Chapter 1 - A Morning Like Any Other

"Onii-chan! Its morning! Its time to get up."

My little sisters voice rang out through the second floor of my house. The sun had already risen.. Looking out the window, one could tell the weather will be great.

"Haaah"

I groaned rolled over on the bed. My little sister ran over to wake up.

She jumped up onto my bed and landed squarely on my stomach. The full weight of her body pressed down against me.

"Argh!! Aren't you too old to do this? you're so heavy."

I groan in pain and protest to her.

"Are you telling me I'm fat."

She pouts her mouth cutely.

I chuckled. "No, just saying you've grown."

"Then hurry up! You'll be late for school!"

I sighed and sat up. "Alright, alright…"

Downstairs, the familiar scent of breakfast greeted me. My mother stood at the stove, flipping eggs, while my father sat at the table, reading the newspaper.

"Good morning," I greeted them.

"Morning. Did you play games and sleep late last night?"

My mother asks while preparing the breakfast.

"Nah, I just feel a bit tired because of club activities."

"You are still young; you need to take good care of your body."

My father reminded me about my health.

"That's true. You look like a crap onii-chan."

My sister butt in.

"Who look like a crap?"

I pinched my little sister cheek playfully..

"Argh, I'm sowwy."

The scene of happy family looks unbelievably beautiful.

Laughter filled the room. A perfect morning. A perfect family.

Then—

A blinding light.

My vision faded.

And just like that, it was gone.

I woke up, gasping for air. My face was wet—tears.

Just a dream…

The warm, happy life I longed for… it wasn't real.

I wiped my face and sighed. The morning sun peeked through my small apartment window.

I, Kazama Yuuya (1st grade in high school) immediately getting prepared to go to school.

I had always been living alone since I was 9 years old. after my parents divorced, my father take care of me for a few weeks until he suddenly disappeared without any words.

(Ring, Ring…)

My phone rang, it was my mother who call. It was two years ago when my mother starts contacts me. She always wants me to live with her again, but I always refuse. I knows that my mother has been working hard for my sister's sake, so I doesn't want to add more burden to her.

"Hello mother."

"Hello Yuu, how are you? Are you eating properly? Do you still have money to use?"

She always been worried about me.

"I'm doing fine. I also eating properly, and I still have money to use, you don't have to send any money."

"Yuu, if you have any worries or problem just tell me. I will help you, I'm your mother after all."

At that time, I just want to say how it been lonely living alone. About the problems I had at school. How I needs to work hard and can't spend time with my friend, but I decide to held back.

"I'm fine mother, please don't worry. I need to end the call; I need to go to school."

I ended the call and start moving to school.

When I open the door someone's voice suddenly greeted me. He is waiting for me by the roadside.

"Yo, how's your morning?"

This guy is Kurayami Ken. He is my only friend. I got to know him during my third year of middle school. Despite the bad rumours that spread about me in school, he still decides to befriend me. Since then, we became close friend, and we usually walk together to go to school.

"Morning, same as usual, I guess."

"Really? I heard the news; Kaori asked you to go on a date this weekend's, right?"

Ken asked with a curious look.

"She just asked me to hang out with her group. There's no way she'd want to date someone like me." I replied blandly.

Ken laughed. "Yeah, that makes sense. But hey, let's take another route today. I have an errand to run."

Ken asks me with a smile. But somehow that smile gives me a fright.

"is that so? Well, let's go then, I don't want to be late."

Since it is request from Ken and it still early, I just decided to go along with it.

Ken had never led me astray before. So, I followed.

We walked through quiet streets, taking a detour away from the usual path. I noticed Ken's hands were clenched into fists. His posture was tense, like he was struggling with something.

Before I could ask what was wrong, we turned a corner into a deserted alley.

Then—

A sudden, sharp pain bloomed in my stomach.

"Ke… Ken, why?"

I was stunned. I saw the blood flowing from the wound and make my school uniform red.

I can't collect the power to stand up and fall prostrate.

I try to stand again but I lost the strength on my legs to stand.

Feeling a pain aside, it just burns.

(What's up with this? It's too hot… can't it ease up a bit??)

"Why are you the only one who gets her attention, someone like you! After all the thing that I do to get her attention! Even though I told you how much I love kaori, why don't you just ignore her."

Ken shouted at me. His face looked terribly angry.

(What? just for that reason he decided to do this. argh it hurts.)

"Wow! you really did it."

A voice suddenly appeared. a voice that I know very well. it's the voice of Aoyama Keiji, a bastard who always bully me since middle school.

"You are indeed different from the others, ken. You even willing to go this far HAHAHA!"

I gritted my teeth. (Keiji… was behind this?)

From Keiji's word. Look like he's the one who planned all this.

"It feels very good to see trash like you grovel on the ground Yuuya. That's what you got for snitched on me to the teacher before."

Keiji stepped on my head, pressing it into the ground.

Ken stepped back, looking away.

"Ken you can go now. I will deal with the aftermath."

Keiji's father is a rich politician, with his parent help, he always escapes from the crime or problem that he has done.

"Bye Yuuya, glad to know you."

Ken says his farewell to me.

I tried to take a look at both of them, but my vision is too hazy. The burning sensation in my stomach is gone. Instead, a ferocious cold strikes me.

(Am I… dying?? Is this really the end? I really want to meet my mother and sister for the last time.)

(I don't want to die)

Those were my last thoughts before my consciousness are gone.
