Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Symbol of Mammon (2)

All Drakar could do was silently stare at Madam Hestia while rage filled his mind. Applauses and cheers filled the grand hall, a mockery of Drakar's failures.

*HAHAHAHA what was it you called us again?*

*Bumbling fools!*

*BAHAHAHA yeah you took control of the situation real well*

Drakar quietly muttered to himself.

"Don't forgot we're the same person you morons!"

*Yeah and your the one who ruined everything.*

Kenco filled with shock slowly walked up to the council of nine to receive Madam Hestia's Blessing, a necklace which helps one refill their mana and heals their soul. The family heirloom given to a weakling like him. Fed up with this lunacy Drakar screamed out to his elders

"Why would you possibly think Kenco can represent us! I'm stronger than him how can you possibly pick him."

Ms. Dominique raised one of her eyebrows and spoke up

"You're right Kenco would never win one on one against you, but here's the thing how many followers do you have?"

"..."

Mr. Ankeh spoke up after her.

"You have no connections maybe if you actually partook in your father's business instead of lazing around all day you might've garnered some allies."

Finally Madam Hestia stoop up and stared Drakar directly in his eyes.

"You may be the strongest candidate but your no one-man-army. Worst of all your mentally unstable you're not fit to be a king and you never will be."

Outraged Drakar stormed out of the grand hall and Madam Hestia's mansion. Right behind him he heard some kicking and stumbling. Right before he turned around to see who was making the ruckus Davis yelled out.

"Drakar come on man, come on to my house and have a drink with me. I got some stuff to help mellow you out. Trust me the stress will just, it'll go like poof, gone."

*Go on we haven't had any fun in days.*

*The big guy is waking up soon.*

*He'll just think he got wasted and can't remember anything.*

With a heavy sigh Drakar replied to Davis.

"Alright I'll bite."

"Atta boy follow me."

Soon after Davis flexed his wings then shot up into the air.

-----

Taking a seat on the opposite side of the bar as Davis, Drakar slouched down and held his head.

"What the hell man. I've slaved away killing every rift beast that I could find to expand my soul"

The denser and larger ones soul the stronger they become. The power and ways one can use their technique increases, their mana pools largen, and their body becomes stronger as well.

There are two direct ways to expand ones soul in Ertetria. The first and easiest way is to kill any living thing, after a soul is expelled from their mortal shackles part of it laches onto the killer. The stronger the being killed the more power you gain from slaying it. The second way is to connect ones soul to another. This way is much more complicated, but simply the more you cherish another person and the more they cherish you the more likely you are to connect. The two souls intertwine and both become larger afterwards.

The name rift monster or rift beast isn't technically correct since these are the beasts of Purgatory. They are called rift beasts since small rifts occur in the air of Purgatory where monsters may escape to Limbo, Earth, or Elysia. Most rifts occur in the lower circles like circle 1 or 2, since those two are the largest. The highest level seen was a rift from the 6th circle, although it is guessed that rifts can even occur in the 7th and 8th circle.

Davis poured some brown drink into a glass cup engraved with golden markings. He then slid it in front of Drakar and said with a sigh.

"Don't worry man non of this is ever permanent, I'm sure you could make Madam Hestia change her mind."

Drakar grabbed the drink and was only going to take small sips, but his hand suddenly shot up forcing him to drink it all in one quick flash.

*Come on we got to make this seem realistic*

With a sigh Drakar looked at Davis and exclaimed.

"How many more till I forget today."

"Are you sure thats a great idea boy."

*Act it out don't fuck up again*

*You could just give me control I'm a much better drunk*

"Oh please! I'm 50 years old I'm about to be a fully grown young adult just make me something good."

Davis simply rolled his eyes and turned his back to Drakar reaching up to the top shelf. Drakar let go of his head and let his head slam down into the bar.

"I hate Kenco he's such a suck up, blah blah blah good relations with outside families. All he does is kiss ass a subpar swordsman and a subpar mage. All that meathead knows how to do is swing his sword. I mean his technique has so much potential and he decides to just swing his sword with it."

"Yeah kid, its unfortunate. I know what you really should do. That new guy in town he's trying to start his own clan. His names uhhhh Beelzebub. I heard he's crazy strong and also the sin of gluttony. I bet ya you could find a way to make an alliance with him, there's no way Madam Hestia wouldn't change you to our candidate. "

In Limbo all of profane creatures are born with a sin. The sin you are born with is based off the sin of the sin of your parents. The main reason why demons are seen as the most noble of profane creatures are because they are born with 2 sins, one from each parent, this also makes demons the strongest. Drakar is demon of pride and greed, just like most of his other family members since the Mammon family's main trait was greed.

There are seven sins each of grant their host an ability. Although even if someone is born with a sin doesn't mean they instantly gain their abilities. Profane entities must train to awaken their sin.

Pride gives demons an ability to expand and grow their wings infinitely around once an hour. As the wings grow mana gathers around it which can be used to fuel different powers of ones technique.

Lust allows the user to siphon another demons mana. This can be an aura or siphoned every single time they are touched. This all depends on the mastery of the sin.

Gluttony gives the user the ability to gain powers from consuming other creatures profane or not. This however is the only power which can cause insanity from over eating.

Sloth grants the user to parry techniques. If this ability is timed perfectly the opponents technique will explode into mana leaving the sloth unharmed.

Greed is somewhat complicated since it relates to luck. Simply the user of greed must want something and the longer they do the more likely they are to obtain such a thing. Their mastery over the sin and soul size determine how much luck they get over time.

Wrath just allows the user to get stronger the longer their fight goes on and the more they kill.

Envy allows the user to see into another person's mana and soul.

After Davis finished shaking up his concoction he turned around and poured it into the same glass cup he first offered Drakar.

"This will really mess you up good luck kid."
