Chapter 3 - Regret— Or Not.

ISABELLE CEDRIC.

My heart ached, at what Astrid said, as I looked at the young woman, who was struggling to form words out of quilt, I wasn't upset because she doesn't think of us as her family, but rather, I was upset that she was thinking of getting revenge.

I looked her in the eye, "look at me young lady, i don't know what you're thinking, but as a woman you should know your limits. The path of revenge isn't something a soft and kind hearted person can handle."

I stepped closer to Astrid, took her hands into mine as I looked her in the eye and said with a gentle tone. "If you accept that proposal from the Woodwoks family, you can live a happy life and be— Happy with a loving hus—" my words came to an abrupt stop as Astrid pulled her hands away from mine.

I watched, as she struggled to look me in the eye. "Answer me Ast, you think you can take your revenge on the mysterious man who killed a person as strong as your dad?! And you're searching for someone who you don't even know if he's still alive or dead."

I took a step back as Astrid glared at me..

"My brother is still alive, and I am SURE of it."she said with a cold tone that sent shivers down my spine.

My eyes widened at her sudden outburst, i shook my head as i started speaking again. "Ast listen to me very clearly, the path you want to take, is a treacherous one, the comapions you travel with years might betray you some day, just for some measly money, And you might not even find what you wanted to know, and even if you find it, you can't be certain that, what you found is going to be good or what you wanted to know.

Even after hearing all this and you still want to take that path," I looked her dead in the eye, and said with a stern and cold voice, which betrayed my inner feelings, "you are dead to me. And do not ever come back to this house again."

ASTRID SHADOWBANE.

I watched. as my aunt turned her back to me, and started walking away, a knot formed in my throat as i struggled to find the words, but if i don't tell her now, i'll never be able to tell her. "Aunty wait— I— I just... I just wanted to say that i'm going to leave shegan in 2 days."

I bowed my head at 90⁰ angle, my long braid brushing against the wooden floor as i did. "I'm grateful for everything you did for me every since i was kid aunty— " tears started falling onto the wooden floor as I remained in that position and kept speaking through sobs.

"And I want another favour from you Aunty, when I leave shegan in two days, please come visit me at the entrance gate, and say one final goodbye— I will wait for you."

My steps dragged, as i left the house, defeated. The walk to my cabin was a blur, not thinking about anything or— anyone for that matter, the next second, I was at my cabin, opned the door and closed it behind, as I made my way to the bed. I lie there, staring at the wooden ceiling. Recounting, what I could have said, that didn't result in— This. Closing my eyes as i hopped. "Just... a normal...dream...for once!"

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

Opening my eyes, I wondered what kind of idiot would knock this much, sitting up I shouted from my bed. "Wait I'm coming."

As I made my way to the entrace, and opened the door, and saw a tall man with a muscular build, his shadow loomed over me making me look small infront of him. "Were you trying to break my door albert?" I said my tone slightly irritated from waking up so early.

The man named albert, with a gravelly tone said. "I was thinking of breaking it down, if you didn't open the door after my 6 knocks."

I gasped at the thought of albert breaking into my cabin at this early, while i'm still asleep. "Please don't do that albert, and uhh why are you here exactly?" I enquired him questioningly.

Albert who looking at me intently said."Kid, don't tell me your forgot the order you placed 3 days ago."

As I remembered everything related to the order, I looked up at him, and said. "Right, i remember now, so uhh is everything prepared?" I asked.

"Yeah everything is prepared and I even bought them with me." He said, as he pointed towards a huge bag, next to his feet. "Ahem, so uhhh is he in there?" He said with a cheeky smile on his face.

Brow raised "Uhh who's where?" I asked questioningly, didn't know what he was asking.

"Y'know, Gordon." Albert replied.

"Why would Gordon be in my cabi— oh god...don't tell me?" Why eyes widened as my worst nightmare came true.

"What's wrong did? don't worry I won't tell anyone." Albert said, as he nudged my shoulders with his playfully.

"What? No he is not in my cabin, why would he be in my cabin." I snapped and took a step back from his nudging, and took a long breath and started explaining. "Listen I don't know where you heard it, but I want you to stop talking about it any where else. Is that CLEAR?" I said angrily, as a result albert stepped back in terror as i glared at him.

"woah there woman calm down. I didn't know it was like 'This.' " He said, Emphasising the word this referring to the incident that happened.

"How long has this rumour started spreading?" I enquired, as i waited for hi answer.

"Since last night... I think." He said as he started avoiding my gaze.

"I knew something like this would happen, but not this fast. damn it." I muttered to myself. "Just wait here albert, i'll go get the money for the order." I got back with 50 bronze coins and handed them over to albert, and the next second he bolted away from my cabin in a hurry I picked up the bag he bought and took it inside and closed the door As i moved to my bed.

I sat down on the floor, resting my back against the bed, as I leaned my head back into the soft mattress. My brain started thinking of ways to resolve this situation, but nothing came to mind, I took a deep breath, "I'll just have to wait until tomorrow comes and tell him, that i'm not interested in him. I just hope he doesn't hold a grudge against me." I thought to myself.

"I need to prepare for my departure." I tood up reluctantly, stepping on my own braid as i did. Removed the braid and tied it into a ponytail, and tossed it over my back. "Ugh stupid hair." I changed into some normal clothes, that would let me move around as I wanted.

I wore a black leather pant, that fit comfortably around my waist, as the smooth insides of the pant snuggled against my legs, and a white shirt, a bit oversized, it rippled against my body from the wind, and finally, and to gaurd against the cold, a thick coat made from the pelt of a bloodwolf, ferocious beasts that roam these lands during winters.

As I wandered through the market, looking for the items i needed, I noticed that people were staring at me, but i didn't pay them any attention as I checked shop after shop.

Finally the moment i've been waiting for, buying my first sword. As i entered the black smith's shop, I was surprised to see my uncle William inside the smith's— waiting?

"Uncle Will what are you doing here? shouldn't you be at the gate for gaurd duty?" I spoke with a surprised tone.

My uncle laughed slightly as looked at me. "I knew you would come to buy a sword, and as for your question, well let's just say that nobody would ever make the decision of leaving the village without a weapon." He said with his rough voice.

As he strolled through the weapons displayed on the weapon rack, picking up the weapons he found intresting and putting them after checking the weight, after awhile of testing and checking the swords, I thought he was going to pick a sword for me.

Then I heard a voice coming from the door behind the counter, and as the door opened a short man, with a full beard covering half his face, and he had an apron around his body which looked like it was made from iron but it had the same properties as any cloth. The short man spoke as he wiped the sweat away from his forehead and he hand a— box in his hand.

"Took you long enough to come visit me your brat." he said as he pointed a finger at my uncle.

"Brat... seriously?" I thought to myself as I wondered how old this black Smith actually is to call my uncle a 'Brat'. And he looked at me, "Is this the brat you kept yapping about?"

My uncle looked the oldman smith. "Yeah, that's my daughter." He said with usual rough tone, but there was a certain warmth to his tone.

"He just called me his...daughter?" i giggled like a child internally, as I kept repeating these words. My thoughts were interrupted by the oldman.

"Listen at me little lady, you're quite beautiful so just marry rich guy and enjoy life, people would kill each other for a beauty like yourself, so liste—" I cut the oldsmiths speach as I raised my hand to stop the old man from talking farther.

"I'm sorry sir, but i can't do that, i've already made up my mind, and I will stick with it." I said slightly irritated.

The old man shool his head in denial. " Heh I swear you're just like your mother Leona. That said the same thing when she came buy a weapon."

My eyes widened when I heard my mothers name, lowering my head so that they won't see the tears forming in my eyes, I held myself from crying, as i lifted my head to see the old smith. "You know my mother?" I asked curiously.

The old smith looked me in the eye, as he said. "well it's all in the past now, and the past doesn't matter when we have a future to live for, I hope you remember this little lady. And make sure to come by once in a while."

I nodded my head, as I listened to the old smiths words, "I will come back no matter what." I said confidently, betraying the deep frightening emotions I had.
