Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Dorian is stern, it had started off quite nicely in his opinion. He realised that Damian had already surpassed Lottie and was quite close to Argon's level of power.

But then it had all gone downhill, Argon had been knocked out early, and there was little hope after that. Damian still hadn't managed to put his recklessness aside, but he was still young. It would be trained out of him.

As he caught the charred body of Damian he gives him a healing potion, an expensive one. There weren't many, but it was crucial – Damian wouldn't survive much longer otherwise.

He decides now is not the time to hide his power, if Isabel was as smart as he thought she already knew about his teleportation abilities, and the rest already knew as they were trusted with it. They may even gain the opportunity to learn it at some point.

He uses the teleportation ability to teleport the unconscious forms of Damian away, then flashes over to Argon's body and teleports it away as well.

Then, he goes over to the girls, who aren't being attacked anymore by the Wyvern. It seems to not even be paying attention to them, staring at him warily.

The mission for killing the Wyvern would likely be given to him anyways, as the only other way it would be completed would be using a much larger part of Obsidians, fifteen or more. And that was avoided as much as possible.

So, he decided to bend the rules a little bit and do the mission before it was given. But something strange and inexplicable happens as he nears the beast.

He moves toward it, killing intent seeping out of him as he pulls an Artifact out of his spatial storage, an impossibly large and broad sword. It looked rusty, stained with red. But it was incredibly sturdy and sharp. He had killed many beasts with this, and it had missed the blood of more powerful beasts like this one.

The Wyvern's eyes widen, and its mouth opens. An eerie screech erupting from its mouth.

Dorian's eyes widen as he doubles over in pain, covering his ears instinctively. It doesn't help.

What the hell? How does it know this? It's barely a dragon!

This scream was not any old scream, it was a Dragon Call. Something incredibly feared and thought to be lost.

It was one of the most feared abilities during the Great War. Back when the Obsidian Syndicate had first been founded, it had been in the midst of the Great War. The war between humanity and dragons.

We had, obviously, won. It was at great cost, because the dragon's had an impeccable ability. When in trouble they could screech for help, and dragons nearby would head over as fast as they could. It had an incredible range and made it hard to kill a dragon as a fight with them was rarely against one, despite their being far, far less of them.

But what the ability truly terrifying, was the secondary effect of it. Any dragons that heard the call would be buffed, their magical power increasing by roughly 50%, and even the one making the call would be buffed. It was an incredible ability to have in a war, and after it – when dragons were killed to near extinction, the ability was thought to be lost, as in the first place it had been a rare ability.

And yet here was a Wyvern, with the ability of a dragon, using it.

Something strange was going on.

But Dorian didn't have time to think about that. Because a massive, snarling behemoth was shooting through the air at an incredible speed.

Shit.

The dragon had been hard to capture in the first place, and now it was buffed. And it was unlikely the Wyvern would not join in either, with the buffs it would be about the strength of the dragon when he had captured it.

The Wyvern attacks him first, its jaws snapping at him.

He hefts the sword between them, the flat end facing the Wyvern, erecting a makeshift shield.

The Wyvern clamps its jaws around the sword, and it quickly releases it, roaring in pain as the sword sank into the gums between its teeth.

Before he can even grin at the triumph, he's crashed into from behind, a massive weight barrelling into his back, he is knocked into his own sword, as he crashes against the Wyvern.

He looks at the dragon that had just flew into him, it was circling back around.

He refocuses on the Wyvern, he was currently holding himself against the side of the Wyvern, and it was shaking violently trying to throw him off.

He hefts his sword and jams it in between the gaps of the scales and uses it as a crowbar and starts prying scales of the Wyvern's body.

The Wyvern roars in pain, blood spurting from the wounds. To make it worse, Dorian grabs each freed scale and stabs it into the newly exposed flesh.

Before he can press his advantage, the dragon barrels into the both of them, and Dorian goes flying off, his hand still gripping his sword firmly.

He controls himself mid air and floats in the air. The Wyvern is still in pain, but it's not injured too heavily yet.

The dragon shakes its head, likely slightly disoriented from the impact.

Dorian decides to try and deal with the Wyvern first, the Dragon Call effect did have a short time period where it worked, so if he managed to avoid the dragon long enough it would revert to its previous power level, and it would be exhausted as well.

Having decided on a sort-of plan, he teleports to the side of the Wyvern and stabs his sword deep into the open wound. It roars in pain but reacts quickly, bending round and swiping at him, forcing him to pull away and dodge.
