?" He could feel the icy claws of fear crawling up his spine.
"Jay, you're okay. Listen to me." The voice sounded gentle, almost familiar. "It seems you're suffering from amnesia. Please, tell me anything you remember. I promise—you can trust me. I'm here to help."
"Trust you?" Jay snapped, his voice cracking with anger. "You're just a voice—a ghost in my head! Where the hell are you?!" He clutched his head as a sharp, pulsing pain stabbed through his skull. "Argh! What... what is this headache?"
"I'm not a ghost," the voice replied, urgent but wavering with static. "I'm your friend, Jay. I'm here to help, but I need you to focus. Just listen to me... I—" The voice distorted, breaking into glitchy fragments. "You... ne... to... find... m—"
Jay strained to hear, his face twisted in concentration. "Find you? Where? Who are you?"
"...neeeed... to... find... me," the voice sputtered, crackling into silence.
Jay looked down at the band on his wrist. The flashing red faded into a steady, haunting blue. Then, with a sudden flash, words appeared in his vision, like a digital display overlaying his sight.
