During the bus ride, I was planning how to survive the war and live past this war. It's either I will become a war hero or my remains will be buried in trenches never to be found.
And I am not deserting the army because in my case, I got nowhere else to go. Besides 'Momma raise a whiner not a quitter even though she was skank,' I mused.
While contemplating how to approach the particular issue to survive, a blue screen appeared in front of me. I instinctively raised my finger to touch it while trying to understand the purpose of the holographic screen.
Then, I heard a mocking voice coming from the seat next to me: "I have listened to the rumors that war is getting so bad that they were enlisting mentally challenged individuals, I guess the rumors were true."
When I turned my head to confirm whose voice it was, what I saw dumbstruck me. There was a blond guy who was sitting right next to me with a towering muscular body, who mocked me.
'Did this blonde baboon of a guy insult me as a mentally challenged person? It's ironic, isn't it?' I just thought.
I never had this urge to bitch slap someone but this 2 brain-celled creature infront of me was an exception to that rule. But I know I am better than that because I prefer not to get my jaw rearranged.
I mean, look at this dude from my perspective, he is built like an optimal construction worker. But there is a way I can retaliate that is to mock him verbally, so that's what I did.
As a person whose whose former life is screwed beyond belief, well this one is neither much better, you develope a habbit to cope with it.
And my way of coping was DAD jokes, and I was an expert in them.
So I asked him lightly not to aggravate him: "Why did the blonde get so excited about finishing a jigsaw puzzle in six months?"
First, he stared at my face for a moment as he was thinking hard to et an answer, then he asked with a serious face: "Why?"
I replied with a shit-eating grin: "Because the box said it was for '2 to 4 years'." Then there was a silence between us because he scrutinized my face for a minute.
During this time my grin was faltering bit by bit because I was reconsidering to take back my words so I won't get my ass whooped.
Then suddenly he laughed, clutching the sides of his belly, he said to me: "We are going to go along just fine. Names Liam Finn. What about you?" He offered to shake his hand.
I replied while shaking his hand: "Jonathan James. Nice to meet you!" He replied with a smile: "Nice to meet you too!"
'Pheww' I relaxed a bit, so today is not the day of being beaten. I thought, 'I just made him mad by making a blonde dad joke.'
But then the people around this time were the people who would not only get offended by the joke, but also found it funny.
While I was watching the scenery after the light conversation with the blonde next to me. I paid attention to what's written on the system screen.

'So this is the little gift that shady old man was talking about when he sent me here.' I thought. Well, here goes nothing. 'I accept,' I said in my thought.

[Congratulations! Host has been assigned a character template: Chamber (Valorant).]
[Host, kindly accept the template.]
'Now that is interesting!' I thought. While I was busy earning money to support my brother, I just picked certain hobbies to get some semblance of a happy life.
My hobbies included: video games, comics, and fantasy movies. 'Chamber' was a character from one of the favourite games I have ever played, which is 'Valorant'.
Well, Chamber was an agent who was a radiant tech user who made use of a pair of custom firearms, nanotechnology, and personal teleportation equipment.
With the knowledge of firearm handling from the Chamber template, I will survive the ongoing war. But if I used the skills of summoning weapons or using teleportation, I would be kept in Area 51 and get dissected to understand the cause of my power.
I have to hide those skills and would only use them if I were in a dire situation. After thinking this through, I accepted the template. Then the system chimed in.

Then, with the jolt of electricity in my brain, the basic knowledge of how to handle the pistol-type weapon filled my brain like downloading some information from the internet into your laptop.
'So that's how it is. The future is going to be interesting!' I sighed satisfyingly while watching the scenery outside the bus window.
(POV: 3rd person)
But what he didn't know was that the future would indeed be interesting, but not for him.
