Ettie's hand was cold. Just like the forest I was being dragged into. Cold seeped into my bones until it became a part of me. Everything was cold. So cold.
"….nearby?"
I came back to reality finding my little brother staring at me, annoyed, waiting for an answer. "Did you listen to anything I said?" he inquired.
I froze up, slowly shaking my head, ashamed to admit that I couldn't even properly listen to anyone. I didn't want Ettie to think of me as someone who cannot even listen to other people properly.
He sighed, exhausted, "Well, we have to find a place to spend the night so do you know of any inns nearby?"
I looked at the sky as he asked. The Sun was preparing for his slumber as orange and pink sang gently, like they were putting the Sun to sleep. My hand went towards my handbag, almost taking out my journal out of instinct but then I stopped as I saw red maniacally laughing in the sky as it devoured the pink and orange.
The blood that was spilled today.
And that day.
"Are you going to answer my question or are you just going to be a useless burden that I have to drag around?" Ettie's voice brought me back to the real world. The real Sun.
I turned to face my little brother again. Well not so little anymore. His deep voice and height reminded me of the cruel nature of time all over again.
"I think the village of Vaurte is close by," I answered, "It should take us around three hours by foot to reach."
His eyes widened and then he regained his composure, "Three hours," he muttered thinking that I couldn't hear him, "Well again, getting out of the Capital is our priority."
I silently agreed with him in my head.
Lest any soldier in the Capital find out where we are, let's just say that we were better off dying along with our parents.
