Chapter 3 - Sound the alarm

There was a town meeting held to figure out what we were going to do. We were all ordered to go there. As always all those that don't attend the meeting will be arrested. So we go there and things snowballed. Some wanted the mythical creatures to be a part of the town while some wanted them exterminated. A few were happy to be ignorant. In the end the meeting went in favor of these creatures. Annie had gone to the city and gotten me contact lenses. Now I can blend in. People were excited about the Luna Festival. I tried to say something but Megan asked me to shut up. She argued that if I can see the future then the Feds will take me away. Me proving to be a seer was enough of an excuse to take me. So we decided that we will try to stop the festival itself.

The festival was three days away and we had to figure out my abilities before that. We realized that the ability to move things was triggered when I am scared or angry. I asked mom if I could stay with Megan to study since finals were on the way. Mom and dad said yes. Charlie gave me angry looks as he went to take out the trash. He asked why he isn't allowed to go with his friends. Dad reminded him that he is trying to go out with his friends to play games for hours on end while I was going to my friend's apartment to study.

Megan and Annie were waiting for me at the door as mom dropped me off. Helen was kind enough to ask if I would be staying for a few days. I told her that I am only staying for the weekend to study after which I am going home. She wished me well and went to work. Mom asked me to stay indoors after six pm and she went to work as well. Megan's brother Toby was sitting by he couch playing a zombie apocalypse game. His gaming character was a soldier assigned to find survivors. He said the game had those who were immune to zombies as well. He is secretly looking for one. I wished him well as we locked the door.

We got inside and locked the door. I took off the lenses and sat on the floor. Annie said there was a circus that had arrived suddenly. People are looking forward to go there. There will be gymnastics and circus freaks. Megan said, "I saw the tents that they had pitched. It looked like a creepy place. I don't recommend it." I remembered that in my vision there was a few tents that were on fire. I carefully whispered, "My vision might not be about the Luna Festival. It was about the circus. The vampires are going to attack the people. And horse size wolves are going to gate crash. Both of them fight each other trying to rip each other apart. People are running for their lives. Dead bodies all over the place."

Megan countered saying, "It could be this circus because of the tents but we need to remember that the Luna Festival has refreshment stand and other booths that are designated by tents. So we can't rule out either." Annie suggested the we go to the area so I can sure. So we snuck out to see if the place looked the least but familiar. The tents were identical to the ones in my vision so we decided that we will not be going. Also we will find out a way to get the people out of there in one piece. We ended up agreeing on pulling the flood alarm to get everyone to safety.

We waited till sundown and snuck into the mayor's office. The building has no cameras so it made things a lot easier. The mayor had shown us where the the lever was in one his videos to ensure our safety. The alarm is behind the bookcase. We will have to move the case aside and pick the lock to pull the alarm. We wore gloves so no one can get our fingerprint. Annie is very good with lockpick so she got it in no time. We pulled opened the tiny box and pulled the tiny red lever down. And closed the box. We pushed the bookcase back to where it was and ran back downstairs. We managed to get to the other side of the street when we hear the alarm. It was a series of short sharp blasts of a horn. We snuck into the souvenir shop as I sensed trouble on the way. Sure enough as we got inside shop the FBI'S vehicle came into the street.

We stayed in back section till the streets were filled with people. Once the streets were crowded we snuck out and walked to Megan's car. I had nothing to worry about since our small town wasn't tech savvy like the city next to us. The only camera was in the bank and the ATM machine which is on the other side of town. We drove home and ordered pizza. The next day we saw on the news that the vampire and werewolf had a fight and there were a few casualties. Humans heard the siren and fled the scene. Those that stayed behind were injured. A few had died. The death toll could have been much more had it not been for the alarm. As grateful as the mayor was for the siren. The reasons behind the break in to the mayor's office remains unknown. We dove into our homework.

Monday evening I arrived home to see the Feds were waiting for me indoors. They asked me if I had anything to do with the break in the mayor's office. I was shocked to hear this saying that I was busy with finals so I knew nothing. Mom concured and the man made a face. The woman asked me, "Where were you this weekend?" I said, "I was at my friend's place studying for finals. There is an entire building of witnesses who will testify" Mom interrupted them saying that they have overstayed their welcome so they need to leave. Neither budged so dad called the police saying that we were harassed. The man in the suit got up and gave me a card. He explained, "This card has my number on it. Call me anytime." I didn't take the card so he dropped it on the table. I picked it up and ripped it to pieces and threw it in the fire. Both of them left disappointed. The woman made it clear, "We are not enemies and we don't need to be enemies. We just want things right side up"

I smiled, "Making false accusations is not how you ask people for help. I don't care how desperate you are what you doing right now isn't justified. Like I said. I am not working with you so leave me alone. Having someone like me doesn't mean your problems are over or you have a hand on the steering wheel. You don't get use me as an excuse for your incompetency or throw me under the bus. I am not your scapegoat so please listen to the words coming out of my mouth and leave me alone." The woman asked nicely, "Is there a way we can compromise?" I shook my head, "Not in a million years." Both gave me the look of death before they walked off saying that they will be back. They promised their next visit will guarantee my recruitment. I asked if they see the future. They said that they are ordinary humans. They had no abilities whatsoever. They can be optimistic like all the other humans. I promised them that they are wasting their time. They will never get me so they should spend their time on catching criminals. Neither said a word as they walked out of the house.

I helped mom with dinner as Charlie kept his eye on me. He waited till we set the table to ask me why I refuse the Feds request. I said, "I rather finish high school and go on a road trip. I want to know what skills I have. Maybe I am meant to be a waitress or a painter or a baristas or even a photographer but I won't know what I am supposed to be if I am dragged against my will to work with the Feds." Charlie countered, "Maybe your destiny was to be an agent so that you can use your ability to save the rest of us. We will never know what your future is because you said no." I grinned, "My answer will always be no even if there is a gun to my head." Charlie gave me an angry look before he sat to eat his meal.
