Chapter 1 - Rebirth in the Hidden Leaves

Death was quiet.Too quiet, for a man who had once lived by the hum of steel and the whisper of wind.

In the final moments of his former life, Rei Kazehaya felt nothing but the soft warmth of rain against his skin and the metallic scent of blood pooling around him. There was no fanfare. No fireworks. Just silence… and then darkness—No, not darkness.

Blindness.

As always.

He had never seen light, not once. His glowing green eyes had been a mystery to doctors, scientists, and mystics alike. They shone like emeralds, yet perceived nothing. A cruel irony.

But Rei never needed eyes to see.

He had lived as a swordsman in a world without chakra, honing his body and soul into a blade sharper than any metal. His legend ended when he faced a bullet faster than his sword, a sacrifice made to protect someone he once loved.

And then…

He opened his eyes.

Rei sat up in the middle of a sun-dappled forest. The wind smelled different here—fresher, wilder, and somehow more alive. His hand moved instinctively to his side, where a black katana rested in its sheath. The sword's hilt was wrapped in obsidian cloth, smooth and cold to the touch.

Its name came to him unbidden, as if whispered directly into his soul:

"Yamikaze – The Wind of Darkness."

"Great," he muttered, adjusting the blindfold wrapped securely over his eyes. "Not only am I blind in this life too, but now I've got a dramatic sword name. Very anime."

[System Activation: Welcome, User. You have been selected by the Ultimate Sensory Swordsmanship System – "The Strongest Blind Swordsman." Congrats on being tragically cool.]

Rei twitched.

"Oh hell no. You again?"

[I've never met you before. But I already hate your taste in headbands. Let's get to work, moody samurai boy.]

"Perfect," he sighed. "A sarcastic system with a personality. That's exactly what I needed to complement my existential dread."

[Quest Unlocked: 'Enter a Hidden Village without being arrested.']

[Difficulty: Easy. Reward: Map of the Shinobi World + 100 EXP.]

[Optional Objective: Flirt with a kunoichi on the way.]

Hidden Leaf Village – Two Days Later

"Sir, you do realize there's a blind man walking straight through the gates, carrying an unsheathed katana, right?" the Chūnin guard whispered to his partner.

Rei strode casually into Konohagakure, his black hair tied in a loose ponytail, blindfold in place, his blade tapping lightly against his hip with each step. Civilians stared. Ninja whispered.

And Rei smiled faintly.

He heard every breath, every rustle of clothing, every shifting heartbeat. The world was a canvas of sound and chakra—and to Rei, it was clearer than sight.

"Hey, you! State your name and business!" a voice barked. A tall shinobi approached, flanked by two ANBU.

Rei tilted his head. "Relax. I'm just here for the food. And maybe a nice hot bath. You wouldn't believe how rough reincarnation is on the back."

"...Are you mocking us?"

"Yes."

The moment tension exploded in the air, Rei's katana was already out—Yamikaze hummed through the air in a single graceful arc.

And stopped.

Half a millimeter from the ninja's neck.

Rei's blindfolded face didn't shift. "If I were hostile, you'd be missing something important. Like a head."

The guards froze.

[Mini-Boss Threat Averted. +100 EXP. Quest Complete. New Title Acquired: "Suspiciously Handsome Ronin."]

Later That Night – Ichiraku Ramen

"So you're saying you're blind. But you can dodge kunai without using your hands?"

"I could dodge them with my mouth if I tried," Rei said between slurps of miso ramen.

Across the counter, a girl with short dark blue hair and wide white eyes blinked rapidly.

Hinata Hyuuga had been on her way to train when she heard about "some rogue swordsman with glowing green eyes and a death wish." Naturally, she followed her curiosity—and here they were.

"You're… amazing," she said quietly.

Rei chuckled. "Most women say that after a few drinks. You're ahead of schedule."

She blushed furiously. "I-I wasn't—! I mean—"

"Relax, Princess. I'm just teasing."

[Hinata Hyuuga: Affection Level – 12/100.]

[Status: Curious. Mildly flustered. Heart rate elevated.]

[Optional Quest: Impress a Hyuuga. Reward: Unknown.]

Rei's grin faded just a little. Despite the banter, he could feel the sincerity in her chakra. Kindness. Gentle strength. He liked that.

Maybe this world wouldn't be so bad.

Three Days Later – Konoha Training Grounds

"Who wants to spar first?" Rei asked, stretching lazily in the middle of the dirt ring.

A crowd of Genin, Chūnin, and even a few Jōnin surrounded him.

One by one, they had come to challenge the strange blind swordsman whose blade had split a training dummy in half from twenty meters away.

A tall boy stepped forward, black hair and red eyes flaring with Sharingan.

Sasuke Uchiha.

"I'll go."

Murmurs broke out. "No way—Sasuke?" "Is he serious?" "The Uchiha's not going to hold back."

Rei cracked his neck and raised Yamikaze.

"Alright, princess. Let's dance."
